If Thor wasn’t worthy to be the Asgardian King because he’s drunk and fat, then Valkyrie is wayyyyy less worthy because she’s drunk and killed innocent people. And the worst part is that since the characters (more like Taika and the Russos) considered Valkyrie’s track record of slavery to be in the past, they just forgave her and pretended that her crimes never exist. At least Wanda have someone calling her out (albeit too little). Valkyrie has none.

It's ironic how much Thor was hurt by Marvel's debilitating need to be constantly cracking jokes, because great comedy comes from contrasting personalities clashing in ways that feel natural, not every single character being the same kind of snarky douchebag who's seemingly always practicing his stand-up routine. A faithful portrayal of Thor would have made for a wonderful contrast to so many other characters, and therefore much funnier interactions.
@neodigremo Жыл бұрын
They ended up having only 1 type of comedy towards the end of phase 1. Each character loses the unique style of humour they need. Tony and Spiderman can be quippy, maybe Hawkeye (but even then different flavours can be done with snarky, dry, deadpan or other). Thor, if he needs to be funny, can provide humour from the oddity of a genuine godlike being being in a normal world.

Literally the ''Shakespeare in the park? Dost mother know you weareth her drapes?'' Scene in The Avengers was so funny because it's a 21st century billionaire playboy showman meeting a 1500 year old Norse ''God'' who's super serious. So yes, it's exactly as you say. After lossing his mother, father, brother, his home and half of his people, he should have been a very depressed guy. And it should have been followed up with Hulk and Racoon trying to convince to return back with Thor trying to attack them and leading to the avengers base where rest of the crew tries to stop him. While Tony works on the time machine..it should have ended with Tony saying the can undo the Thanos snap and Thor rejoining Avengers only for the sake of taking revenge on Thanos. the source material wasn't written with the same care and depth tolkien novels are. comics literally come from low quality pulp fiction. no one in real life is going to talk like characters do in the comics. even if there is some concept or idea that Thor was supposed to represent, it likely is something that is irrelevant today (such as how iron man represents american exceptionalism in the cold war). the serialised format is also fundamentally different owing to differing lengths and how impactful each plot beat must be. barring Thor 4, Thor is exactly as he should be in the MCU.

The MCU Thor problem, much like problem with any project based on an existing IP that doesn't live up to its source material, is they keep hiring ignorant, dispassionate people to handle these movies. Not to point fingers, but you all guessed who I'm talking about. It's not even a question if the filmmakers are preexposed to the source material. They don't have to be gigafans, but at least their sensibilities have to fit in with the source material they're adapting. If you vibe with something, you can become a fan overnight. Chris Nolan wasn't collecting comic-books as a kid, but his sensibilities fit like a glove for a gritty take on Batman. Waititi's problem isn't that he's a comedy guy. Waititi's problem is that it's all he is. There are no layers to him. You could've done, in theory, a comedic take on Thor that still feels like Thor and can fill in MCU's quota for "it has to be fun or it shouldn't be made"; a Thor movie in the style of Pirates of the Caribbean or the first Hobbit movie. Instead, we got a Thor movies that are Thor movies in name only and could've been about any other MCU character, since there is nothing distinctly Norse or mythic about them. Thor doesn't act like Thor, characters from Thor's iconography barely appear or resemble what they're supposed to be, there are no grand adventures across mythic realms, there is no sense of verisimilitude, no earned drama, nothing. It's quite sad now that to the general audience the default image of Thor is a bumbling fool who speaks in plain Modern English and treats inanimate objects better than he does The Warriors Three and Sif.

Fat Thor isn’t even mythologically accurate. The idea a God who eats and drinks like a dumpster, must also be as fat as the mere mortals who also eat and drink like dumpsters completely misses the point of mythology and divine idealization. The concept also completely ignores all primary sources we have on Thor specifically, who’s described as powerfully built, and zero mention of being fat. So Fat Thor pisses me off twofold. For missing the point of the comics, and for bastardizing the mythology said comics are based on.

