Got to hand it to Mauser, there is just something about their designs which is so sleek no matter what they make. I especially love those grooves on the slide (wtf are they actually called?) how they protrude out and are in the shape of the Mauser logo. I love the way the button to disengage the safety looks and feels. I love the way the back is circular, reminiscent of a bolt action rifle. Even the markings are so clean and crisp and the font choice is so elegant. I have a 1934 example of this gun myself and I love it. I especially enjoy the fact that Mauser put all the effort they would into a rifle, into this little handgun.

In the summer time I carry a Walther P22. It's light and accurate, a .22 stinger will still do some damage without having to worry about a pass through, and mine is the "Tactical" model so it still looks all scary and intimidating. However in the winter I carry my 1911 because I can conceal it under my coat and with everyone wearing heavy winter clothing i want to be able to punch through it.

North Florida Gun Guy .32 is good for small and thin guys with low hand power and recoil is easy can be shot rapidly best for close range defence. But the pistol should be smooth with saftey should be easily cocked and kept also kept decocked loaded and one hand operated like this one.

I've found .32ACP to be pretty close to .380 for penetration into wood with ball ammo. I load my own and usually keep them pretty light so I don't wear out my own Mauser 1914 but there's plenty of space in the cartridge if I wanted to warm them up within reasonable limits.

I grew up with my Dad owning this little gun. In fact, it was my first carry pistol when I became interested in firearms. It's funny as my Dad never knew how to disassemble it until I was cleaning it one day and suddenly, as the slide jumped forward with the barrel out, I went further. History; ...my Dad bought this gun for $50 from his cousin who took it from a German officer during an escape from a detention camp in Poland during WWII. Much later we had a gun shop owner trace this gun back to the original German officer who was missing in action, so to speak. During the 1980's my Dad transferred ownership to me and I still carry it today, among other pistols. I shoot a range of 32 cal loads up to Critical Defense, 127 gr, and this gun loved the Winchester Silver Tips, no longer in production. This is a prized weapon and I hope to pass it on to my nephew.

Love the gun. Not gonna lie, it has a very... ominous, German look to it; which I love. In the hand it feels very much like a Walther PPK. Same kind of finish and bulk that you'd expect in a larger gun but chambered in .32 ACP. Also, the sights on both guns are what you'd expect to find on a much larger gun, very clean and defined. Whatever you want to say about the caliber, this gun and the Walther are a cut above the rest and in my opinion are capable of competing with the bigger boys just fine. Mauser really does have superb quality standards so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I have a question and I'm not sure about it. You guys seem to know a lot about firearms. My question is. I want to get a hunting license, and I plan on hunting deer, moose, and other medium sized game native to Maine. What would be a good caliber for doing so, and what would be a good kind of beginner's rifle/shotgun that fires it. Preferably one that isn't too heavy on the wallet. Thank you!
@Easiermarlin338 жыл бұрын
If you are planing on hunting med/lrg game I would go with a 30 caliper option (such as .308 and .30-06) Ruger and Savage have some inexpensive poly-stocked bolt action rifles in the 30 caliper range. Also check out the Mosin Nagant if your purely worried about cost, the ammo it fires is sometimes as cheap as .20¢ a round, how ever "its trigger feels like pulling a piano across a gravel road" (Alex, TFBTV). These are just some suggestions take them with a grain of salt, happy hunting. - Easier

You have so many wonderful choices, that it is hard to know where to begin. Do you want something for now, or do you want something you might pass on to a grandchild? do you want an inexpensive auto loader like an sks chambered in 7.62x39? Do you want a surplus bolt action rifle like a Mauser k98-yugo m48, Moison Nagant, or Swiss K31? Do you want a bolt action new out of the box like a Winchester model 70, that you can grow into? Do you want something like the Browning BAR or Benelli R1 because recoil is a concern. I am only scratching the surface, there are so many choices I have left out like shotguns with rifled slug barrels, but the most important thing to do is not worry about the bells and whistles or things like moa and get a rifle that fits you, that you can maintain and rely on. and that is chambered in reliable ammunition you can afford to practice with.

my dad has a 1934 pocket pistol (it's basically the same as the 1914). It is great, lots of nifty features and cool internals. Mag release is horrible though. It is surprisingly accurate too 20 metres you can get 2nd generation ipod touch sized groups. (it sounds dumb but that is the exact size of the group). My dad got it off my 'uncle' (probably more like great uncle) who had stolen it from the Germans either during or shortly after the war, it came with its two mags in the original holster. Sadly there is some bad corrosion on some components but it still shoots fine, my dad also had a new holster made as the old one is too fragile to use. My uncle also had a luger (with mags and holster again) which he had got in exchange for some German binoculars but sadly this was stolen before my dad could get it.
