50:51 to quote the Architect "You have many questions and though the process has altered your consciousness, you remain irrevocably human. Ergo some of my answers you will understand and some you will not. Concordintly while your first question is the most pressing, it is also the most irrelevant ". This translates to "I know you wanna know wtf is going on, but coming here has made you different from everyone else. But you're still human. So some answers will make sense. The rest won't. I know your biggest question, and it is completely useless" So it stands to reason that(like in other sci-fi) he's more like a machine then your average human. And only seeing the Architect accomplished that.

Movie issues aside, the Merovingian fight is probably my favorite of the series. 30:20 An interesting theory I read somewhere regarding the bad CGI and weird "bowling balls" sound effect during the fight against the multiple agents Smith. It basically states that it was intentional from the Wachowski. This would be because the Matrix is not able to process so many programs running at the same time and its image rendering is affected by it. I kind of like this one :)

The reason why the animation from the Smith fight holds up (aside from the ragdoll physics) even though the textures don't, it's because it was done with mocap, and probably keyframe animation to fill in the parts that defy the laws of physics.

A little more detail on what the architect meant: The first iteration or V1.0 of the Matrix was a perfect world, which the human minds rejected. V 2.0 was the Nightmare Matrix with demons and ghosts and vampires which was ultimately rejected by the human mind as well. (The twin ghosts and the people walking on the walls are from V2.0 that weren't deleted courtesy of the Merovengian) The Oracle then introduced the variable of 'choice' for V3.0, the human mind can accept or reject to choose the matrix, all the errors that led to the rejection of the Matrix are compiled and 'The One' is the sum compilation of all those errors. He is given the powers to 'make him believe' that he is the Messiah and the savior of people (you'll see why later in the post) The people that reject the matrix are put into, you guessed it Zion. The machines purposely let humans leave and go to Zion as they are trying to compile all the shortcomings of the Matrix so that the next version of it has a much better success rate of acceptance. The scene with Neo and Architect has happened before 6 times, making the current matrix V3.6. The Architect informs Neo that Zion will now be destroyed BUT Neo has the choice to save 23 of them by picking the first door that leads to the source code. By doing that he merges with the source code and an improved version of the matrix is loaded. Zion is destroyed either way. The underlying complex of the Messiah made the previous the Ones choose the first door and save the 23 of them rather than let the whole humanity die. But Neo chooses Trinity breaking the cycle.

"I like the moves, it just feels a little slow" I mean... that's the point :P Neo at this point is "the One", and the agents are nothing more than a nuisance, it's why he starts out with only 1 hand for defending against them. When he realizes they have gotten "upgrades", he uses two hands but still only a "fraction of his power" as per the Shaggy meme. You have to remember that you can compare the Matrix basically to a virtual reality game. It's why Neo can break the rules so effortlessly because his mind is unlocked as it were, and he sees the Matrix fully as code only (as we saw in the Matrix). I assume another reason the fighting itself is also shown this way for the audience, same way in Dragonball Z you often just see large parts of fights even though they're literally moving faster than light at times.
@mikkelholst96
@mikkelholst96 3 жыл бұрын
i have also looked at the ghost twins as being outdated agents of sorts. Agents are identical (almost) to each other, like the twins are. The twins are basically impervious to bullets like the agents. Swords can hurt agents, but they just switch bodies and in a world where guns are the preferred weapon, they might not need to worry too much about swords and knife (especially when their physical speed are much greater than both the twins and matrix infiltrators). However, the ability to faze does also create opportunities to escape as we saw in the highway scene, where the twin got fazed out of the car. The ability to just shift host body is more practical in a world with billions of host bodies.

Fun fact: With the Asian fight scene, they wanted the one and only Jet Li, but he refused because they had to capture his entire body as a CG model, and he didn't want them to have the ability to use him in the future without his permission, or recreate him in any way in any other projects (as they did with the new Star Wars, for example, when they completely CGed the dead actor, since the tech is good enough now that you can re-create entire actors fairly decently (it's called a 'CG double')). Very wise of Jet, though it would have been good for his career if he had been in this film!

"Why not kill them?" I always interpreted their survival and creation of Zion as another form of control over eventual One. The One's love for humanity, as embodied by the rebels he's come to know, is what controls the One to the point that they choose to reboot. But now, apparently, Neo's love is too overpowering/overwhelming that he can't let it go and do the "better" thing for humanity.

