I had been looking for the Truth and Good that Swedenborg brings to light my whole life too! In fact - though my life is beautiful and my past pain is becoming my power - If my husband and I knew about Swedenborg and raised our children in this tradition rather than some church or anothet - we would have a life time of the deepest fulfillment here and in eternity! I don't believe we would have separated. I found Swedenborg soon after my husband died.

@@offTheLeftEye I seems that we are pawns in an elaborate game and that we are expected to know the rules of life but it seems to me that most of us will not get into heaven because that was never part of God's plan. I often wonder what happens to victims of murder and other and wars as their lives are brought to an end so abruptly what happens to their spirits.

Thank you so much Kurtis and crew. This channel has been a clear manifestation of the saying : " when the student is ready, the teacher shows up". I have been struggling through almost two years of one calamity after another including my mother's death after a.battle.with cancer and a lot of questions. I grew up in a communist country therefore.forced.secular society but always knew deep down that God existed albeit either hated me or didn't care. Otherwise, why was my life so hard? There have been times of anger but recently I have started to realize that things are more complicated than that and certain things have been at least partially explained. This show has been a great help in my quest for knowledge and understanding. Thank you for what you do. God bless!

That we have fallen and the will has been destroyed according to Swedenborg it is comforting for me to know what he taught about regeneration. It is a daily ongoing process and conviction to do good can only be given gradually over the course of a whole lifetime and beyond. Get back to where you once belonged. Great job,topic, and show.

This was a great video! Many traditional Bible believers might not understand these videos because of how different these views seem to be, but to me a strong indicator of how true something is spiritually is about how it convicts the person who hears. Curtis,thank you first of all. At first I had a little trouble,but when I stopped and read the quotes,your commentary made sense. I would like to respond to what I read and heard....it broke my heart more and more as I see how mankind is less heavenly and more self centered. I know that the last part was suppose to be hopeful,I'm sorry I just can not seem to get past "the fall". When I hear what man had,that closeness to Jehovah,to ourselves in respect to Jehovah and how it was lost,I truly weep for all of us,man,woman,child.Not only them,but for every beast of the field,every bird,every fish,even all the crawling animals all of them,why, because we no longer have the love,wisdom,and understanding Adam had,ITS GONE! I long to have that one on one connection with Jehovah to be as Adam once was,to know that love and to have my inner self know my outer self,to be able to unlock the wisdom and knowledge stored there,it's kinda like having a scratch you can't get to.That is how I feel.

What a brilliant channel this is. Thank you Curtis and all at the Swedenborg Foundation. I have a story about 'Adam and Eve' myself. Back in about 1974 I was a young fellow teaching Physics/Maths at my old Catholic Grammar School in London. Every teacher was given a class and had to teach Religious Instruction for lesson One every day. My class were year 7 (a bunch of smart 11-year-old boys). At some point we covered the story of Adam and Eve. We read the chapter and one boy put his hand up and said, "But sir.....it never really happened, did it?" Mmm. I was on the spot. I shrugged a bit and said (probably looking somewhat perplexed), "Maybe we're supposed to work out what it all means", not really having a clue myself what it meant. I went home that evening and dug up a Buddhist creation myth (there was a turtle on the back of an elephant somwhere in it as I remember). I wrote it out and made a copy of the story the next morning for each student. I handed the sheets out and we compared the this with the story of Adam and Eve. Unfortunately for me one of the children took the paper home and left it on his dining table that evening where his father, one Mr Mulligan, picked it up and read it. The next morning he came storming into the Headmaster's office with steam coming out of his ears, "I did not send my son to this school to be turned into a Buddhist!!" he bellowed. I was removed from my religious 'duties'. Deemed to be......umm......well.....unsound. The good (or maybe otherwise) part of the story is that I know for a fact that the boy concerned did become a Catholic Priest. Whether that makes me a failure or a success as a RI teacher is not a question on which I choose to dwell.