Everything was well in the workd- Waititi released Jojo Rabit too and was introduced to more commercial as well as critical success. The thing about Waititi though is he is a man of morals. He knows what he believes in and he isnt afraid to say that. Cut to Love and Thunder. Hemsworth was sooo into promoting the movie and talking it up- until the movie came out and the backlash came out. Hemswroth immediately backtracked and began throwing Waititi under the bus blaming him for the “messages” etc. Hemsworth killed his only relationship with a powerful/demanded/critically acclaimed director for the sake of not having a spine and sticking up for the film he made (he couldve just said “you know some people dont like it but i enjoyed myself and i like it regardless”). Hemsworth has killed any future for critical success as well. No serious director is going to hire him after seeing him throw a “good friend” director under the bus. I really did like the 2nd Loki series which was in a multiverse - a different Loki, and they state right off it is a multiverse and a different "variant" Loki. So I can divide it, and in fact, it reminded me more of Dr Who, which is gone now, so I guess I have to take my Dr Who where I can find it. If you watch the 1st Loki series, one of the Lokis says he DOES get away from Thanos by using illusion. He teaches the protagonist Loki how to more fully explore his power and how many more illusion powers he has. In other words, the Loki that comes to that series does not have a full understanding of his power yet and is taught them - time control, mind enchantment, etc, by the many versions of himself he runs into. The Loki he runs into says, We are far more powerful than we realize. A fun concept. I think the female Loki is meant to be a concept of the Enchantress - not a very good casting choice - while a good fighter and excellent enchanter, she is a complete failure as a person and is the one responsible for destroying everything through her insatiable and selfish desire for revenge. So she is broken and Loki has to fix the mess she makes. Now, according to ancient Norse myths, Loki was NOT the god of evil. He was a trickster, and he did some nasty things, but he was a helpful god who understood things didn't need to be done forthrightly all the time. People would pray for help in financial deals and such. The other gods would turn to him for help when they needed some streetwise help. He got the other gods out of many problems, which is why he was considered Odin's friend. He only became "evil" in the Christian era when he gathered the identity of the devil.

