The Marco Method for building a lather. This REALLY works! It makes heaps and heaps of lather!
Ordinarily, I wouldn't need this much lather. However, I'd imagine if you needed to shave off some substantial beard growth, and required a lot of lather, this method would come to the rescue!

@@MarkSzorady Yes, I am THE Marco. The Italian Master Barbers' method (improperly known as my method) is truly effective, reliable and consistent. Hi, Paul.:) Very glad to hear that the video helped.:) I'd like to take credit for the method, but I'm just the messenger.:) I enjoy using a good boar brush. A viewer suggested the Omega boar and I found it to be VERY good.:) I have this one amzn.to/3hxEAra (affiliate link) also, you may want to give a synthetic brush a try, especially if you're face lathering. Synthetics are soft, have good backbone and laather up a storm!:) A few I can recommend (again, affiliate links but easier for me to post quickly due to having them on file): Atomic Rocket 26mm Synthetic Shaving Brush - Suave Knot: bit.ly/2VYwK10 The Peregrino - 24mm Roswell (grey) Hybrid Synth Brush - Retro Shave Tech!: bit.ly/2yVV8r4 The Solar Flare - 24mm Nexus Hybrid Synth Brush - Retro Shave Tech!: bit.ly/35Utl6A Phoenix Shaving Brushes: bit.ly/2WMewik VIKINGS BLADE Luxury Shaving Brush, Heavy Weight Gunmetal Steel Base + Polished Faux Tortoise Acrylic (Fire Mare): amzn.to/30M5XHV Also, give a few other shaving soaps a go.:) Try Tabac (Tallow-based), Stirling (tallow-based), Phoenixshaving.com (Vegan), etc. Enjoy, and again very happy to hear the video was helpful!:)

Mark Szorady wow thanks Mark for all the links👍🏻👍🏻 I will Def grab a couple more brushes, I’m using a omega 48 pro at the moment, and it’s breaking in nicely, thanks to guys like yourself, who offer great tips, I have a short beard year round so it’s head for me and neck, seen some great videos of synthetic brush’s, I’ve also seen a few second hand badgers on eBay at reasonable prices, what do you think of that? Will Def try s a few more soaps as well.. thanks again mark, Also could you recommend a adjustable razor for a slightly more aggressive shave once I have more experience. I’m using a Edwin Jagger De89l barley at the moment with Astra blades.. it’s beautiful...

@@lorraineandrews567 My pleasure:) Regarding used badger brushes, the only used brushes I've purchased are vintage Everready, etc. These were purchased more for the handle and installing a new knot, not really for using the original knot. Even though I've yet to re-knot these brushes, I've washed them thoroughly...but have not used them. Well, maybe once? Can't remember. I shy away from used brushes and used soaps. Used and vintage razors are completely different because with Barbacide, alcohol and anti-bacterial soaps, I can assure myself of a thorough cleaning. I hesitate to say whether a used soap or used brush can be cleaned at the same level. I simply do not know. You can get a very good NEW synthetic brush at a moderate price and it should give you wonderful performance. Manufacturers, because synthetic brushes are getting to be so good (and due to animal cruelty issues and other factors), are actually getting out of the badger brush business. This is all just IMHO.:) Adjustable razors? Well, you are in luck! Many form which to Choose! Vikings Blade, Merkur, Parker.:) I'd be happy to send you more info when you get close to making a purchase.:)

I've always had better luck using a dryer brush so the soap on the brush is like a paste. Then add small amounts of water in a controlled fashion. I've tried this method and the lather was airy and thin.

Hi Mark. A real good demo for sure. If you were going to shave about 10 guys it would be great but I can`t help wondering if the Marco Method ends up wasting a lot of soap? Just an observation. Thanks.
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Brian. I agree. However, in some instances, say removing a lot of beard growth, it may be helpful. Still, I find it useful to know if for only understanding how to dial it down. As far as wasting soap, I haven't made much of a dent in the Tabac at all. If it's a good quality hard soap, I really don't think too much waste will result. I could be wrong. A softer soap, yes, there might be more waste. But a hard soap, I tend to think not. Again, long term use will really tell the tale.

I’ve used your technique, and I must say it’s AMAZING! My question: does this method use or waste more product? I shared this with a wet-shave buddy of mine. He likes it, but is concerned about using too much product.
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 5 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear it worked for you.:) I wish I could take credit for it, but it's not my technique.:) I'm just passing it along.:) I'd imagine that soap usage is going to go up. But you're building a REALLY rich creamy lather in a bowl. Usually, with Tabac or similar soap, I just swirl several times and then do a face lather. But for those times when I want a little more creaminess, and a lather I can paint on, from a shaving bowl, I'll use the Marco method. The Marco method, I've found, also works great with really, really hard soaps. I've got a few of those and it takes some time to load the brush. The Marco method helps.:)

I prefer pulling my brush out of the soak and squeezing water out of it, then a couple of shakes to make sure it’s only just damp. Then I load it like I hate it from a dry tub. Paint that paste on cheeks, chin & jowls. Then when I have a good soap paste on my face I start adding water by dipping the tips of my brush in water, painting that water over the soap paste, then working it. Go back to the water, then back to the face. Lather will overflow, which I plop into my warm scuttle while I keep building what’s on my face. Works with everything from problem soaps like MWF to easy lathering croaps. The Marco Method is nice but the resulting lather is no slicker, creamier or more plentiful than face paste lathering. And it takes too long. By the time Marco gets his brush off the puck into the bowl to build his lather I’m picking up my razor.

Mark Szorady Thx for the upvote. I’m definitely not the originator of face paste. I see quite a few KZbinrs employ it, from Paul H to Chris Bailey and Kevy Parr. I used to leave more water in the brush but it just makes a mess and washes your soap down the drain. Major downside to face paste is it’s hard on brushes. If you have expensive badger knots from Simpson’s or Declaration maybe bowl lather with those. I face lather with any knot under $40 and haven’t broken one down yet, but it’s a known issue.

when building up the lather do you press down any after loading ad goig to the lathering phase? i tried this today and didnt get nearly as much as you did. i was using proraso white. do you find this method makes you go through soap faster?
@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 3 жыл бұрын
No, I'm not pressing down. I'm just swirling... I'm just engaging the brush tips. EDIT -- Wait. you mean when I'm building the lather in the bowl. Again, I'm just swirling in the bowl. I'm not pressing down, I'm just letting the brush do the work from swirling it in the bowl. You may want to try a ribbed bowl to give things a bit more resistance. This helps in whipping up a lather.

@MarkSzorady
@MarkSzorady 5 жыл бұрын
@@stogiedude I've only used it with soaps.:) It works especially good with hard soaps. Creams are quite easy to build a lather.:) Not much else is needed. Just a dollop of cream, a bit of water, a wet brush, and go.:) Hard soaps sometimes require a bit more work to get them to respond. I guess this is why the Marco method came about.:)
