Lebron can get you rings Luka couldn't get a ring even with Kyrie. With how the current CBA has been structured players are going to be the victim of these kind of trades. Luka to be paid 70 million albeit after 2 seasons is a huge risk Mavs were not willing to take when there is no exit options for the owners unlike in NFL or MLB. We have seen what happens when a player signs a huge contract (Joel Embid) and doesn't play because he is perennially injured the team suffers. Going forward a team may not offer full max extension unless the players agree to non-guaranteed years.

The new NBA salary levels, and the apron, are making franchises blink. My issue with Luka as a player has always been his overuse, and how teams can focus on him in the playoffs, wear him down defensively, and make the rest of the team beat you, but that's something resolved with coaching (and he got them really far). Maybe he couldn't be coached. We know what A.D. is, which is great. When he plays.