The most ridiculous thing was how many times Thor is electrocuted. First by Darcy’s taser. I understand that he had lost this powers then, but in reality, a man the size of Hemsworth can shake off even a cop’s taser. Certainly not be knocked unconscious for hours while he is strapped down in a hospital bed, wearing a hospital gown. He didn’t wake up through all that from one zapped from a consumer grade taser to the god of thunder? Then Valkyrie shocked him a zillion times and knocked his ass out. Not really a god of thunder? Before the fan boys repeat Taika’s retcon excuse that it was a neurotoxin, not electricity, that’s a lie. That was only after it was pointed out how stupid and wrong it is for a man who channels lightning bolts, which are more powerful than an atomic bomb, can be electrocuted by a tiny disk on his neck, like a dog’s shock collar. It was not intended to be a neurotoxin. If so, then Taika didn’t do his homework because everyone thought it was electricity until he gave his bad excuse and fan boys lapped it up. He should have known that no neurotoxin makes static and crackling noises. Neurotoxin don’t make human nervous system sudden shake the same way a body would with electricity. Take a large dose of oxycodone and you will just go to sleep. Take the same dose of fentanyl and you will go to sleep and never wake up. That’s how most nerve agents work. I know of none that make someone shake like that and neither does anyone else because everyone thought it was electricity after seeing the movie. When you use electric noises and have the actor shake like being electrocuted, that’s what the audience will think and will laugh that the demigod of thunder and lightning can be electrocuted. Taika should just admit he made a mistake and wasn’t thinking or reading the comics at all, that’s because Taika has no respect for the character or comic and made the movie he wanted. Even a seizure is not as violent as electrocution. Seizures have larger muscle jolting, where an electrocution makes every small muscle jerk very quickly, like the way Hemsworth did in Ragnarok. The MCU hates Thor. I don’t know why they even decided to use him as an Avenger if he was going to only be the butt end of everyone’s jokes? I only got a bit excited during Infinity War during the second half of the movie. Thor’s scene with a CGI raccoon happened to be one of the best scenes they ever gave Hemsworth to give Thor some depth. His reveal on the Wakanda battlefield was the pinnacle of Thor in the MCU. It made me excited for Endgame, actually wanting to believe that they would take Thor into a dark place, but not the fat surrender ass we got, it someone on a path more like Ronan. Why’s is it that Hawkeye gets a better depression actions more interesting than Thor. Imagine Thor going that dark and the damage he could do, but only if they gave him the real Thor power like in the comics? Thor would not give up and get fat. Thor should have wanted retribution, so when he got a chance to finally face a Thanos, he should have been a much greater foe for Thanos than Captain America. Fat Thor was funny for about a minute. Thor’s powers are magical, he shouldn’t have to work out to get strong. Does Superman have to do reps at the local gym to stay buff? It would make more sense for Hawkeye to get fat. He’s just a human and lost his entire family. Thor isn’t human, he shouldn’t get fat. When I saw that first scene, I thought that once they told him they could get another shot at Thanos, he’d call down lightning and Boom! He’d be chiseled Hemsworth once again. Nope, we were stuck with fat Thor for the entire movie. That sucked for Thor fans. Yours right, he was just a menace on the battlefield. When Captain America has to save your ass, you’re not much of a superhero. Thor should have been able to at least hurt Thanos, even with his bare hands. They destroyed Thor in Endgame. Tony said it right calling him the big Labowski, because that’s what Thor became. He’d have been more at home in movie The Big Lebowski. I was so disappointed when I came out of the theater after Endgame and hearing everyone else excited about how good it was. Endgame sucked. I thought for sure they would let Thor do the snap? Why not? He was the one who felt responsible for allowing Thanos to snap everyone away. His redemption arc would be snapping everyone back, even if he died doing it. I would have rather had Thor go out a boss, like Tony did, rather than continue on with this pitiful Thor character the MCU has created. They couldn’t even give us that, instead, Banner gets the snap? It may make sense because he’s the strongest, but there is no through-line between Hulk and Thanos. That’s bad storytelling, like Arya killing the a Night King, it made no sense. She had no run-in with the villain until five minutes before she easily killed him. Everyone knows it was supposed to be Jon Snow. What? The Hulk lost one fight with Thanos? Thanos killed Thor’s brother and best friend and Thor had a chance to kill Thanos, but instead decided it torture him for the pain he has caused Thor. Like Thor told Rocket, “what else can I lose”. He was in the depths of despair then and that was before the snap. They didn’t pay off Thor’s best scene in the saga. Big deal, he got to kill weak Thanos, with help from Captain Marvel, of course, in a seen so short that if you stopped to get popcorn you would have missed it. Thor deserved more for everything he had been through. They could have paid off all those crappy Thor movies that came before by letting him do the snap or at least really injure Thanos in the battle, rather than just having his ass handed to him time after time. I’m done with the MCU. They also destroyed Captain America when they turned him into a coward version of Joe Biden. “Screw this world, I’m dancing with Peggy and will use my super soldier endurance to win dance marathons”. Twinkle Toes Ragers was his new name and he and Peggy danced in the police state that Red Skull had created after Hydra took over with their airships that could target any enemies from hundreds of miles. Great job Marvel. At least you didn’t ruin Ironman. Tony got a boss ending, but poor T’Challa got to die offscreen from a virus? That makes no sense, any virus that can take down anyone who drank the purple juice would wipe out their entire nation. He had advanced healing, how can he die for the flu? It wasn’t even some weaponized virus made by an evil madman. That would be too much story for them to deal with, they need to get it over quick and milk whatever tears they could for poor Chadwick. They couldn’t even celebrate the character’s death by making it a sacrifice. What a slap int ej face of Boseman, he deserves better.at least give him a memorable death and go out a hero. Since his uniform covers his entire body, he could have easily been taken out while saving the world, or at least saving Wakanda. The MCU loves giving the characters embarrassing deaths and endings. They have lost it and now it’s going to only be female heroes from now on. If Captain Marvel, with Brie Larson, is the best the MCU can do for a good female superhero, I’m out!

