This song is so perfectly in line with the valyrian lemurs theory that it's as close to a confirmation as I think we're going to get. It makes sense with the rest of the information we have about dragons and the dragonbond. It comes to mind the fact that Jaehaerys I allowed the sealord (?) who got the eggs stolen by Elissa Freeman in return for forgiving a debt owed by the iron throne to actually keep the eggs (that are likely Dany's eggs) when Essos is full of descendants of Valyrians. The only explanation is that Jaehaerys knew only Targaryens could bond with Targaryen dragons, not just anyone with valyrian blood. This theory is also in line with Dany's ritual: her son was "sacrificed" for her eggs to hatch so it's still someone with both dragonrider blood and a close blood relation to Dany even if it's not an ancestor. At that point, the Targaryens had already intermarried with outsiders too much, which may be a reason their eggs' stopped hatching after the dance despite their best efforts - the connection with the original (and therefore that dragon line) ancestor weakened, until Dany reawakened it. I also wonder if perhaps Aegon, the Unlikely's plan had been to sacrifice himself in a ritual in order to hatch those eggs at Summerhall, but things got out of control due to wildfire and sabotage by the maesters. Also, t wouldn't make sense for Daemon to randomly go off to sing to Vermithor for no reason, especially at that point in the story. It makes much more sense for him to be preparing Vermithor for bonding with a new rider (I believe he had Rhaena in mind at this point rather then any plan involving the dragonseeds since she's the only Targaryen currently without a dragon and she's his daughter - and she looked interested when he mentioned Vermithor and Silverwing. I do wonder why she for Morning to hatch instead of claiming one of the riderless dragons earlier).

This adds legitimacy to the theory that cannibal is a dragon that did not come from the clutch of any dragon linked to the targaryens but may have been an egg left behind by ferrel dragons that may have used dragon stone before the Targaryens arrived. So though he might not be as old as Bailor, he is similar in age and size to Vagar. Cannibal cannot be domesticated because he was never linked to them

Making direct eye contact with the Dragon seems to be very important part in this whole bonding ritual. In fact when Dany bonded with Drogon she was looking straight into his eyes and saw her reflection staring back at her. Which makes sense, the eyes are the mirror of the soul and reflect everything that seems to be hidden; and like a mirror, they also reflect the person looking into them.

This theory perfectly explains the Canibal. Assuming the idea that the Canibal was already on Dragonstone as a young dragon when the Targarreons arrived it was possibly hatched from an egg which was from a different family would explain why no one can ride the Canibal and why it hunts Targareon dragons because they are from a rival family. Which makes you wonder how violent family rivalries were in Valyria.

But (@Alex Lopez) wrote it all in *BOLD* , so they must be right! (or *wrong and need to make their writing bold to compensate* = Style over Content). From A Wiki of Ice and Fire: Incest in Essos: "In the Valyrian Freehold, it was custom among the dragonlords to marry brother to sister, or, if that was not possible, an uncle to a niece, or an aunt to a nephew. However, this was not often practiced by those who were not from dragonrider families." So, not ALL Valyrian families practiced incest. But those families that rode dragons did. = Just like David Lightbringer said in this video.
@VideoNozoki2 жыл бұрын
@@AlexLopez-vm7uq This is incorrect. The Valyrians that had dragons practiced incest. (Dragonstone was colonized BEFORE the Doom of Old Valyria. Dragonstone had been colonized and fortified as the westernmost outpost of the Valyrian Freehold. Incest in the 40 dragonrider families was already a thing BEFORE the Doom.) If Aegon just wanted ANY noble Valyrian to marry, there were still other Valyrian families around after the Doom (for example, the previously non-dragonriding Valyrian family of House Velaryon of Driftmark --- and House Celtigar of Claw Isle are of Valyrian decent). The Velaryons of Driftmark and House Celtigar occupied their islands BEFORE Dragonstone, and before Aegon's Conquest. They are both recognized as noble houses, but they did not originally have dragons.

Maester Aemon’s “old and frail” comments take on a new meaning in this light too. Too late in his life he has solved the riddle of the dragon with three heads, and realised, bitterly, that he could have had children and sacrificed himself to restore the fortunes of his line. It's very interesting to me that Daemon has drunk so deeply of the Targaryen Kool-Aid when it comes to dragon magic, yet he's immediately (violently!) dismissive of the dreaming. I imagine it's because dragons are a tangible power whose benefit to him is obvious - what has a dream done for him lately? And yet without the dreaming, Aegon's conquest wouldn't have happened at all. He's "incomplete" as a Targaryen because he rejects that side of their magical nature. Almost as if he's missing a head.

