In this video I demonstrate a mid 1990s Marshall JTM30 2x10 combo with stock Eminence Heritage speakers. I'm playing it with a Gibson Les Paul 1959 Reissue. This amp has a beautiful, twangy Fender-like tone.

Great amps, I've owned mine for nearly 20 years (a 2x10") I don't use the overdrive channel, the clean channel breaks up nicely for the classic Marshall valve sound, then push it with a compressor or overdrive pedal if you want more gain(I use a rat pedal). I use a Marshall powerbrake with it ,with master volume on full to get the cranked sound at bedroom levels. Its been pretty reliable apart from a couple of pots that needed replacing etc, 3 cheap repairs in 20 years. It gets hot but never been a problem.

I own a 210 like this & the 112 Celestion version. They often suffered major issues from overheating , being fixed bias and having a poorly designed cabinet with inadequate ventilation. For all their shortcomings ,I love these amps . I play them at lower volumes in my living room and have always liked their almost Fender clean channel , the 5881's may play a part . The 112 gives a distinct "bloom" to the note , with a lush bottom end & a very direct projection of the sound. The drive channel is kinda muddy at lower volumes, so that's when I use the 210 as the clean channel breaks up quicker and the drive channel sounds more "open" & less directional. Currently my 210 is running way too hot & the 212's Reverb is knackered ... not ideal , but they sound amazing . I wouldn't suggest people try to gig these as a reliable amp in 2019 but for a studio or at home player ,it's a cool little tool that makes more sense than buying another pedal. 😉👍

Own a NOS 1x12 JTM 30 with matching 1x12 ext cab I picked up for a song in 2001. It’s the one amp I’ll never sell. Had an opportunity to pick up the 2x10 years ago. I passed and regret it.

I had a JTM 622 Combo in the mid-late 90's. It was the best sounding Marshall I've ever played through. Too bad the amp didn't last long. It had a design flaw; the tube position and the thin steel chassis made it easy for the PCM board to get heated up and fail. It was in the shop more than half the time. The Marshall company took it back and sent me a JCM 900 combo. The JCM 900 did not sound as good. The JTM 622 was truly the best sounding Marshall and probably one of the best sounding amps I've ever played through.

It wasn't bad if you turned the master up to 7 or 8, but I don't remember it for its clean sounds, it must be said that the JTM60 had EL34 power tubes. to play Iron Maiden-style metal it did its job, unfortunately it broke too often, burned the power valves, and fell silent on stage. finally, fed up and angry, I sold that Marshall and the Mesa Boogie cab and bought myself a Fender Blues Junior, reliable and with magnificent sounds, and I have never regretted it.

Hi great ! I'd like to own a 6L6/5881 Marshall so... JTM. And i'm looking around and i was wondering what differencese are between JTM 45, JTM 30, JTM ST20, ... all have 2 of them as power stage tubes but one is rated "20" and the others 30. What are the main differencese between, overall, the st20 and the regular jtm45 ? (The jtm30 is two channel and there are many other differences... but is even the cheapest on used market so ... ). And i also was wondering: buying a used jtm30 combo 2x10 and rehouse it like a head would it be possible do it ...upside-down ? So i would get a more tipical Marshall head design and, most of all, i'd have the tubes above the circuit and not under underneath it. So maybe i'd solve the heating issues. ...but i'd have the circuit plate also upside-down with components hanging ... would it be a problem ? What do you think ? Do you think that to buy a jtm30 nowdays is just a loss of money ?

These sounded great but were super unreliable. I had a JTM60. Power tubes sent heat into the chassis and blew out the bridge rectifier and killed solder joints. They pulled the line after two years. If you find working one stick an aluminum shield over the EL34s to block the heat.

Exactly why I steered clear. Was impossible to find one that hadn't bitten the dust for a while. Such a lovely amp.

@auntjenifer7774 5 жыл бұрын
They Marshall rectified that problem by using vents in the top and renamed the amps jcm600, I have one and have had it for years with hundreds of gigs on the same tubes and never had a problem, not even noise as it's quite with NO hiss.

very nice amp , anyway it would be nice to hear videos of those good budget tube amps also played with good budget guitars like the SG tribute stock..or a Mexican strat...or a Lespaul studio with peavey classic 30, or also those peavey classic , marshall jtm 30/60 in to marshall cabinet with those premetioned budget guitars.

How does this Marshall JTM30 compare to the Marshall DSL40?

Andrew Lukins the dsl 40 will actually last. These jtm30s are famous for having major issues. There are some out there going strong but the odds of it being a good one aren’t great.

I've got the 1x12" Version of this Amp. Can definitely recommend using a Strat on this one. A little crunch in the clean channel & it almost sounded like Ed King. Who had a great single coil sound in my opinion. The video title gives it away: It has some nice Twang in it also. Try neck pickup and a bit of that awesome Spring Reverb.

Great little amps. I have a new transformer, maybe a diode mod. And biased appropriately so it doesn’t cook like many have. You can also jumper the effects loop for a slight boost.

don't they have overheating issues?
@Quetzalcoatl999
@Quetzalcoatl999 5 жыл бұрын
I believe the overheating was more prevalent in the 60w version. The side ways tubes with little to no ventilation made a ez-bake situation cooking components. It didn't take too much to fix tho, some people put computer fans in the back, other people just put some heat insulation tape or a heat shield. I have the 1x12 jtm30 and love it.

I have a couple of JTM60 and JCM600 videos. I show a mod that addresses that problem in one of the later ones. I’m not sure if 30 had the problem but 60 certainly did

Clean channel sounds a bit Fendery, but the high gain sounds all Marshall! I've been meaning to swap out one of the wolverine speakers in my TSL with an eminence. Being 20 odd years old, it's starting to get a few cracks and pops so need to swap out the HV caps first. Nice playing Johan. I reckon you should start a series of videos Titled "Can it Plexi". Then again, that's your entire channel! Keep it up mate.

Great video as usual! Liked the cleaner sounds, not too crazy about the gainy tone of this amp. Perhaps it would be better through a 4x12 with Greenbacks?

the jtm 30 is a lovely amp, but... it have a big overheating problem, which make it really hard to find one in good condition here in Brazil. Knew a guy who used to mod those, getting rid of that common problem, he used to gig with one, great sounding amp.

I can attest that these amps sound so good with single coils, but damn I never realized how much sizzle and bite you can get out of a humbucker through the clean channel. Only bad thing about these amps is that they're full of reliability problems. Almost not trustworthy to gig with regularly. And fixing them is expensive as hell, almost as much as these amps are worth.
