A gradual process for the mares to accept the teens, I guess. Eefje, as the lowest in status of the mares, seemed most insecure, and looked determined to tell the youngsters not to try to get ahead of her. She pinned her ears first of all the mares, and kept doing it. Sjirkje was very sweet to them, but let it be known that the young horses must not get their heads higher than hers! Fascinating. Uniek barely took notice, lol. I guess the Queen is too far above them to bother with them much.

I loved how Hester walked down the wire getting in between the fillies and Sjirkje. No submission until the end of the video and even then, half hearted. Eefje had to show how grown she is to the 'little girls', even though she's still a filly herself. I wondered how this would go and it went very nicely. Great reintroduction, Yvonne.

I was thinking something similar. It must be a great temperature in the sun. There may be nutrients and minerals that their bodies crave in that water. They get to drink all they want and they get to stretch out their necks comfortably, as they would in nature.

Sjirkje is such a cool horse! I’ve noticed in the last videos before she gave birth to her new foal, that she’s stopped by Mathilde’s stall to be near her. The others haven’t done that and have nothing to do with their weaned foal. Uniek is able to do that with Eefje because they are now together and it’s so nice to see them bonding together. Jildou was too far away for Sjirkje to have good interacting with her mother. Loved this video with all the herd together! ❤️❤️❤️

Just for curiosity have you ever touched an electric wire? I Tripped over a low one once when I had shorts on. Ouch! But you are so right, it is amazing how such a small wire works so well.

@@49kittypretty1 Hi there! I live in Michigan. Your right, I have seen thicker wires as well. Maybe the horses are smarter than our cows or pigs were. Plus the fact that most of the time their wires are combined with white material that makes it more visible. Hope you are experiencing the nicer weather like we are. It was 60 F today and sunny (which is NOT normal for here). We need rain though as the winter was cold but low on snow and we haven't had a lot of rain either. Take care!

It is always so fascinating to watch horse communication. Mares, to me, are so authentic in their communication due to their importance in the herd. Observing a herd is one of the most valuable ways to learn horse communication. Gotta love it!

Lovely video 😊😊😊! I love the was that Eefje is pretending that she's never even met Geertje, Ginny, Gea and Hester before, even though they shared the same field last year 😂😂! Definitely a case of not wanting to mix with the babies now that she's in 'big school 😂😂😂. Sjirkje seems to be so attentive to the youngsters 😍😍😍. It was so sweet the way that she was sniffing noses with her daughter, Jildou, and it was cute the way that Lieke, Lianne and Lina were clacking at the older horses, telling them that they are submissive 😍😍😍. This is so interesting to me to learn the psychology of horses. The younger horses all lined up it seemed wanting attention or acceptance from the older horses. I think I might know why the horses prefer to drink from the ditch. My lecturer in equine science told us that horses' sense of thirst is related to time spent drinking, not amount of water that the horse drinks. So if the water trays in the boxes in the stable don't let out water fast enough, the feeling of thirst might have passed before the horse had had their fill and drunk the amount they need. You obviously don't get that issue with the ditch, so they get to drink their fill. I don't know for sure, but I was thinking the horses choosing the ditch might be related to this

@@aileen694 How very kind of you to ask about our week of horror down here in Texas! Luckily, I only lost power on the first day for 3.5 hours. Then they told us to boil our water. Finally, our services are restored for the most part, but there was so much damage done to trees, power lines, vegetation, water pipes, etc. Texas is not equipped to handle 9⁰ temperatures! I lost one third of my beautiful Asian landscape which I had nurtured for so many years. It broke my heart, because it takes a long time for plants to become established. One day at a time. Once they've got used to each other again, do you notice if the mother-teenchild pairings show a preference for each other's company, within the combined herd? Or do the teens still prefer to hang out together? I read somewhere that within large herds you can see multi-generation family groups of mums, daughters from different years and even granddaughters staying together, but I think that was in wild herds, maybe of other grazers and not horses.

M Dee I think you meant Geertje?? Yes she does go riding with Yvonne and Rinske sometimes. Ginny the mare is still young and isn’t quite ready to be trained yet that doesn’t start until age 3.

Oops Sorry Geertje - yes, that's who I meant. I always see her doing groom work & was hoping that she also gets to ride sometimes. Plus, a good way to exercise 2 or 3 horses at once! 👍