That was a really cool analysis of Daemon's song. I love that idea of it being a spell because it's such a subtle but important show of how magic shows up through the series. Sometimes it's not huge displays, but in really small gestures. In a way it kind of reminds me of how some folk magic is practiced where it's much more of an everyday thing and not a big ritual. Though there can definitely be ritual to it. I could also see it fitting with the way Dragon Dreams appear in the story. Where the dreams themselves are magical, but they aren't always huge events, but they still carry an impact. The same way that the song is magical, and while it's not a huge event in of itself, its use for dragon bonding is massively important! Really enjoy the breakdowns of the smaller details that I missed before. Thank you! : D

One thing this also help to explain: why no one was able to bond with the Cannibal. If he is from another line of dragons, as the people of Dragonstone claim, then he would never be able to have a bond with any Targaryen nor dragonseed. I wonder if you have to sacrifice a mother. I get the feeling Daenerys was in some sense reborn by the sacrifice. In the end, she wanted to awake three dragons. And she burnt Mirri Maz Duur, and Khal Drogo, and herself. Or perhaps: it is Rhaego she gave as an offering to along with both Drogo and the witch. And then she is reborn, mother of dragons, a bit of her inside of everyone of them. Perhaps the sacrifice only gives life. And the waking of dragons requires a bit of her souls ro impregnate into the awakened dragons.

It makes sense that Daemon checks on the riderless dragons to prepare them for new ones! By interacting with them now and then is great, and it truly was a beautiful moment! I didn't care much what he was singing about, but finally seeing the translation and the possible meaning of them was very interesting, and I think you're right! It has a dark origin, but I like it dark! Speaking of theories, I have had thoughts recently which I would like to share with you or anyone else who reads this comment! It will have some spoilers for upcoming seasons of HOTD, assuming some here have not read Fire and Blood. So... I think Aegon the Conqueror's dagger actually was passed down to his oldest grandchild, Rhaena, which later would marry her brother anyhow. There must be a deeper meaning behind why Aegon cried when he first held her in his arms. I think Rhaena was a dreamer as well, just like him, for she was the first rider of Dreamfyre. She also was meant to be Queen, wed to the one that was meant to have been Aegon II, but he died, and Rhaena didn’t have other children than her twin daughters and her bloodline ends there. I see a similar pattern here with Helaena in the way that she married Aegon II, had children, but the bloodline ended there, but her sister’s children made theirs continue, just like Rhaena’s younger brother and sister’s did. When Jaehaerys became king, she gifted him that dagger. That would sort of explain one of the reasons visiting The North. Jaehaerys eventually gave the dagger to Viserys who wished to give it to his son one day. Why not giving it to his daughter to begin with was because that in the year of 101 it was decided that no heir would be a woman, but he ended up naming her heir anyways. Now, Dreamfyre’s riders were both dreamers. But since the Conqueror was a dreamer himself, maybe Balerion choose other dreamers as his riders as well! Maybe his first rider was Daenys the Dreamer herself! Maybe Aerea was a dreamer! He took her to Valyria maybe because she reminded him about his first rider? So he wanted to show her what happened to Valyria after the Doom? Balerion later chose Viserys, that too was a dreamer. But I don’t think Maegor was much of a dreamer… But maybe the dragon himself was sort of a dreamer? That he chose Maegor because he sort of knew what needed to happen? Also, could he be the father of Dreamfyre, making him Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal’s possible grandfather? Dragons for yet another dreamer! And then we have Rhaegar, which too could be a dreamer, having seemingly a similar pattern like Rhaena and Helaena in the sense that his children with Elia were killed. His brother’s line too was ended, leaving Daenerys. Rhaegar’s line too survived, but only because he followed prophecy. Dany gave birth to dragons! She’s Drogon’s rider! The dragon which is called ”The Black Dread Come Again” and Daenerys is like Daenys come again! She’s in the east but she should venture west! I really hope my thoughts are proven correct! That would be cool! But I would not be mad if I’m proven wrong either. What do you think?
@sofialarsson91002 жыл бұрын
To add on what I earlier wrote (spoilers!), The Pact of Ice and Fire between Jacaerys and Cregan Stark would not be fulfilled in their lifetime, but it was somewhat fullfilled with Rhaegar and Lyanna! Maybe it’s meant that a ”dragon” is needed in The North!

My friends and I have been talking for a while and developing a whole thing about the importance of Eyes in this story. All the little references and lines in the book. Your videos obviously helped with that lol. But, I also see the third head as related to the three eyed Raven. The third eye is the eye of truth and of seeing “more”. I feel like the three heads combining , some truth is revealed. Also, I think about how Bloodraven told Bran that there were Children in all of the ravens , so I see that the same way as spirits or a spirit being in the dragons. I hope that makes sense

Getting some holy trinity vibes from this. The valyrian ancestor spirit as the intermediary between the two beings. Perhaps more of an "Unholy Trinity".

