To be fair, when trhe Director was hired, she told them that she had another project that she had already committed to in 3 years. Disney said "No problem, this is a 2 year project, and even if it runs over we have an entire year." She "left" at the 3 and 1/2 year mark to fulfill her prior commitment. That's on Disney for mismanagement, not a sign that she wasn't interested in the movie. The movie was done on time, then Disney wanted reshoots and to rework the entire script.

It's important to keep in mind that the movie was finished at the 2 year part... then Disney decided to rework the script, and demanded she lead the reshoots. Which she did for another year, before finally having to leave because Disney kept wanting more. That said, studio micromanaging and changing the director's vision that they had originally agreed upon is a sure fire way to kill passion for a project. Iron Man worked without a finished script because Robert Downey Jr *was* Tony Stark. Ms. Marvel managed to be a bright spot in this mess because Iman Vellani *is* Kamala Khan. Brie Larson has no idea who Carol Danvers is supposed to be, so she let all the rewrites and reshoots pull her in every different direction. The improvisation in Iron Man worked because they got the characters right. This is what so few people, if any, get about comics that actual fans of the comics have always understood. It’s about the characters. Always has been. Always will be. The stakes may not be cosmic like Infinity War, but if they’re huge for the character then it matters more to the fans. Spider-Man wasn’t fighting to save the universe or even the world in the first movie. He was saving people. The kids in the tram, Mary Jane and his own life. It was personal for the character because he lost his uncle by failing to act. Now Spider-Man must always act or risk failing like that again, but what if he takes the wrong action?

Pretty sure the actress for Kamala/Miss Marvel.was the only one working on the movie that had any passion for being there. I don't think most of the other actors(at least the main line) were excited to be there, I don't think the director was, I don't think most of the VFX and other people behind the camera were and I don't think Disney/Marvel as a company was. I feel they should have cut most if not all of Monica and Nick Fury. Also most of the musical planet and flerken "humor". Instead focused on the story being about Kamala coming into her own as a hero by finally meeting her hero Captain Marvel and finding out Captain Marvel isn't actually like the idol she has been seeing her as. Then build a conflict between Miss Marvel and Captain Marvel putting Miss Marvel's naive optimistic view on heroism as someone who hasn't seen much against Captain Marvel's more pragmatic view on heroism that's come from decades of trying to help people. Have the movie go through various characters and locations that show Carol's "failings" as a hero. Either outright failings where she failed to save the day and/or situations where she was the hero, but saving the day came with consequences rather than simply being the idyllic resolution Kamala sees a hero as providing clashing with her image of what Carol and in turn a hero can be expected to be. You could even slot the current villain in here as a stark reminder of some of Carol's "failings" at least from Kamala's perspective as her actions indirectly lead to the impending doom of a planet and species. Still feel the villain would need some serious improvements both design and character-wise, but it would at least all work towards the main theme of the conflict between Kamala and Carol. That would also give Kamala a real character arc going from the naive little girl that idolises Carol and has wildly unrealistic expectations regarding what it means to be a hero in the real world to a young adult who still wants to be a hero, but knows that it comes at a cost and it isn't just all sunshines and rainbows as you save people. This would fill most of the movie with a level of tension until it is resolved at the climax when Kamala learns to accept Carol as who she is and not the image she had of her. This would them make Kamala a more valid super heroine going forward and would make her more likeable as the audience has been there with her through the growth. Maybe you can also have a smaller arc about how Carol re-learns some of the positivity/optimism from Kamala, but it doesn't really make much of a difference since I doubt she will be appearing in Marvel movies much more going forward going by her own feelings regarding it and how the character has been handled since her first movie.

I think it's ironic that a company hires a Black woman as the director in order to appear "woke"and check off the diversity boxes, then the second the film appears not to be doing well they throw her under the bus. Nia Decosta predicted the backlash saying "this is Kevin Feigi's film" 2 weeks before Marvel threw her under the bus. Marvel Studios kneecapped her creatively at every turn, so she left the film in post production (which actually happens all the time in Hollywood) out of frustration that the work she put in wasn't being respected by the studio who hired her. This isn't Nia Decosta's failing, this is a failing of Disney executives destroying their franchises for maximum profit. Nia Decosta was just a convenient fallguy for an insidious corporation's failures at writing, producing, and marketing a successful film.

Then she shows up in the final battle, yes, but does so little she barely even does something worth noticing besides a note on a single page. I'm not saying people wouldn't talk about the Avengers battling Thanos' army, but her worth is...worthless. But no matter how good the acting is or how well the people work together. The script was.......you said it in this video. Dirt. I dont think the mcu as a whole will die out because of this. Theyre still a 50+ billion dollar franchise. But this is definitely a wake up call for them. I honestly love this franchise. I grew up on it. Seeing it flop like this is very sad.