The "scale of ridiculousness" of that fight scene is exactly the kind of thing that happens in a lucid dream in a similar "action" sequence. At some point your focus gets to an even higher level of awareness, and then you start flying and controlling the weather or whatever, and noticing and reacting to everything that happens. It's like a blur of like when you get in a zone when gaming and when you fly in a fully aware lucid dream. But the step by step, incremental escalation of what Neo did is very similar to when you're lucid in a dream, and you come up against an impossibility, but because you know you're dreaming, you think to yourself, "Nope," and choose to take even more control of the dream and make possible the impossible. It's here where you start verging on completely waking up, but it's such a cool feeling, and this scene reminds me so much of it.

In the Burly Man Fight, while it's getting more and more ridiculous, the movie seems self-aware at how ridiculous ot is, which is where those sound effects come in. They help emphasize how ridiculous it is so that the viewer isn't taken out of the scene by the ridiculousness, but instead rides along with it. Listening to the Philosopher's commentary on the Ultimate edition really helped me appreciate this and the next sequel more. The way they explore how each realm or factions of the franchise, all THREE realms, Matrix, representing the Mind, the real world, representing the Body and the machine world/programs representing the human Spirit (of invention and creativity and legacy) and how they co-exist and interact. Also that Neo is not just a being of both the Matrix and the real world, but of all three, because the machines programmed the abilities of the One into him, so he is a creature of all three realms, And once he connects to the Source, the Machine world 's connection to the Matrix, he's able to influence the machine's and their codes. That Neo sees programs from the machine world as golden light (ala Seriph) shows how they are not of the Matrix, and is relevant to the sequel.That's why I think "Matrix in a Matrix" theory so many fans wanted to happen is kinda lame and a bit trite. Also, while that dance scene IS too long, it is also some foreshadowing for how Neo will chose Trinity alone over the entirety of Zion as a group. He already made that choice, now he has to understand it.

This trilogy took a lot of inspiration from hindu philosophy the writers told that in an interview and also when neo fights with agent in final battle the soundtrack is Asto ma sadgamaya (sanskrit shlok) which means please disconnect me from this illusionary world

How have some of you guys NOT seen The Matrix sequels? I personally love the sequels, much like Eric does. Personally I think the Matrix franchise got me interested in philosophy. It's kinda funny that Hugo went from Smith in the first film. To Elrond in all 3 LOTR films. Back to Smith for this and Revolutions

A lot of the scenes in this film go over the heads of persons who didn’t play online FPS games in the late 90s. We would often get script kiddies coming into open servers in games like ‘Quake’, or ‘Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II’, and they would first subtly hack the game to their advantage…until they were caught, at which point they’d do things like fill the map with ‘clones’ of their own character, or they would start randomly rebuilding the level in the midst of a game. The ‘Matrix’ films get a great deal of their imagery from that kind of stuff. At the time, those of us who were into that scene and were in our teens to early-20s got a special kick out of the familiarity of a scene like the one in which Neo fights an entire army of Smiths.

It's funny how some people crap all over Matrix 2 and 3 yet these movie's were very successful!!! The box-office for Matrix 2 was $738,576,929 dollars. I understand that the Architect scene lost some people but it was interesting because it was different. The first was the BEST but i enjoyed 2 and 3 in the theater very very much along with the audience. I remember it was jam packed at the movies so much fun!!!

Jet Li didn't pull out because he asked for as much money as Keanu, it was because they wanted to digitally scan his moves and techniques into a computer to user for future projects after Jet Li helped come up with the routine for the fight and he said no to that as his fighting was his artform and felt it should belong to him.

29:32 Rick: "The two main action scenes were spectacular." Exactly. I'd also say the Seraph duel is excellent, if short. They committed hard to maxing out what you can do inside the Matrix in this 2nd one. And that's the magic. If you can get caught up in that, then I think this movie generally works.

I freaking loved all the meta video game references and jokes throughout this movie, I hope to god that one of the big video game studios out there don’t just tease us with the Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 demo and actually give us a giant open world Uncharted style action game.🤞🤞 Also I loved that the new human city IO actually works together with AI’s who defected because they didn’t want to hurt humans. So many people want to believe that if machines became self aware they would immediately hunt us all down, but I believe that just like humans there are bad ones AND good ones.