And the coolest thing is that I know an angel brought me to your foundation. I used to be deep into paranormal investigating, even a part of a paranormal investigation group. And my life became a true living hell with the doors that I opened. I became obsessed with it. And for two months your show would be at the top of my suggestions on KZbin yet I would not watch it because I was into the other side, not the good things. But I finally decided what the heck let me see what you guys are about. And the very first suggestion and very first episode I ever watched was how to deal with evil spirits. And that's the changing point in my spiritual journey. Shortly after that episode, I buried all of my equipment inside a creek so that if anyone found it, it would be useless. I know how real evil spirits are. They still taunt me and try to re-ignite that obsession, but it's so much easier now to ignore and pray it away. Now I find the Angelic and the holy so much more interesting and my growth has been tremendous since. Swedenborg saved me spiritually then, and continues to (I took a 5 story fall and miraculously lived in November, and am walking---my spirituality throughout the entire ordeal consisted of Angels and God--so everything Swedenborg says REALLY resonates with me). In fact, the doctors are amazed at how quickly I healed and recovered, considering I was on life support with less than a 10% chance of living at the time. In fact, I just had some bracket removed from my back that they said would not be ready to be removed until November, yet my broken back has already healed and it was removed last Monday. I truly feel it's because of all I have learned through Swedenborg that got me through it all, and my faith in God helped me recover so much faster. You guys are doing so much more than you may believe for others with all you do!

Your work is very interesting! I enjoy learning about other perspectives--each perspective gives us further insight. I also want to express my gratitude for you putting this out as a PERSPECTIVE, as interpretations based on Swedenborg's experiences that have many layers and go much deeper, and that it is not doctrine. From my perspective and experience we can gain from interpreting all levels, including the literal level, for the external levels are reflections of the internal levels and since all things are possible, it's very likely it also happened literally as many people believe. There is SO MUCH MORE to the Adam and Eve story...in my view, an Adam for every Eve and vice versa is one of the most sacred gifts God has given humanity and the key to reunion with the Divine.

The bible is literal. Here is my evidence: The Bible was written as a historical narrative all the way through until after the gospels. Jesus took the old testament as literal, the teachers of the law took the bible as literal, and the early church took the bible as literal. In fact, it wasn't until Catholicism that the bible was taken in a non-literal way, and the Catholics added in a bunch of beliefs that are unbiblical, discrediting themselves from being an accurate source of information or biblical interpretation. You believe that the bible was not meant to be taken literally. Where is your evidence?

if we started out spiritually connected to God, why did we choose to break this connection, and then spend so much time trying to regain the connect that we had in the beginning? it seems a waste of energy to keep moving in one big circle. This is the one point that has always confused me? It was a great video. Thank You, Randy
@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Randy! I know it seems hard to fathom, but I find it makes more sense to me if I look at an individual person. That person started out as a infant and little child, content to be completely connected with and dependent on his or her parents. So, why would a person ever want to change that? And the answer is, in order to become an individual, and to make free choices. When someday the child comes back to a relationship with the parents, it will be from a freewill choice, not just because that's the only things the child knows. It seems that the human race wanted to grow up, to experience a sense of self, to make independent choices, and God allowed it because that is a good thing. The innocence of the earliest people and their connection with God was like that of a child. We are now on the rough journey of growing up, making our own decisions, and, according to prophecy, the human race will eventually freely choose a fully conscious, mature partnership with God. Think of a kid growing up, needing to rebel and do things their own way, even though it can get them into messes, so they can truly choose for themselves. We need to be genuinely free to choose God or reject God in order for the choice to be real. All that energy trying things and getting into messes and making mistakes isn't wasted energy if it leads someone to really value and choose the good things in life for themselves. I hope those thoughts are helpful, Randy. It's an excellent question!

As put it is so, but as Swedenborg was informed is how we must for it to go beyond "fresh news straight from heaven" to hearing these truths in ourselves living through God rather than vicariously through a mans works, His work was to show what we may also have not to become a follower of a good man. Truth...if we can not explain it , it is because we have yet to do the work to express what he knew.

Thank you so much 🙏 Is there some literature that’s gives full meaning of the entire Bible?

