About how the infection transmission works in this series, it isn’t transmissible through bites. We see Hawkeye get bit and nothing happens. It’s that the pathogen fell into the sewers when Punisher blew it up months ago, so everyone is already infected but trigger at different points (hence how Cap, Beast and Thing got turned out of nowhere and why Human Torch turned after he died without making contact with infected). This cannibal plague is a mutation of the original isotope Punisher got into himself, meaning he’s the only one that carries the intended effects of enhanced resistance to the environment and diseases. So tl;dr everyone is infected but turn spontaneously and inconsistently, except for people with healing factors and seemingly naturally immune humans like Reed and Black Panther.

I remember reading “Avengers vs the Marvel universe” because it looked neat at my local comic book shop that I didn’t go to that often, that I went to as a 10-ish year old. And I remember reading it and going “Why DID they make this??” So I’m glad Sal had the same reaction to this line of books 💀

The weird publication order might be why this story ends so abruptly. Punisher vs MU was published first and was also the last chapter of the story so a lot of missing details were already known to us by then when we picked up Wolverine vs. MU. Its like the Ouija series where the second movie is the prequel of the first movie.

Awesome episode! I've been hoping you guys would cover one of these series for a long time, so hearing you'll get to the other two eventually (or Marvel Zombies vs. Army of Darkness) has me pumped. There are indeed a lot of unanswered questions all the series bring up, but I seem to remember that the virus got into the global water supply once Punisher released it and slowly changed humanity over the months until it manifested, so that's why people seem to get infected at random; they already were, and it's just a matter of "turning".

Maybe Cap turns because the Super Soldier Serum had been fighting the virus like Deadpool and Wolverine's healing factor, but unlike the latter two Cap had a limited amount the serum in him so the virus destroyed what he had in him during their stand?

Theory on why Punisher didn't turn: he was already such a murderous bastard the virus wasn't able to CHANGE that part of his brain so it had no place to root. Even Wolverine and Deadpool have a level of disgust with killing that Frank doesn't.

I am a big Jonathan Maberry fan and this has the hallmarks of his writing in his novels. Cold war weapon that turns people into zombie cannibals. I read the final issue of this in a barns and noble magazine aisle back in 2012, and was so confused. I also couldn’t find any information about it years later and thought I might’ve imagined it. Which brings me to my question: does anyone remember a Batman book (most likely some kind of elseworlds-like title) from either the 80s or 90s, where everything is a weird hybrid of gothic and sci-fi (I seem to recall Bruce being a cyborg or something?) and Arkham is a hellish underground place. I remember reading it when I was maybe 10 years old, and can’t find anything about it.

That sounds to me like Batman: I, Joker which is an insane story. The Batman isn’t Bruce where he does have something over his right eye which could be what you are thinking of with him being a cyborg. He has the villains in tanks where it does seem to be a combination of gothic and sci-fi. The ending of that story is Joker becoming influenced by Bruce Wayne who was Batman to become the new Batman and fight the current one.

Don't know how canon or if it has been retconned, but Spider-man is the person Reed goes to for these kind of things as he considers him the better bio chemist. As soon as Spider-man was infected one of their main cure chances was already gone and I consider that the reason Reed had already declared finding a cure impossible.
