I look at it kind of like the scene in Buckaroo Banzai when they're running through the lab, and Jeff Goldblum asks Perfect Tommy "why is that watermelon there?" and Tommy answers "I'll tell you later." The Reavers were the former guards/henchmen of the Hellfire Club as I recall. When the X-Men go after the Hellfire Club to try to rescue Dark Phoenix, one of the guys uses their powers to increase Wolverine's mass, causing him to fall down into the basement. The rest of the X-Men are captured, leaving Wolverine to solo his way back up from the basement tearing through all the goons....who later become the Reavers. This is why they aren't so happy with Wolverine.

I'm someone who doesn't read the comics, but I recognized this scene immediately from the most bizarre source: In the fifth Scott Pilgrim book, Scott is shown going on a tangent to Ramona while she tries on clothes, and one thing I remember him mentioning is, "And Wolverine totally gets crucified! On an X!"

X-Men #251 is the comic that got me started collecting. I still remember seeing that issue in the comic book rack at K&B Drug Store. It caught my eye, I picked it up and flipped through the pages and was blown away by the artwork. I was hooked!

Good breakdown. This is the issue that got me obsessed with X-men & Wolvie in particular. I backtracked the story a few years & continued collecting for several more years afterwards. The crossovers in the late 80s through the 90s were awesome. The Mutant Massacre, Fall of the Mutants, Inferno, & Age of Apocalypse were some of the most Epic, although there were other good ones.

I'll always remember the X-Men comics during this time, especially everything before 250. With the Inferno (crazy time for Marvel and the X-Men) just ending somewhere around 244, then losing Rogue/Carol to Mastermold, then the Reavers arriving with Storm dying. Things just got worse and worse. It was depressing for my pre-teen self.

Thank you I had totally forgotten where that came from. I'm more of a Superman and the Super family fan. But any comic nerd from the 80's and 90's read the X books too. So I honestly thought that came from "God loves Man kills" now I have to call my youngest nephew and tell him I was wrong but doing so well show him you have to admit when you are wrong even about little things like this. Jesus Christ took that punishment for real… that was the most heartbreaking part. Wolverine fought against it, but Christ did it willingly on our behalf. Lived the life we could and died the death we should, and rose again so as to defeat “the adversary”, death. The Bible wrote it first, and Jesus told it first.

I remember borrowing this from my cousin when I was a kid. I loaned him 247 and 248 in return. Rogue went thru the Seige Perilous in 247. One of my favorite runs (Silvestri/Claremont) and one of the best lineups. The other 2 were the Byrne/Claremont and Romita Jr/Claremont.

There is zero evidence that Mr. Rogers was even capable of ignoring Hydra's infiltration of SHIELD. That is just one obvious example of his eventual choice to change his world into a new timeline.