It's so lovely to hear that your heart was touched in that way, Yaya! Not everybody responds that way to these ideas, so I hope it goes well with your sister. I'm afraid there's no easy answer to your last question. Swedenborg published some 30 volumes of theological writings in his day. The two titles that go through certain parts of the Bible *systematically* are "Secrets of Heaven" and "Revelation Unveiled" -- the first deals with Genesis and Exodus, and second deals with the book of Revelation. Secrets of Heaven is 12-15 volumes long (depending on the translation), and Revelation Unveiled (also called Apocalypse Revealed) is two volumes long. They go verse by verse. It can be very thick going, but there are beautiful gems scattered throughout. As for the rest of his works, most of them have many references to the Bible, giving inner meanings and correspondences in little snippets. It's a lot to find and to digest. Perhaps, while you're warming up to these ideas, you'd like to search our channel for some episodes on the topic. Here's one called "The Meaning of Noah and the Flood" -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGaXgJmmm5dpe80 Here's a short one called "Correspondences in the Bible" -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/moqnnnulZ7qsibM And there are lots about the book of Revelation -- here are just two: "The Meaning of the Book of Revelation: The Four Horsemen" -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHyqk2ClrrWEnsk "Who are the 144,000 in Revelation?" -- kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4WllJ5veZKSjqM Let us know how those feel for you, and feel free to come back and ask for more! I hope so too, YaYa Says. But you never know even what the possibility will do - even if people aren't interested now, it can plant the seed for further study later when they are ready to go deeper. I think we are all on different, profoundly individual journeys, and so we accept and embrace spiritual information at different times and in different ways. So even if she's not into it now, it may spark something in her that helps her find something else down the road! Whatever happens, I hope it brings you closer, and you can bond over the value you have for spiritual truth - even if you find it in different ways! Good luck!

Hey! offTheLeftEye So, I'm watching your Swedenborg videos which are amazing by the way! My praise and thanks and reverence to Curtis. And I'm kind of just allowing the Lord to stretch me, to relative to what I believe and my own interpretation of the Word as well as teachings I've been brought up with. But what I really must ask, is how it is possible that you enter heaven, never having opened a bible, when as a Christian, you're required to be born-again, as well as having accepted Christ into your life as your Lord and Saviour, because it is through him that you enter heaven. I understand, say you die having lived a life of love, never having heard about Jesus, but how does it relate to Muslims and Jews? Also, I can't just trash my bible and live in love alone can I? Please do respond, and clear up some of my confusion, much thanks in advance. Collins Z.

My best friend has been losing his faith so I introduced him to Swedenborg, my pal Dr. Mike is becoming a big fan of the channel and asked me a few questions. I of course will defer to you, so: "Swedenborg says genesis beginning up to Eber is not true history but made up for symbolism of heavenly/spiritual matters...if so how were we created? Does that leave room open more for greater interplay between evolution/science and God."
@offTheLeftEye

Tell Dr. Mike that yes, absolutely, this leaves room open for greater interplay between evolution/science and God, which is very exciting! Take a look at this short "Swedenborg Minute" called "The Future of Science and Spirituality" kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH7UZYGKnrV3gaM Swedenborg learned that the creation of anything is always a process, so, it makes sense that the creation of the universe, and also of every species on our planet, would also have happened through a long process instead of instantaneously.

@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 5 жыл бұрын
@@Michaelmuq Actually, yes! Swedenborg learned that there was an "Ancient Word" that existed before our current Bible that was telling the same inner story, but using different symbolic language and stories. So, that Ancient Word was also foretelling the incarnation of God, long before it actually happened. The knowledge of the inner meanings of that Ancient Word was gradually lost, and people began to understand the text in literal ways instead. The stories gradually altered as they were passed down through different cultures all around the world. That's why someone like Joseph Campbell has noticed a similar theme of "the Hero's Journey" that runs through all world mythologies.

Hi Suman -- Like the story of Adam and Eve, Swedenborg says that the story of Noah as well as the whole book of Revelation are SYMBOLIC, not anything that actually happened in history. I wouldn't use the word "fake," but they are not historic fact. They use the power of story and symbol and correspondence to describe our inner, spiritual development, and also different spiritual stages for the whole human race. That's what Swedenborg learned about them!