Thor should of snapped everyone back, hell let him snap Asgard back and have him lose his arm to have segue into Thor 4 where Jane takes up the hammer like the lady Thor comics. I was okay with the idea of Thor falling into depression after everything that happened but making it a big joke (+ with him being fat) just came across as shitty all around.

I think casual audiences like myself just liked Ragnarok because we enjoyed it for what it was, blissfully unaware of what it could have been. I think that's okay, as long as audiences like those remain open-minded to the source material, and understand the perspectives of long-time audiences. I liked many films on first watch, but knowing what I do now, I can feel a good deal of disappointment that more wasn't done.

I wish they would've got Malaketh more true to his comic version! I would LOVE to see a Live Action Movie based on the several issue Thor storyline that's called "WAR of the REALMS"! If you haven't read ut yet, I highly suggest that everyone should check it out! Bc it also involves a LOT of Marvel Superheroes on Thor's side & a lot of Villians on the other side! The Battles Break out throughout ALL of the 9 REALMS with a lot of Casualties on both sides by the time the WAR is over. If Disney/MCU would get the RIGHT Director that would stay TRUE to the Source Story, then Disney/MCU should let the people make the movie that EVERY FAN will LOVE!

Honestly, they got rid of Asgard too quickly. Ragnarok should have been a much later movie. MCU should’ve stuck with the comics stuff. They should have had Hela be Loki’s daughter like she is in both Comics and Mythology. Let Hela rule the land of the dead, where she’s at her most powerful at. They should’ve replaced Hela with Angela. Like Angela is Odin’s first born; so why not have the movie about her and the realm she grew up in. Which brings me to the topic of how the MCU forgot to add many other asgardian characters such as Amora the Enchantress and Balder.

I’m only now realizing Thor 4 should’ve been Thor settling the power vacuum left by the destruction of asguard and the snap. You could even include the guardians seeing as they’d be after the same goal. It could also easily tie into a Thor 5 (which if they HAD TO they could’ve used gorr)

I came up with my own idea of what the first Thor film could have been: Overall, this version would be a lot more colourful. The film opens with the scene of the frost giants war with the Asgardians, replacing the scene where Thor lands on earth. We saw a more saturated Asgard, with flora interwoven with the architecture and an actual rainbow bridge. Thor (who wears his helmet a lot more in this film) is seen hanging out in the kingdom with Lady Sif and the Warriors Three. Loki, the god of mischief and Thor’s (step) brother, has grown ambitious and jealous of his brother and his (step) father Odin. Wanting to be rid of his brother, Loki casts an illusion depicting a sudden infiltration by the Frost Giants into Asgard (which we don’t find out about until later). Whilst the All-Father calls for no immediate action, an arrogant and impatient Thor and pals travel by Bifrost to the realm of Jotunheim, launching a unwarranted attack against Laufey and his people, just as Loki wanted. When Odin arrives, Thor heralds the arrival of Asgardian might, however, Odin calls out his son’s foolish actions. Weighing his options, the All-Father decides to banish Thor to Midgard, stripping him of the power of Mjölner. The sudden and unexpected trip from the Bifrost causes Thor to gain amnesia. After walking up on Midgard, the god of thunder, now reduced to a mere mortal, is unable to remember his name, eventually adopting the alias Donald Blake. Thor, or Donald Blake, ends up living in the state of New Mexico for the next few weeks. Meanwhile in Asgard, Loki discovers he was actually a Frost Giant, taken away by Odin during the war between Jotunheim and Asgard. Realising this, Loki now has a new goal to take over Asgard. The All-Father goes into his Odin Sleep shortly there after, leaving the throne open. Back on Midgard, or Earth, Donald Blake has started making a quiet, peaceful life for himself in a small New Mexico town. It was here where he met a nurse name Jane Foster, and the two soon began dating. Around this time, after floating around Space for a while after being thrown into the Bifrost by Odin, Mjölnir lands on Earth. As Loki is making preparations to at last seize the throne, he discovers that Mjölner has ended up on Midgard, also learning that Thor is there as well. Wanting to eliminate a threat to his plans, he sends an enchanted set of sentient armour known as the Destroyer to kill his brother. When the armour arrives in his small town, Donald Blake sees the Destroyer and runs away in terror, thinking only of himself. When he looks back, he sees Jane terrified on the floor, the Destroyer standing over her. Blake’s humility over comes him and he quickly rushes over to help his girlfriend, briefly fending off the Destroyer with a large branch. The two leave the town as the Destroyer continues to ravage it. As Jane and Donald drive out of town, the hammer begins calling to Donald. They drove up to a cliff overlooking the crater in which Mjölnir sits, surrounded by S.H.I.E.L.D soldiers. Fighting his way through, Donald grasps the hammer and managed to lift it, causing lighting to envelop him. Jane watches as Thor regains his mirrors, his armour and helmet forming around him Thor quickly takes Jane back to town, flying through the air, ready to face the Destroyer. After defeating the Destoyer, Thor calls upon the Bifrost, leaving Jane behind as he returns to Asgard. When he returns, he comes back to see his kingdom being ravaged by the Frost Giants, all part of Loki’s scheme to achieve power. Fighting through the hoard, Thor challenges Laufey, who kindly accepts. Fighting across the Kingdom and onto the Rainbow Bridge, Thor defeats Laufey. This fight however is soon followed by Loki attacking, using his magic to duplicate and fight his brother. The fight ends with Loki falling off the bridge into the void, presumably to his death.