Ink spilled!? Your funny! I was rewatching an ep of GOT last night and noticed in the scene when Drogon flew back to Dragonstone with Dany and Jon put his hand on Drogon’s nose, the camera zoomed in on Drogon’s eye. It reminded me of Daemon and Vermithor.

If Valyrians intermarry to keep control over specific lines of dragons, then why was Jaehaerys so worried about the stolen eggs. If someone were to even hatch them they wouldn't have been able to control them without the Targaryen ancestor.
@Pomshka2 жыл бұрын
Ohhhh the whole sacrifice thing makes so much sense to me!!! I've never heard of this theory before!! So when Egg presumably starts the fire at summerhall? So would this also theoretically be why Drogon is like Drogo etc?
@zelbernil37902 жыл бұрын
Although Drogo's not Valyrian, he's bound to Dany tho. I dunno...
@leannepowell87092 жыл бұрын
George always said it was a magical event that enabled Dany to hatch her dragons but if the eggs were the 3 Allysa Farman stole they would be from Dragonstone and within Danys line of dragons. Maybe the prophecy Rhagar, Egg and others were chasing to bring back dragons was all confused with this. Like they knew it would take blood magic but the knowledge was lost along the way.

This theory has blown my mind. The lemurs. It makes sense. It's perfect. So, is this part of the "song" in a song of ice and fire? Does Rhaegar's harp fit in somehow?

I think your theory about the ancestor's soul it's an elegant solution to how Valyrians became able to control dragons in the first place. I like it. To me, in Daemon's song the third head is Caraxes. Remember, he says "through my voice the fires have spoken", meaning I have already bonded one dragon. The "words of flame" to me refers to the required bonding ritual (some kind of spell), and the "clear eyes" mean he is somehow temporarily "masking" his bond to Caraxes in order to bond Vermithor too. I say this because going back to the show when Jon bonds Rhaegal it happens through intense eye contact as well.

I think the Targaryens are literally part dragon. There’s so much talk of the blood of the dragon. Plus there are several mentions of Targaryen miscarriages with scales, tails and wings. Also their resistance to heat.

Bro, I just wanted to say this was a great video, really brought me back to the 'Blood of the other' series from back in the day... just like the kind of theory that gives me chills,, really great stuff. I don't know if these things will end up as cannon, but the fact that some of your ideas might eventually pay off in the books is just so thrilling because of how it would make many of the threads planted so transcendent and such effective symbolism... great great video lightbringer!

@davidlightbringer , This is a wonderful video! I have not read the books for this part of the series but I have an art historical and mystical background. When I watched this the first time and I saw Dameon go into the cave singing I knew right away it was a dragon rider binding spell that Dameon was singing. I just did not know the translation, but when I saw the dragons eyes looking in to Dameon's I was like OMGS this confirms what I suspected all along that the dragons are the Valyrian's deceased ancestors in some way. I did not understand how exactly they did this magic but then I remember Khal Drogo's funeral. Yet this makes me think on your YI-Ti and Asahi videos where this magic would not have been common knowledge to the at the time of the great empire of the dawn. Only a select few would have known and most likely this was first taught at that empire of the dawn. In the first place because in the first book of the "A Game of Thrones" I keep thinking about one of the dragon dreams Danny has. The one where "she wakes the dragon" again but she see's her ancestors with different colored eyes telling her to wake the dragon and she spurts out wings on her back. Which I caught that they were the rulers of Yi-Ti before its downfall from the world of Ice and fire book. I wonder if the first emperor of Yi-Ti was the first dragon ancestor because of this video has me thinking and also how his passing is written in that book in such a way where it says he goes into the sky or heavens upon his passing. Looking at the last stanza of this song made me think of this and I suspect that is what happened to him and the empress of the dawn. I am not sure how she fits in to this part of the dragon has three heads and ancestral dragon binding part. I can only wonder or maybe something will be revealed about her in a similar form in season two.

Love your work as always! Theory makes so much sense. And it may also explain some of the malformed babies of house Targaryen. I know it’s not within a remotely close universe, but in the series the Originals, the witches of New Orleans used ancestral magic by channeling the power of their ancestors. But as time went on, their connection weakened so every 100 years or so they needed to sacrifice 4 young witches in the community to re-strengthen that bond. Also gives me Shannara vibes with the Elcrys and needing a descendant of the original sacrifice to be sacrificed and become the Elcrys and heal it. Maybe the same happens here. The connection to the ancestral spirit weakens over time and so ‘dragon babies’ are born to join/become the third head of the dragon in later generations and re-strengthen the bond. Would then give a double meaning to Daemon’s song about price being paid in blood magic when their daughter is stillborn. And Rhaego would then also have been the price to reforge that bond and re-awaken the dragons. May be a stretch but some food for thought :)