I think I understand the general principle behind Swedenborg's correspondences--at least in a general way--but I wonder why I should accept any of the particular correspondences he identifies if I'm questioning his claim that he was taught by angels. Is there a principle that can be taught that would allow me to evaluate the correspondences he identifies and perhaps identify some of my own? Maybe I can offer some wisdom on this...After my husband passed I found Swedenborg and many insights from Swedenborg "match" the literal "signs" I have recieved from my husband after he passed. The biggest and most important being that angels are simply our passed loved ones in the spirit world occupying spiritual bodies of which men are still men and women are still women. Also mediums I have used to converse with my husband; have confirmed that husbands and wives are still married in the spirit world; confirming that true love is eternal and symbolizes the relationship of conjugal love between husband and wife. And that this relationship does indeed correspond to that of Christ & the church.

Hi Eric -- Swedenborg was shown that the Bible was written in the language of correspondence and symbolism. One passage where he discusses that verse (Genesis 3:16) says that that pain symbolizes the torment that happens when divine goodness and truth flow into an evil person. Another place describes it as anxiety arising from the conflict between good and evil, truth and falsity, when a person turns away from God. A few ideas for starters....

One way it helps me to think of it, is that the bible was written in places as if from the perspective of the people. Not from God's perspective. That's the fascinating thing about the Bible! The literal text holds a mixture of characters who actually existed in history, and characters that are purely allegorical. Whether the characters were historical individuals or not, whether the stories literally happened or not, the INNER story that the Bible is telling is consistent and relevant to all times. So the inner story is the purpose of the whole Bible. That genealogy that you mention contains a mixture of historical characters and allegorical characters, but all of the characters represent a series of states of mind and development that the human race went through between the beginning of humanity to the time of Jesus.

RE: The days of creation video… Have you contemplated what “day” of creation/development you are on? Personally I feel like a Day fiver (entry level day fiver! 😆). I also feel like the “days” can correspond to the 7 year cycles of development some psychologists refer to, thus “day 7” can relate to the years 43 - 49. I spent my first “6 days” in days 1 - 3 it seems (arrested development I guess). But during my “day 7”, I seem to have accelerated (so you can guess that I had a recent and intense ‘dark day of the soul’ that really drove me to Jesus and the Bible where everything just sort of fell into place and accelerated as far as my grasp on this complex subject (I am able to believe without seeing). As an aside, I spent my earlier years exploring and practicing all the things the Bible says NOT to. The good thing, I guess, is that I have a very good grasp on and intimate knowledge of the esoterica/dark arts, etc. and KNOW them to be false, dangerous, and a waste of time. I also KNOW that God/Love is the only way to happiness and eternal bliss, which is not automatic. I wish everyone would “buy in” to Christ/Love. Life could be so nice 😊. Thanks for indulging my thoughts on that subject.
@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 2 жыл бұрын
We appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the subject, Trodicus! It's powerful to hear the testimony of someone who has lived a "Godless" life, and has now found that a "God-full" life is better. Yes, it's fascinating to ponder what "day of creation" we might be in. Thanks for pointing out the parallel with the 7-year cycles of development. I guess I (Chara) am now at the end of my 9th cycle, so I'll have to think about that in relation to the days of creation in my spiritual life! One idea I like to fall back on is that God is guiding our journey every step of the way, and God is bringing something good out of all of our experiences. I just heard a story about Bill W (the founder of the 12-step programs) -- his wife said he needed every single day of his rough journey in order to be able to offer what he did to the world. It's inspiring to hear about your clarity on the "false, dangerous, and waste of time" nature of your former behavior, and your new(ish) state of peace in God's love. Thanks for joining the conversation!

Hi Curtis, since sewdenborg saw Bible as God s words, can we say that cristianity is the best religion for people to develop their heavenly mindset? since bible scriptures were written by people inspired by god, other religions only contain part of the truth or more or less distorted from the truth, for example, the reincarnation theory in buddism doesnt seem to even exist according to swedenborg, which can be somewhat misleading, another question is, if there always is deeper spiritual meaning under each scripture in bible, it will be hard for us ordinary people to understant and interpret it, so does it mean that reading the bible by our own is not recommented, there should be some kind of authority to interpret the bibe correctly so that we are able to gain the right meaning of it, but sounds like that will make us go backwards to the time when the Catholic ruled cristianity before Matin Luther King...
@offTheLeftEye

