To not focus on the overall wellbeing of mothers results in a short-sighted vision of community and family health. We live in a society that undervalues the mental and physical health of the mother during her pregnancy and postpartum phase and this has to change. By working for access to equitable high-quality maternal health and behavioural health services and seeking community engagement, we can lift up mothers and decrease disparities on health outcomes as they navigate pregnancy and postpartum.
