The concept of the Marketplace is incredible, but it has so, SO many issues. There are some great maps, like Marketplace Creator Tycoon, Terra Swoop Force, Grid Runners, and many others. It's just that it's buried by thousands of trash like Dre- I mean "green man" skins and Amo- sorry, "Imposter Guys" skins.

Well if a system like the marketplace was more accessible to the common creator, and it also had readable reviews, refunds, at least some screening for ripoffs, copyright screening, and clickbait prevention (misleading thumbnail and title). If these were true then it wouldn't be terrible. Of course I like Java's system much better, but I do get that there are limitations with the fact that Bedrock is on heavily locked down consoles and therefore needs a different way of doing things that everyone can use equally regardless of platform.

Many other people will make the same mistake as you and Microsoft will happily take your money and run instead of taking the broken map down and refunding the victim's minecoins. It should be illegal to not have some form of review section in order to warn others that a map is broken or isn't worth the money. That's why I won't spend a single penny on their store until they fix it. I'm not against the store itself, I'm against the way they currently run it.

@@platinummew3887 my wifi is really crappy but everyone i play with has tried to host a world to see if it would also lag for them and its always the same When more than 3 players are on a world at once it starts lagging I'm sure its mostly the consoles fault as it probably struggles with loading everyone's chunks When everyone is together it isnt that bad but I still have to eat 2 or 3 times before it actually eats the food If even if a single player is 500 blocks away it starts getting issues with breaking blocks and seeing other players Some lag is understandable if a lot of players are loading chunks but this is too much As i've said i'm sure the console plays a big part in this too but the game itself is unstable when you play with 4 friends

On the Xbox it used to be possible to download texture packs, skins, and data packs by using the Xbox file explorer and Microsoft edge. However after a few videos was made on the topic Microsoft completely removed the file explorer to force people to use the marketplace

I actually find that the biggest issue with the marketplace is that it’s incredibly hard to get approved to be a creator, but also Microsoft takes a MASSIVE cut of the money made off of marketplace purchases Edit: also I’d just like to mention that when most platforms switched over to bedrock that’s also when they switched to minecoins and the marketplace, but before that switch I had purchased a bunch of texture and skin packs on mobile, and when they switched all console platforms over to bedrock they revamped all of the items in the marketplace, in which they basically deleted and reuploaded all of them, and because of this I lost about 50$ worth of texture packs and skin packs, and I was just a kid at the time so I didn’t know what to do other than just be salty cause I didn’t know how to use email, I’ve since purchased some of these items again but the fact that I had to do that is irritating

I used to hate the marketplace... until I became a skin creator. The amount of work required to make a decent fully custom painted and shaded 8-12 skin skinpack easily adds up to around an hour or two per skin on top of potentially more time for concept designs if its entirely original skins. I will always agree that shameless cash grabs IP theft and low effort trend content like most among us themed skins shouldn't be for sale, but entirely original skin designs with visible effort and care put into them should always have the option to be if the creator chooses. I totally see the appeal of being paid for this work.

Some corrections, it is still possible to install content on closed platforms without the marketplace - namely, XBOX. It's just a pain in the ass is all. Furthermore, Bedrock still has mods, and they're actually easier to install than on Java. On Java, you need an entirely new launcher, need all players involved to install the same mods, etc. On Bedrock, all you need is to install the file online (there are websites that host stuff like that, just like Java) and then click the file. Not only is it instantly installed with zero problems, it also automatically installs to all clients when other people join your world. Very easy, much more efficient than Java, and much cleaner, too. The Marketplace is only the primary source of mods on consoles, and as I've established before, tech-savvy players can get around that, too. Another misconception seems to be that the only place to install maps is from the marketplace. Again, just look online to find a few that suit your fancy if the ones in the store are too pricy. Prices are typically content creator dictated, so it's not really Mojang's or Microsoft's fault there. The map thing was less of an error and more of a weird way of wording it that might cause confusion, and same with the prices thing. That's about it, everything else here seems accurate.

The main issue is that Microsoft's marketing is extremely misleading. Usually DLC actually adds stuff to or extends the main game (Like allowing you to actually use it in all worlds), but in terms of the Marketplace, it just refers to these sponsored, extended adventure maps. Also, Microsoft promotes the Marketplace as a safe, regulated place, yet copyright-breaking items still make it in (Microsoft is a billion-dollar tech company, this shouldn't happen).

