Associate Professor Dr. Taweechai Amornsakchai, a professor at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Mahidol University, is a distinguished scientist renowned for his innovative work in utilizing waste materials from pineapple plantations.
Dr. Amornsakchai's research focuses on reinforcing plastics with pineapple leaf fibers and exploring pineapple stem starch for biodegradable packaging. His work has led to the development of various products, including plastics and rubber, with artificial leather currently in development.
Collaborating with a startup team comprised of Mahidol University graduate students, Dr. Amornsakchai aims to bring these research outcomes to practical, widespread use. งานวิจัยของท่านมุ่งเน้นการพัฒนาพลาสติกเสริมแรงด้วยเส้นใยใบสับปะรด และการศึกษาแป้งจากลำต้นสับปะรดเพื่อผลิตบรรจุภัณฑ์ย่อยสลายได้ทางชีวภาพ ปัจจุบัน ผลงานวิจัยได้ถูกพัฒนาต่อยอดเป็นผลิตภัณฑ์หลากหลาย ทั้งพลาสติก ยาง และกำลังอยู่ในขั้นตอนการพัฒนาหนังเทียม
รศ.ดร.ทวีชัยทำงานร่วมกับทีมสตาร์ทอัพซึ่งประกอบด้วยนักศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษาของมหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล เพื่อนำผลงานวิจัยไปใช้ประโยชน์ในวงกว้าง ซึ่งนอกจากจะช่วยกระตุ้นเศรษฐกิจของประเทศแล้ว ยังมีส่วนช่วยลดคาร์บอนฟุตพริ้นท์ อันเป็นสาเหตุสำคัญของปัญหาโลกร้อนที่ทวีความรุนแรงขึ้นทุกวัน