What awesome questions! I think you'll find this passage from Swedenborg very helpful. Bear in mind that while the language may be a little intense at times, the overall message rings true: "Any predestination but predestination to heaven is contrary to divine love, which is infinite. It is an insane heresy to believe that only those born in the church are saved. People born outside the church are just as human as people born within it. They come from the same heavenly source. They are equally living and immortal souls. They have religions as well, religions that enable them to believe that God exists and that they should lead good lives; and all of them who do believe in God and lead good lives become spiritual on their own level and are saved, as already noted [326]. Someone could point out that they have not been baptized. But baptism saves only people who have been spiritually washed, that is, regenerated. Baptism serves as a symbol and reminder of this. [6] Someone could point out that they do not know the Lord, and that apart from the Lord there is no salvation. But no one is saved because of knowing about the Lord. We are saved because we live by his commandments. Further, the Lord is known to everyone who believes in God because the Lord is the God of heaven and earth, as he tells us in Matthew 28:18 and elsewhere. Particularly, people outside the church have more of a concept of a personal God than Christians do; and people who have a concept of a personal God and lead good lives are accepted by the Lord. Unlike Christians, they believe in God as one in both person and essence. Further, they think about God as they lead their lives. They treat evils as sins against God; and people who do this are thinking about God as they lead their lives. Christians get the commandments of their religion from the Word, but not many of them actually take any commandments of life from it. [7] Catholics do not read it, and Protestants who believe in faith separated from charity pay no attention to what it says about life, only to what it says about faith. Yet the whole Word is nothing but a theology of life. Christianity is found only in Europe. Islam and other non-Christian religions are found in Asia, the Indies, Africa, and America; and there are ten times as many people in these latter parts of the world as there are in the Christian part of the world--and relatively few of these latter people make their religion a matter of their lives. What could be more insane than to believe that these and only these individuals are saved, and that the others are damned, that heaven is ours by right of birth and not by conduct of life? That is why the Lord says, "I tell you that many will come from the east and from the west and will recline with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens, while the children of the kingdom will be thrown out" (Matthew 8:11-12). [8] (d) It is a cruel heresy to believe that any member of the human race is damned by predestination. It is cruel, that is, to believe that the Lord, who is love itself and mercy itself, would allow such a vast number of people to be born for hell, or that so many millions would be born damned and doomed, that is, born devils and satans. It is cruel to believe that in his divine wisdom the Lord would not make sure that people who lead good lives and believe in God would not be cast into the flames and into eternal torment. After all, the Lord is the Creator and Savior of us all. He alone is leading us, and he does not want anyone to die; so it is cruel to believe and think that such a multitude of nations and people are by predestination being handed over to the devil as prey under the Lord's own guidance and oversight." That was long, but I hope you found something out of it! What do you think, friend?

@offTheLeftEye
@offTheLeftEye 5 жыл бұрын
@@wonsgnem4436 Yes, that is how I understand it. Swedenborg does say that the Bible is an amazing document, with great power to connect with God and heaven. But ONLY if the text is approached with a good heart, by someone who is living a good life, and who wants to use the text to humbly connect with heavenly love for other people, and God's divine love. People can also connect with God and heaven in other ways, through their own scriptures in other religions. Swedenborg actually says that the Bible is "dead" unless the words actually live in someone's heart from good motivations. So someone who has the Bible, but does not care to love the neighbor, has absolutely no advantage over someone in a different religion who has different scriptures, but who uses those scriptures because they want to learn how to serve God and the neighbor. Is is the state of the mind and heart that cause the Word of God to be "living" or "dead" in someone's life.

Ever wonder why the Bible would be written the way it is? I mean with all those hidden meanings. I guessing a lot of people wouldn’t see that if they tried reading it. Perhaps we have been disconnected for so long, we have forgotten about our true selves. I’m curious, how did Swedenborg know these things? Did it come to him while he was having those visions of the afterlife? Do you feel that a religious upbringing helped him to see more clearly? .... It is definitely intriguing! but not easy to absorb, but then again, we are imperfect.❤️🙂👍🏻🍀

