The good old days The Masters Apprentices (or The Masters to fans) were an Australian rock band fronted by Jim Keays on lead vocals, which originally formed as The Mustangs in 1964 in Adelaide, South Australia, relocated to Melbourne, Victoria in February 1967 and attempted to break into the United Kingdom market from 1970 before disbanding in 1972. Their popular Australian singles are "Undecided", "Living in a Child's Dream", "5:10 Man", "Think About Tomorrow Today", "Turn Up Your Radio" and "Because I Love You". The band launched the career of bass guitarist Glenn Wheatley,[3] who later became a music industry entrepreneur and an artist talent manager for both Little River Band and John Farnham. The band reformed periodically, including in 1987-1988 and again subsequently; they were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame at the ARIA Music Awards of 1998 Both Keays, with His Master's Voice and Wheatley, with Paper Paradise, wrote memoirs in 1999 which included their experiences with the band. Onetime guitarist Peter Tilbrook also released the biography A Masters Apprentice, Living In The Sixties in 2015. Peace out

Many years ago, at a street festival, I saw Darryl Cotton, Jim Keays and Russel Morris perform together . They did all their old 60/70s classics and sounded exactly the same as they did on the old black and white clips. It was hilarious watching the reactions of people who were too young to know who they were. These guys, live, were miles better than today's manufactured stuff.

Now you’re talking! One of the greats of late 60s early 70s Oz Rock. This song came out in 1970 hence “15 years and you still remember how”; a reference to 1955 and the start of Rock n Roll - Rock Around the Clock. They had a big hit with a ballad, It’s Because I Love You; I still love it when I hear it. RIP Glenn Wheatley RIP Jim Keays

Well that was a pleasant surprise. These guys are one of those Aussie bands you just grow up with here (well if you're around my age anyway - they were definitely part of my 1970s childhood hearing). Glenn by the way is the blonde guy on the right hand side of the 4. I saw Jim & the boys in the early 2000s as part of the Long Way to the Top tour - and hoo nellie - he hadn't lost anything.. not the looks (he was still so cute!!!!) or the voice - he was still belting it out brilliantly. It's Because I Love You is one of those songs practically imprinted on our DNA.

Well it's about time you got to more 60's and 70's Aussie music, I love masters apprentices. This particular song was written in protest to certain radio stations who refused to play their music, saying it was too loud. So they thought 💭🤔"Loud?! We'll give you loud!" 🤣 None of their stuff sounded like the other and one of their sweetest songs was "It's because I love you", which became a bit of an anthem in the late 60's. I sang it to an Egyptian lady friend of mine, when her hubby had to go away and she just melted and it made her feel more at ease. You'll understand why once you hear it. Other favourites are Undecided and Living in a child's dream.

Very fortunate to being in my late teens growing up in Adelaide in mid to late 1960s when the Adelaide bands were taking Australia by storm. Not only the Masters, but Twilights, Zoot ( who can't forget their Eleanor Rigby version) and Mississippi (which morphed into Little River Band). We were spoilt for choice as many fine musos joined other big name groups later. Their relocations to Melbourne was inevitable given the opportunity to have 3 times the population but their original fan base who by supporting them at the Oxford Club, St Clairs and the Octagon etc (what memories) gave them the incentive to try their luck interstate. I can proudly be called parochial in this instance as "Little Adelaide, the city of churches" was if not the birth place, was certainly the nursery of the Australian late 60s Rock scene ...... Living in a Child's dream definitely. Cheers