What you said about Java modding is not exactly true. You only need to install Fabric or Forge and then drop any mods into the "Mods" folder in the .Minecraft folder. After doing it once or twice it's really not that difficult, you don't need any other launchers (although there are launchers such as Tekkit or CurseForge) I do understand that it's easier for kids to download mods on Bedrock, but if there's a responsible teen/adult involved it's really easy to download mods nowadays :)

This kind of stuff is definitely worth talking about, but I feel like the biggest issues of the marketplace weren't actually touched upon as much as they needed to be. Yea, the marketplace is bad, advertises everywhere to the point of being kind of annoying, and often overprices its content, but not nearly as many people would care if those were the only issues. The Java version of the game has no market place, and no one is really upset at that. The obvious issue is that unlike Java, the bedrock version has no other way to add additional content for free. Although this was briefly mentioned, the way it was portrayed in this video, as well as other similar discussions on the topic paints the idea that the only issue is that people making their own mods and other content can charge for their content. But honestly, I really don't see many people who mind that at all. A lot of people would agree with you that those people deserve some support for making content like that. The issue people have is that the marketplace has REPLACED older features of the game and sold worse versions back. The biggest issue for a lot of people(myself included) is skins. This video mentions them, but again just paints the idea that the issue here is simply that there's a price tag attached to them. That sucks, but that isn't the real problem at all. The problem is that in order to force you to get skins, they took away the ability to make custom ones. That I feel is almost always underplayed in discussions on this, but it is a HUGE problem. If you're only allowed to have what's on the store, that vastly limits what you can have and takes away your ability to actually be what you want. The idea that picking a skin from a small handful of other people's options is the same as being able to be what YOU want to be just doesn't work here. Want to have a skin that looks like your irl self? You cant. That oc you made and have a strong attachment to? Get over it, it's not important so you get these designs some other person made to represent yourself. Hell, want to just look like that character you like? As the guy with the Mario pfp i can tell you I'm never going to be able to do that on console now. Even if everything was free and there was a full ocean of content out there, the fact that this feature took away choice is a HUGE issue. And before I move on, its worth mentioning an old Q/A that minecraft had on their site. Back when the customizable characters were revealed for bedrock, there was a Q/A that talked about what was in the game and what plans they had. One question was something like, "When will there be custom skins on console?" The answer was something like "We have no plans to add this feature into the console verion. Buuuuut instead you can use our character creator..." and then it went on about how great the creator was and specifically how "inclusive" it was and how it was totally a great feature to have. If you're a console player, this is a slap in the face. Nevermind how limited and awful the creator is, not to mention each individual customization costs money, it is ANYTHING but inclusive. If you have to pay to be what you want, and you can ONLY chose from OTHER people's options for your representation of yourself, that is the exact opposite of inclusive. It seems even minecraft noticed how awful this response was. Last I checked, they removed this answer from the Q/A entirely. (If someone could find the original version of that Q/A, that would make for an interesting topic btw..) Similar things can be said with texture packs. But also, most texture packs are made quite a bit differently for better and for worse. In the context of a market like this, you're basically forced to make every texture look drastically different to the main game. That's fine if that's what you want, but let's say you just want to change something like the look of armor to cover less of your character(there are packs like that for Java btw, they're very nice). Well, too bad. If you like minecraft's look, but just want those more subtle, personal changes, you wont get any. With this type of marketplace, why would you make a pack like this? (And that's assuming you're allowed too, i dont actually know). And with all the little things that could be changed, there's no way you'll have a texture pack to account for every little change you might want to have. And in case someone says something like, "well they need to make money, this is just how it is," I have some things to say about that. First, just because they want to or are incentivized to do something, that doesn't make that thing good. No one is unaware of why the marketplace exists. And you also shouldn't ignore the actual issues people have just because you don't think they're valid(not saying the video does this btw, by now I'm just ranting about how people online in general talk about minecraft). In these discussions, I see a lot of people not acknowledging the real reasons these features are hated, and as a result coming up with solutions that dont fix the problem. For example just framing this problem as "people dont want to pay money" completely ignores the actual problem here. And second, you COULD solve these problems quite easily and still give people ways to make money. You can still be greedy without taking away game features. For skins for example, the type of skins you can make on Java are still limited in ways that the ones on Bedrock are not. On java all skins are the same blocky shape, but bedrock lets you have skins of different shapes. If you really need to compromise, let people people make skins like before, but if you wanted one with a different type of bodyshape or whatever, they'd have to buy a skin with those features. Not the most ideal, but certainly an ok solution. And minecraft would still be able to make tons of money, even if not as much. Who knows, the more positive feedback you'd have to this sort of thing would likely have people more willing to use the shop at all. ...........so um yea. Sorry about the rant no one is ever going to read. Neat video, and it's nice to hear people address this stuff more, I just think the actual problem with the store wasn't really addressed. In general a lot of people dont address that issue even though I hear a lot of people complaining about those things. I know I certainly have these issues. The marketplace itself is fine, but it replaced things that were pretty important to minecraft for some. Also I like the editing style, keep it up..... @@dudeofdudovia First of all, you a homie for even bothering to read that rant lol. Second, didn't know too much about some versions of bedrock so it's pretty nice to hear some other stuff. Addons to the xbox version I didn't know about so that's definitely worth considering. The version of bedrock i know most about is the switch version, which is definitely one of the more limited ones. It would be worth it for me to research other versions more. I also should have mentioned that some of the issues i ranted about aren't in all versions at least. Mobile and pc for example still let you use custom skins (although it is really dumb that custom skins are the only ones that dont transfer over to other versions with your account the fact that you even read that first comment tho earned you a like

