Only Marine Corps Ball I’d ever want to attend would be to go back in time to 1955 when Sgt. Reckless attended. Reckless was a racing mare who was purchased by the Marines during the Korean War to carry ammunition up Vegas hill to marines holding off the advance of Chinese infantry. She was wounded twice and but carrying ammo. She was given the rank of Sgt after the conflict and was smuggled back stateside and welcomed by other marines dressed in her best blue cape with all her medals an achievements. She ate all the cake and flowers and drank all the beer.

The Military has the job of Protecting and Defending the Constitution from all enemies, foreign and domestic. I don't understand this at all. It's the Marine Corps. Ball. You Either show or don't show or you're voluntold to show. The only times us grunts used to go is 1)st. If you had this epic date you met on the strip in Waikiki Hawaii that wants to go really bad and is pretty much begging you to take her and even then the real reason you're going is because command promised there was going to be an open Bar all night and you didn't have to stay till the end. 2)nd. If your the 1st Sergeants go-to guy for Fancy company drill and he wants you to plan some custom rifle drill with spins and throws with M16's for a Lt. General that is coming in to congratulate the Battalion on an amazing job on deployment and you are getting a NAM out of the deal. Those are the only reasons I can see any Marine saying yes to that School Dance atmosphere.

Saluting in doors to an officer is appropriate when it comes to certain ceremonies or practices. For instance, when receiving any kind of award from an officer you take with your left, shake with your right, once done shaking you preform a salute even if indoors.