Superman is far from always good and never changes, that is the crux of Superman II - also you suggest that Superman never faces temptation but that also is the core message of Superman vs The Elite, he literally makes a speech about it, and mentions it as frustrating when he goes all out on Darkseid in the finale episode of JLU. Here's my take on how Thor should have been handled all together: For starters, Thor's origin movie would follow what you mentioned (young Thor earning the worthiness to wield Mjollnir) along side developing the Asgardians (including Enchantress and Loki as possible inner threats to Asgard). Reserving Thor's arrival for The Avengers, along side introducing Jane Foster as a paramedic during the New York battle. In Thor 2, the story would follow Loki's evil scheme to rule Asgard by inciting a war against the dark elves, leading Malekith and Kurse The Aether on Earth, forcing Thor to chase after them along side his Asgardian friends to fend off the attack. This would, in turn, leave the Enchantress open to attack asgard from inside, allowing Loki to pull his mischievous plan to betray the dark elves, "sacrificing" his life to sneak on to the throne and rule asgard while Thor is away dealing with conflicts on Earth (or across the nine realms). I would scrap Ragnarok, in favor of a battle for Asgard, introducing Baldr for the first time, and making him the one to signal Thor and company back to Asgard, this would develop Thor and Baldr's bond and trust, while giving Loki and Enchantress development as they attempt to retain their rule of asgard. In a stunning turn of events, Loki would make his attempt to escape, but not before revealing the big bad Thanos on fast approach for the space stone. The sudden use of the stone, along side the clash between Loki and Thor would open a worm hole that teleports them both to a remote location. In Infinity War, Thanos makes his majestic arrival, as the brothers try to make sense of where they landed. Thanos arriving will mirror Thor's arrival on Earth, signifying his presence and power out the gate. While the brothers make a temporary truce to fight together, Loki betrays Thor and puts him in the line of fire, ultimately weakening him and placing him at the mercy of the mad titan. But it turns into a double ruse, where Loki attempts to take advantage of the situation and the power of the tesseract to overcome Thanos, but ultimately fails as he sees through his deception, and rips the space stone from Lokis hands. With the space stone in hand, Thor (having his bearings in order) attempts to attack the mad titan, but is rendered powerless and is knocked unconscious, diverting his full attention to the god of mischief. After another botched attempt from Loki, though proving effective at first, Thanos uses the space stone and pulls the god into his open palm, strangling the last breath of the wicked deity and leaving the thunderer where he lays, as his plan is bigger and more important than any being within the cosmos. This would set up Thor's encounter with the Guardians, and send him on his revenge quest, though some more details will be needed.