They've actually probably doomed this poor woman's career in MAJOR motion pictures because the studio always needs someone to blame. She had NO business directing this film. Why doesn't Marvel just listen to their own fanbase? We don't care what color or gender the writers or directors are, just make the script and project entertaining and your fans will ride with you. Its not hard

Early childhood abandonment trauma is a big thing. Don’t know how this film treats it, but you can’t just say ‘she’s a 36 year old woman, why is this an issue for her?’ I’m sure some people can just deal with it, but many can’t.
@belongtotoday4 ай бұрын
Sure but there's a big difference between being abandoned so your dad can go drink or cheat ....and being abandoned because someone was literally out saving every galaxy and living being existing. One thinks that once Rambeau was told this, she would shut up finally but she's still like "NO! I don't care! I wanted you to come play BARBIES with me! The galaxy doesn't matter! BARBIES DO! WAHHHHH!" That's the point it gets ridiculous because at nearly 40 it's not unreasonable to expect her to be less selfish, less immature and frankly less logically stupid. Especially since she's supposed to be this big, likeable, relatable hero AND a scientist type character yet she works on the maturity and morality of an overtired 3 year old.

What's funny is that this film could have easily been great, where the way I would have made it if they absolutely needed to have it be a team up film, was to have it start off showing Carol Danvers doing her schtick around Earth, a couple of years prior (after Endgame before she goes back to space). While she's fighting or whatever, have her commit mass damage that kills people. Fastforward to modern times where Carol is back on Earth again, where there's a big bad, she goes and tries to stop it, going to save a teenaged girl, BUT said teen is Rogue who uses her mutant powers to absorb Carol's powers (and the reason Rogue does this is because one of the people Carol killed was someone Rogue cared about deeply). What this would then do is create true conflict, answer a major problem Captain Marvel has had, give her a legit reason to need help, and introduce the Mutants in full force.

The Director took the job since Disney is offering the opportunity to set the record for the most expensive film directed by a black woman. It didn’t matter if they have a good script or not. For them what matters is they made the most expensive all chick flick directed by a black lady director. One for the records! Beat that! 😂

This movie suck Captain Marvel Powers are much weaker her power are downgraded so she does not outshine the other. The switching made no since it was completely consistent, they used their power a lot of time and nothing happen it was so random, and the villain was a third-rate discount gender swap Ronan the Accuser. But the worst part was how dump they made Monica Rambeau I don't know when to begin with how bad she was.

I’ve really stopped watching Marvel as this one continuous story. If a Marvel project is good, I’ll watch it and enjoy it, but it won’t get me invested in the overall story, especially when you see what it leads into. For me, the MCU, or anything their gonna try to do ended with Loki. It feels like a natural conclusion to this whole “multiverse” story beat and everything after that has a good chance of being junk.

I'll say at the end of the day we have secret wars and kang dynasty to reach that will have more money and better story put into it like the avengers infinity war and endgame. What possibly would happen in captain marvel 2 compared to the avengers movie. They need to show us about the incursions and setting up for a new team in the future. They are trying to set up for the kang dynasty & without this movie will effect all future movies.

A comment brushed on the major problem. There is no consistency of characterization. If Doctor Strange needs to be responsible hes the most responsible person in the MCU, if he needs to be a dipshit suddenly hes a drooling moron. Carol Danvers has this ten times worse because they never figured out who she is, and worse she doesnt have an arc. Strong women cant show weakness therefore no flaws, no arcs. Its bland. Tony Stark is compelling because he makes mistakes, huge ones, and fixes them in creative ways (sometimes even that is a flaw, when he goes too far)
@JorJorIvanovitch Жыл бұрын
Captain Marvel was way better in the comics Civil War 2 when Carol fought Tony over how to use the visions of the Inhuman kid to prevent future crimes (Minority Report). I mean Bruce Banner is assassinated, it is claimed Miles Morales will murder Captain America Steve Rogers, etc. The Ultimates team Carol leads which features the Blue Marvel (a superpowers scientist who is also black) has decent stories. Why don't Disney script writers read comic material which is often much better written than what they produce?

It was a well-thought-out video, but I don't think your jabs at Nia Dacosta were warranted. She talked about how much she put into the film so much. People have left during post-production before. I agree that the Meet Your Heroes arc could have been fleshed out, but they discussed it. There are also narratives you just ignored about the movie. The movie is flawed but not as bad as you painted it.
@ajourneythroughcinema1271 Жыл бұрын
The issue is she didn’t just get locked out of the editing room (which often happens- most notably to poor Ridley Scott). The issue is the reports said DaCosta basically walked on her own volition before even extensive reshoots were filmed. It is very possible she was another victim of a studio system behind the scenes, but she is also the director and artists choosing to leave their work unfinished never sits right with me nor ever will. Glad you enjoyed it though! I can’t begrudge someone liking something. But for me this was bottom of the barrel Marvel.

According to her. And that deserves just as much healthy skepticism as can be afforded to the journalist that reported the story. Especially when directors are under non disclosures through marketing and promotion. My end point is still the same. I found it to be a passionless film in my viewing and the end result makes someone telling me everything went great all the more dubious.

This was a story reported in a respected papers with additional stories written in places like the New York Times. It’s not like I got it from TMZ. And it didn’t impact my view on the film. Just my view on how things can happen and the cause and effect. Also it’s not like I just blamed DaCosta. I heaped a lot of fault on the screenwriters and studio as well.
