Sad you didn't talk about the game's "relationship system." To elaborate, characters will play better if there are other characters they like on their team or nearby (on base while batting, in the outfield next to one another, etc). Whats funny about this system is that every two characters has a number out of 100 for how well they like each other, if its above 50 they get bonuses, while if its below 50 they get penalties. What makes this really funny is that Bowser and Mario/Luigi have a score of (roughly) 20, implying they don't like each other much. However, Bowser and Toadette have the lowest score in the entire game, sitting at 5 whole points. This means that Toadette hates Bowser more than anyone else in the entire world and apparently the feeling is mutual.

Nice to see Mario Baseball get some recognition, Mario Superstar Baseball is one of the best Mario sports title. There’s a small but passionate competitive community for the game and they even made their own emulator for it. I’d check out Dinger City and their content to see how deep the game gets.

Fun Sluggers memory: When I was a kid, there was some family over for a holiday get together. My cousin and I were playing this game in my room on a hand-me-down tiny CRT from my sister’s room. My Grandma came into my room holding a glass of red wine, and I was batting as she walked in, and I swung the Wii remote as she opened the door, and shattered her wine, all over the floor. Nobody was hurt, so it’s a very funny memory of this game and my childhood. Super Sluggers is in my top 5 favourite games of all time. I know it like the back of my hand. And as much as I would like another Mario Baseball, the fear I have for how it would be handled given the track record of Switch era Mario Sports, makes me almost not want it at the same time. I get this feeling that there would be 3-5 very generic baseball parks, and barely enough characters to fill 2 teams with what they did to other Mario Sports games on Switch. I would love if they could work on different intensities of pitching and batting with the motion controls though. I used to swing the Wii remote super hard thinking it would make hitting homers and throwing speed balls easier, but now I realize Sluggers pretty much has waggle controls.

I just got through a week of playing Super Sluggers. I've been wanting a new Mario Baseball since the Switch released. Unfortunately, though, the fan reactions to the past three sports games leaves me feeling uncertain. Ideally, I'd keep everyone from Sluggers and add around 15 newcomers; this would be a good game to include all seven Koopalings as separate characters. Given what happens with Mario rosters these days, however, that sounds like a tall order. I can only hope we get a new baseball at some point.

Relax, I have to say, your expertise as an entertainer and content designer has really continued to improve. Even back then, your videos were entertaining. I feel like this video in particular though had a good mix of positivity and negativity, and many of the jokes made me laugh because of how good it subverted my expectations, like when you hit the cartridge with the bat again, and said "sorry" right away. It's all good stuff. And the length of the video and story writing was just about the right length. Nothing felt like it dragged on to long. Good job!

Super Mario Sluggers is one of my favorite Mario spinoffs ever. It encompasses everything about how good the Wii era of Mario spinoffs was. Everything about it was given so much love and care, from the characterization even in this simple story, to the lineup of characters going beyond mainline Mario and genuinely taking from Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country (now if only Wario Land and maybe WarioWare showed up too...), to the gameplay being such a fresh yet hype take on a classic sport with plenty added flourishes (e.g. if one captain's on the pitch and the other's on the bat, there's a special "VS" screen!), it's one of THE best experiences I've had with Mario spinoffs. (Certainly thousands of miles more interesting than Golf imo, idk why that's the one that caught on) But as much as I loved that game, seeing what they did with Strikers makes me not want a sequel. I feel like what would be an amazingly huge and surprisingly risky roster would be held back by liveservice bs expecting the game to sell gangbusters because it has Mario on the cover and in the name, and thus will not live past a second season and thus barely end up having the essentials (seriously why is Battle League missing KOOPA TROOPAS?!). And it'll just be *another* black spot on the resumés of both Rosalina and Pauline, who have had terrible luck with the spinoffs so far, missing out on games like this and Strikers Charged (and in Pauline's case, Mario Kart Wii, though at least 8 Deluxe is a *decent* substitute unlike the utter flop most of the other franchises have gotten; Tennis Aces barely scratches above ok in my opinion).