Technically the purpose of Thor’s helmet was used for a ceremony it was not designed for battle. Also, Chris Hemsworth hated the helmet that’s why he didn’t use it in the first Thor movie. There is also something else I would like to add and that is that, modern actors are a bunch of pussies, they are so comfortable and refuse to go thru any hardship, if you look at behind the scenes stuff on lord of the rings, there are stories of actors breaking bones and still pushing through, there is blood and sweat that went into that trilogy, hemsworth being a lazy fuck when it comes to wearing the helmet is a perfect representation of modern actors, they refuse to go thru anything at all, they are way to comfortable and can’t go anywhere without their assistants, it’s no wonder why so many modern movies suck absolute balls, the people that make them refuse to go thru any hardship or struggle

Thor should have snapped instead of Hulk and lost his arm. Thor felt like a failure because he did not stop the Snap when he could have. Hulk should have fought Thanos and become professor hulk. Hulk lost his friends and couldn't protect them because he wouldn't let Banner help him. Thor, now depowered legitimately, could join the fight against Thanos, but can't keep up, queue Banner watching Thanos almost kill Thor which brings out the Hulk finally. However Hulk still struggles against Thanos, and you have a nice quick scene where Banner is yelling at Hulk internally on how to beat Thanos. Hulk makes a deal with Banner, the deal is Hulk wants to WIN this fight, BAM Professor Hulk. Thor then could "retire" as an Avenger and take over as King of Asgard, and Hulk gets the much deserved rematch AND end his arc nicely as well. Lay down some hints that Thor and Hulk could return later down the line. I am one man and I did the work of an entire writing department.

I remeber one guy, i forget who but this isnt my idea, but a completely different route with New Asguard and post killing Thanos Thor. That he becomes very protective of Asguard and essentially turns New Asguard into a fortress. Every Asgardian has turned into a warrior to protect New Asguard from anything. Thor has seen Asguard destroyed with a number of its people killed, only to be cut in half by Thanos so he becomes very overprotective and isolated from the Avengers. Sif even comes back to help (i forget what point he made with this but where the hell did she go between movies) And the final end point of this is he doesnt abandon New Asguard to give to not valkyrie to make her the new king, but so he can find them a better home instead of essentially conquering a part of earth for Asguard. He's still a king, he is just temporally going somewhere else.

Imagine a ”grounded” (horror) and character driven Hulk movie which focus on the hell it must be to live in a Jekyll/Hyde relationship with oneself where CGI is there to support (not drive) the story and show what destruktionen can come from his powers.

Today is the *1* year anniversary of when "The MCU Thor Problem - Full Series" was uploaded! It's a shame how the MCU fumbled the bag when it comes to Thor. Even if Marvel were to clean up Thor like the fans and Chris Hemsworth himself *probably* want, it would still be too late! The damage is already done. 🤓➡️😓

Disney has managed to take superhero movies and make them dumb again. Like Warner did with the 80s Swamp Thing movies.

Infinity war actually tried to make thor cool

I agree with everything. I will say tho you should watch Loki. The first season isn’t like super good. But season 2 is much better. Loki starts actually using his real powers and the ending is a banger

Totally agree with this, Loki Season 2 shocked me by not only being way better than season 1, but also by how genuinely brilliant it was

@@mr.moviemafiaI not agree. Loki S1 was good, but the second season was a SJW trash. Made only to kill off the main character again and replace with Enchantress. So sad 😢

I remember before Infinity War thinking that Thor was a B tier hero with B tier powers because of how terribly he was portrayed. Then, when he went crazy in Infinity War, I was in genuine shock at how powerful he was. Just goes to show you how terribly they adapted Thor and it is such a shame because of how cool he is.

The MCU never cared about the Source material. That sin was always going to result in franchise failure.

Omg I've always hated that like from Odin "we are not gods". Uhh yeah tf you are? Y'all even say as much in future movies like in Ragnarok when Thor calls himself the god of thunder, and Loki calls himself the god of mischief in infinity war. I'm sure there's more instances of them saying these things but I can't remember them at the moment, anyway it's just stupid to say they aren't gods when they definitely are

The writers don't know if they want to write them as serious gods or jokes. I mean what type of god gets knocked out by a taser especially when he's supposed to be the god of thunder.
