Love this vintage footage. "The Maya are still with us today." Very important. Great doc!

8:20 - The astronomers of the maya had a concept of time that would not be matched by our own civ until the 1800s..... obviously! all this stuff was built by the europeans in the 1800s. That's why "their" concept of time matches so perfectly.

“A reservoir of Indian culture” it’s interesting to see that in the 1970s they were still using the term Indian as if Columbus was correct in believing this was India.

The Maya never disappeared. Their descendants, culture & languages are still alive & well. Granted this is an old video but I Wish they’d update all the incorrect schlock they put out there. Colonizer history & reporting is incorrect history & reporting. Everything Mexico is best known for comes from the contributions of indigenous peoples & their artisans who have been on this continent since BC.

Some towns in Guatemala do not speak any Spanish at all and are majority Mayan.

Colonizer history is not incorrect history. It's from the colonizers point of view, but it's not incorrect. I have a hunch that that opinion is from cultural anthropology. In the field of history it's not looked at that way.