Swedenborg learned that the Bible had to be written in such a way that it could connect the minds of angels with the minds of people on earth. Without some kind of connection between earth and the heavens, the human race would perish. But also, the Bible had to be written in a way that evil people could not learn and pervert the deeper meanings. So, the Bible allows connection, but also protects against perversion and profanation. Anyone who is willing to read the Bible from a genuine desire to learn how to love the neighbor can be led to get an inkling of the deeper meanings. Swedenborg did an intense amount of self-examination, prayer, and repentance along with his Bible studies. Because of his humble desire to learn, and to do good, the Lord was able to open up those deeper meanings. Swedenborg was also very intelligent, which made it possible for him to grasp it all. We should all be patient with ourselves about understanding the deeper meanings. It's not necessary to "get it" all at once. We have eternity to keep on learning. The important thing is to realize that all the deeper meanings have to do with loving God and loving the neighbor, and how to get there!

Swedenborg writes extensively on the nature of sin in relation to spiritual growth. In True Christianity, Swedenborg narrows the description by stating that "the evil that is sinful is simply evil against our neighbor; and evil against our neighbor is also evil against God, which is what sin is (525). Swedenborg wrote that the literal stories in the Word each contained deeper meaning, but humankind wasn't at a point in which they could receive that until his (Swedenborg's) day. As humanity evolved and fell into more destructive and selfish habits, the Lord needed to disclose deeper truths that could serve as a source of renewed hope for us. This is a major reason why now we are permitted to enter into the mysteries of faith.

Emanuel Swedenborg,1688 -- 1772, the great mystic, is seen in this documentary through archival photographs and reenactments which portray the insightful life led by this extraordinary man. He was a Swedish scientist, philosopher, theologian, revelator, and "mystic" with insights into the higher levels of Earth, as well as other planets. He is best known for his book on the afterlife, Heaven and Hell (1758). Swedenborg had a prolific career as an inventor and scientist. In 1741, at the age of 53, he entered into a spiritual phase in which he began to experience dreams and visions, beginning on Easter weekend of April 6, 1744. This culminated in a 'spiritual awakening', in which he received revelation that he was appointed by the Lord to write a heavenly Doctrine. "Splendors of the Spirit - Swedenborg's Quest for Insight" is a movie of life of Swedenborg, and his exploring of the many dimensions of our Earth, which have LIFE on a lot of different levels/stages of spirit development. This production "Splendors of the Spirit - Swedenborg's Quest for Insight" is a video with stunning nature photography, interviews and animations. "SPLENDORS OF THE SPIRIT" is a rare look at a rare man. I have a different understanding of what the tree of life represents. According to the Bible, the hope of fallen people is to approach or attain the tree of life: Proverb 13:12 “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.” The Israelites looked to the tree of life as their hope. Likewise, the hope of all Christians has been to approach and partake of the tree of life: Rev 22:14 “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates.” When Adam fell, God blocked his path to the tree of life by stationing the cherubim with a flaming sword to guard it. From this we can conclude that Adam's hope before the Fall was the tree of life. The tree of life in fact symbolizes a man who has fully matured. If Adam did not fell, he was to be this ideal man. The tree of life thus symbolizes perfected Adam

Is it possible that “ Adam and Eve” never lived on the earth in paradise ( because paradise would be a heavenly existence) but were expelled from there after “ sinning” and in someway brought to the earth to finish out their lives? 🙂

Hmm, very interesting thought! I think the Swedenborg answer would be no. He was adamant that angels do not "fall," since they have already developed their loves and priorities in this life and through the world of spirits. That means that if they are in heaven, it is because every part of their being WANTS to be. If they felt the need to turn away from God, they wouldn't be in heaven. Also, Adam and Eve were symbolic characters - not literal people. In Hebrew, "adam" means human. Swedenborg's interpretation, as I understand it, was that "Eve" is not a literal woman - instead, she symbolizes our love of self. Humanity moved away from God because we chose to love ourselves more than God - we wanted to be in charge of our own lives. This decision has made our lives much harder than they needed to be, and I believe we've spent much of history fumbling our way back to a state of innocence - but this time, the innocence of wisdom! Does that resonate with you? You might like our episode about fallen angel Lucifer for more on the idea of why Swedenborg says angels don't fall - "Was Lucifer Really An Angel Who Fell From Heaven?" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGitfoiejtaaftU

