I'm a line haul towboat captain on the Mississippi River and it's tributaries. It's so much more than a job, this is a way of life and it takes a special woman to love a man like me. To me and my wife this song is about the weeks I spend on a boat all in northern states while she patiently waits my return in deep south Mississippi.

This song really hits home for me as a truck driver. Ask any driver and they will tell you the hardest part of the job isn’t the miles or the hours or the backing. It’s leaving home and telling your family that you won’t be home for awhile.

That sounds just like being on the road with the band. Leaving home is the hardest part.

Thank you for writing this song. It’s power has reached far and wide. It’s my 3 year old’s favourite song. Every night before bed we sing either “gambler” or “coldin weather.” The only two songs he cares about. Thanks from Australia 🇦🇺

Thank you for this song, i just loved this the first time I heard it. I’m lover but he’s a runner He’s a ramblin man And has a gypsy soul, these described him and makes me sad maybe I’m not going to expect that we will have happy ending 🙂

There’s one thing I love most about this interview - and it the raw honesty. I’ve been a HUGE fan of the ZBB, but somehow this is the first time I’ve actually analyzed this song. I was left by the mother of my child out of nowhere, randomly, and as a singer myself, it’s amazing how healing someone else’s words regarding a similar topic can be. Thank you for creating this masterpiece. It’s. I’d 5:30am and I’m learning how to play in on guitar 😂🙏❤️

As a ramblin man (I dont tend to stay in one place long) and a string of lovers, this song resonates so much, I'm pretty sure I'm a runner, they were lovers! And the gyspy soul is within me, I just need to find my gypsy lady who likes to run with me!

Just an incredible song. I live in Indiana and am an avid skier so this always reminds me of my trips out west - I can close my eyes and see the mountains. I always thought it was Lincoln, Nebraska - so cool it is Montana. I am headed there on Sunday for my last ski week this season. Well done gents and thanks for the song.

To me the song 🎶 reminds me of my dad growing up till he passed away. Nov 2021 .. I always wanted more attention n affection from my father n even after having my kids I thou he’d come around more , not just for holidays or birthdays.. but more 😔 when I tried one Christmas asking what he’d be over ; he spat at me on the phone ., like how dare I ask what time he be over.. my kids had other relatives to see of course .. n he never showed up for them or me that Christmas 🎄 at all. It hurt so much being a single parent w kids n knowing he put he ego n attitude first over his own grandchildren. That was 3 yrs ago .. n he can’t take that memory or the hurt away .. I don’t even know if he ever truly loved me or not after how I was treated as a kid myself n adult.. so that song hits hard for me . A daughter should never question her worth to a parent ever!! Nov will never be the same .. now he’s in colder weather 😔

I already loved this song, got chills nearly every time I heard it. Then one night I got to the line “with your ghost again” and it occurred to me, oh God, she’s dead. He’s pining after a girl he used to see when he came through town and now she’s not there. It was an epiphany that changed the entire meaning for me. And then of course, once you’re seeing it that way, then you get to “…and I know soon we’ll be together, and I can’t wait til then” and you wonder if he’s so broken up that she’s gone, he’s considering the unthinkable, just to be with her again. The video shows this wasn’t the idea behind it but wow, layers, man. Like ogres and onions.
@TristanandIsolt9 ай бұрын
That's not the meaning that Wyatt and Levi intended. The words you're referring to were added by Zac if I understand correctly. I 100% get the same idea as you based on the video.

The song certainly started out as a break up song for Wyatt, but the video absolutely implies suicide. I'm with your ghost again. It's a shame about the weather. I know soon we'll be together and I can't wait til then.