bedrock marketplace is not inherently bad, it just must be fixed. low quality and stolen contend must be eliminated, purchase confirmations must be added, creators should get fair cut from the sales, minecoins must be removed and packs should cost real money intead like in old console version. also emotes must be removed and costs must be reduced. also all the gamebreaking bugs of bedrock must be fixed, hardcore, finite old console world sizes, spectator mode and custom superflats must be added. the ui must be made to look more minecrafty like java and old console ui and you should be able to pause game. if all this would happen, i would have almost nothing against bedrock. but still java would remain my preferred version.

The problem is, the system is a failure. Even if all the bugs are fixed, all the prices are forced to reasonable levels, and all of the content is brought up to the level of quality of a Feed the Beast modpack, the store will still fail at its purpose. The content are not mods. The content only runs in the world they give you. You can't load it in a new world. You can't load a bunch of them together. If I can't go back and see what that castle my kids spent 3 years building looks like with RTX, or a furniture mod, what's the point.

things I think will make the marketplace better: 1: "two" markets one of them for partners and another for people wanting to share their creations(for free) and the players can choose who joins and who doesn't 2: add-ons that can be used for your own worlds 3: better quality control as currently most marketplace items feel greedy and lazy 4: Mojang and Microsoft should focus thier time and money on the game and less advertising/showing of marketplace items as SpongeBob doesn't matter to Minecraft 5: skins made in the character creator should be usable on java 6: atmosphere with a more community feal and music(like the Wii shop channel)

Sorry for the late comment, for some reason I didn’t see the video a…month ago after it released holy fuck I’m late. I think the marketplace is that bad, but it’s only that bad because there is a better comparison already. The weakest argument in the video is comparing this to COD’s yearly releases and (admittedly stupid) battle pass BS, when comparing Java and Bedrock (which is far more salient of a comparison) is dismissed earlier by saying it’s about Bedrock. At least the earlier COD games had a reason to exist, since saying World at War and Modern Warfare 2 are the same is just wrong. It’s only a punching bag because COD’s been fumbling the ball consistently ever since arguably Black Ops 3. In fact, it might even be worse in the case of Call of Duty, because the COD fanboy (I forgot if it’s Timmy or Jimmy so I’ll call him Dimmy) is generally buying worse products yearly. Cold War’s worse than Black Ops and Black Ops 2, WWII is worse than World at War, and Vanguard makes WWII look good by comparison. Sure, you can also buy the same game around 4 times with New Super Mario Bros, but it’s also a bit unfair as the first is a genuinely innovative game for the series and the other three are all at least good games. Buying 12 COD games and going in chronological order is going to induce clinical depression sooner rather than later. And if it’s just money, you’re both worse off than the technically-not-free-to-play guy who just bought one key off the community marketplace and better off than the compulsive gambler who spent a few grand unboxing unusual items or praying for australiums. Both of those guys are from the same game, Team Fortress 2, and are probably both in a trade server (although for the former not even he knows why). TL;DR good video but the COD slander’s uncalled for, weakens an earlier point, and isn’t even the biggest failing of COD.

In regards to the video I'm not super proud of it, probably my least favorite video so far, didn't do enough research, rushed it, and my overall opinion on the marketplace shifted to a very negative opinion of it by the end of the project.

I feel you for the nintendo switch version of the game, i wanted to play the game on the switch ( single player )and it's just unplayable with all the game breaking bug the game has, to the point your world is soft lock due to it, it is so bad the game should be remove from the store since their product is literaly broken.

i have had a few isuess as i am a bedrock player and play on a fire tablet such as data relocatation wich gets rid of your worlds and you has to look around files for hours but that is praticaly the one bug i incounterd and it wasmostly a android issue and i have been playing bedrock editn since it was in 2.1

I think the marketplace is a really cool idea. Giving artists and devs the ability to sell their work is fantastic. And the ease of using marketplace content instead of mods and/or maps is impressive. But they really need to fix the 30% cut problem. Even Roblox pays 70% to devs. (Also it's kinda dumb that for $10 a month you can't get a working server. I can make one for free and it runs better)