@@sumanghosh-pb3dw Swedenborg was certain that the first 11 books of Genesis were not historical fact - they were entirely symbolic stories. After that, the Bible does contain historic accounts of real people, and still is a symbolic account of our human spiritual journey. Swedenborg spent the most time on Genesis, Exodus, and the Book of Revelation, taking passages from these books and explaining them sentence by sentence; sometimes word for word. Swedenborg describes the inner meaning of Genesis and Exodus in "Secrets of Heaven" or, in the older translation, "Arcana Coelestia." Commenting to point Deborah (Q&A) and others to css.gtu.edu/ - Great work, Curtis. "Stumbled" upon your channel not long ago. Have absorbed many episodes and shared with my family. Your unassuming, kind manner makes for great communication and connection. Deborah's question about resources to "quench her thirst" sparked my comment. You mentioned Bryn Athyn and then Pacific School of Religion (PSR) in the context of Dr. James F. Lawrence. I couldn't find a reference to Swedenborg at PSR, so I dug a littler deeper. I discovered that Dr. Lawrence, in addition to being affiliated with PSR, is also Dean of the Center for Swedenborgian Studies at the Graduate Theological Union - css.gtu.edu/ Perhaps that's the better reference for Deborah and others, in addition to Bryn Athyn. Thank you and the many others who make this channel possible. It is hard to believe that thirty years of Swedenborg's work, and the man himself, could have remained in such obscurity for so long. The time/timing must be perfect now for this enlightenment. - btw, I live about an hour west of Bryn Athyn and the Foundation in WC. Planning on visiting sometime to take in the Swedenborg Library.

When literalism and religions go wrong...Knowing God (LCS) thru direct experience thru the avenue of mystical experiences...The Christ within (metaphor ?....Thought adjuster in Urantia book)..It does not get more metaphysical than that..The kingdom of heaven is inside of you...As crazy as that sounds the material World has no materiality or value substance to it comparing with the meaningful spiritual reality, and we eventually have to graduate from it, from this World of illusions and forms....We are all one, sparks from the grander Divine Light (AIN SOPH) of the true God or the Larger Consciousness System. When humanity started to fall into self-centeredness and greed, these deep heavenly things had to be protected from being completely perverted and corrupted. Humanity had to still have these deep connections with God somewhere inside of them in order to have life and exist. Evil is too specific. The transliteration is good and bad, they both are super broad. You can have a good flavor or bad flavor, and is intentionally broad because instead of depending on God's definition of good, we take the knowledge for ourselves and what could be a bad idea ends up being an evil reality, and what can be good and be beneficial. In the end humanity decided to take that knowledge for themselves.

And it was all capitalized like the capitalization in Revelations 17:5. So structure of writing is very important as well. Especially in understanding how Genesis 1 & 2 overlap and in extending information in Genesis 2, to continue the story line. 🤔. Confirming Revelations 22:16-21 and John 10:35 when it says and the scripture can not be broken. Also why skip Genesis 1:28 “replenish the earth” KJV. It is so important to understand how there is water in the universe, judged as darkness and Void. Job 38:30 says it is frozen. And the Spirit of God is surrounding in. John 1:1-8 This is Why Jesus went to the Cross and everyone seems to miss it. 😢

Wonderful blast from the past Curtis. IMO the plain text rather than corrspondential meaning is obvious and has the true meaning without introducing correspondences. Hebrew is an Afro-African language in which Adam means Man in English, an Indo-European language, and derives from a word meaning Mind, and thought. The KJV only refers to Man, not Adam. Then comes WoMan not named Eve until after the expulsion from the Garden and WoMan is an aspect of Mind. Not in Genesis explicitly but consider HuMan Being. HuMan is Aspirated Mind, Man into which God breathes and makes of Mind a living Soul, infusing the Holy Spirit into Mind as it were, 'Hu' being an onomatopoeia, its sound is the meaning. (As a digression consider 'Allah'. In Arabic 'al' and 'el' are the definative article 'the', as in El Cid. So 'Allah: means 'The Lah' and 'lah' is an onomatopoeia, its sound is the meaning, spoken as a Scotsman will say 'Loch'. So 'Allah' is 'The Holy Spirit'). WoMan is only named Eve after the expulsion from Eden, not while still in it.
