The Mega Mart in Cozumel - NCL Breakaway Vlog

I can truly say that exploring the MEGA Mart in Cozumel! We had been told it was the 'Walmart of Mexico' so we were really curious to see it for ourselves. I guess Walmart would be the closest thing to compare it to, but it was pretty different. You could buy ANYTHING there. The area we like the most... being foodies... was the grocery store. If only we could have bought our body weight in cheese to bring home, we would have! And the bakery was incredible with the pastries only costing about $0.40 each! If you get a chance to visit next time you are in Cozumel, do it!!

Love this video and seeing the inside of the Mega! I joked to my family it’s my kind of video. Lol. I wanted to tell you, New Orleans is below sea level and most are buried mausoleum style. I think lots of islands would be the same. This is to keep the bodies from floating away during floods.

I do get nervous when you two venture around on your own outside the port area like you did in Nassau.....I am always nervous for you. You go to mega and buy a bag cooler which are 99 cents, bag of ice which is like 50 cents then fill it with beer and sandwiches and take it to the beach. The part of the wings you are speaking of are called "paddles".

About how much of a walk from the cruise ship to the Mega Mart? I'll be there in January and so want to go experience this (and then a quit jaunt over to Starbucks to get cups for our grand kids) but not sure I would be able to go for miles. It depends on which port you dock at. If sailing with Carnival it is not in walking distance, you would need to take a taxi. If with NCL, it is about a 7-10 minute walk.

Love your videos! I would be dying with all of that cheese and seafood, since I couldn't resist buying out the whole store with that stuff. And Diet Dr. Pepper...can't go wrong with that...now if it's a Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper, I'm in heaven.

I had to laugh at the fridges. We have the tall thinner fridges in Ireland too.....We call the bigger double fridges "American fridges" (which are getting more popular here too)!! To ye they're just fridges! 😆🌼

I've been to a Chedraui on Isla Mujeres which is very similar. They are great if you are staying in a hotel or airbnb nearby to stock up on supplies!

Fun fact a lot of electronics and the clothes in Mexico 🇲🇽 are in fact the same price if not more expensive than in the USA 🇺🇸! The trading and taxes with Japan and other Asian countries are different for THE USA THAN MEXICO ! My family in Mexico come to the USA and take back clothes and electronics !

I was there in March on Norwegian Eplc and you could see the Mega Mart building from the cruise ship. Otherwise it would be hard to find as its a little off the normal tourist path.

There is a food tour that picks up and drops off at Mega Mart. Highly recommended .

How nice to try to see a bit how the locals live. The Mega Mart definitely looked like it carried a variety of items. Have you ever been to Paradise Beach in Cozumel? I recommend it for a day to relax there - it has a wonderful pool and staff, for a $3 entry fee! I love how positive you are and love to see the interaction between you two. Thanks for sharing!

They have a neat program with the local orphanage, Ciudad de Angeles: if you bring a backpack filled with school supplies, you can get in free!

Had a friend when I was younger lived across the street, his mom made homemade tamales. Loved them! He called one day and said his mom was making tamales. I thought he said she had made tamales. I ran across the street to grab a fresh tamale. She pulled a pigs head out of the oven! I about lost it. From then on I only ate her beef tamales. Lol that pigs head scared me.

In the bakery they had A LOT of Pan Dulce (sweet bread). Kinda their thing of doughnuts. My mother in law eats her with coffee. All my kids like to eat those. We will be in Cozumel in May and taking all 4 of our kids and my mom. We will be stopping in Mega for lunch and snacks!!!

Ive been in a Walmart like that but it was a Walmart. I use xe currency converter. I have their app on my fone. Those fridges are like the British ones. The food looks very Mexican wiv some American stuff and some British stuff. I can’t buy cookies wivout knowing wat they are.

Next time you leave out of Galveston on carnival try to check out Puerto Rico and go to ride the Beast zipline. Nine zips and also the longest (1.5 mile) and the tallest (1000 ft) flying above the rain forrest. check it out on youtube. Most fun excursion I have ever been on no matter the cruise.

You guys are so freaking cool, I love all your videos...they are so informative. I have never cruised and will take (hopefully) my first cruise in April 2022 to Belize and Cozumel (on the NCL Breakaway--all of your videos on the Breakaway are fantastic). So I'm using these to prepare. Q: why can't you buy the cheeses at the Mega Mart? Are we not allowed to bring them back into the 'States?? You could eat it on the ship right? What about cigars--my first stop & search in the ports will be for cigars. Can't we take those back?? (I still I have lots of research to do) Holy cow...look at that bakery! You look like you smoke weed...that is so funny! (I don't either, but maybe I should grow my hair out before my trip)

Hi! You can buy the cheese, etc. We just didn't have a way to keep them cold during transport. There is a fridge in your cabin, but we were going to be in hot Cozumel for a while before going back onboard. I hindsight, you could but a little collapsible cooler at Mega and buy all you want! And yes, you can buy cigars, etc as well.

Cheese is considered processed food therefore you can bring it to the cruise. Not like fruits. I bought cheese from Aruba, Curaçao with no problems on any airport.

Basically the main restriction is no fruit or plants. We are crazy cheese lovers and probably could have gotten some but the logistics of keeping it cold until we got home is what stopped us.

Yes they will accept USD. If you port in Punta Langosta it is only a two block walk. If you port in Puerto Maya, I would take a cab.

Oh I forgot to tell you the only place to eat in Coz is La Choza a fantastic not tourist restaurant clean cheap friendly n modern just 2 blocks off downtown docks but ask anyone the locals all know it we ve been going three for 12 yrs they r on Facebook n post both tourists menu n local menus by the way they do have super Walmart s in Mexico but not close to,port and that pink cookie had Guava paste in it too bad you didn’t go to main square in downtown

U should have cut that and went to the parts of the store where theirs novelties and things that ppl normally wanna buy in the shops while off the ship and u should have showed the pricing so we could see how much less the prices are in comparison to the shops

This is not a tourist souvenir shop. This is where the locals shop. And we are foodies so the local food was fascinating to us. Souvenirs can be bought in the port shops.

No matter where I travel to I enjoy checking out local grocery stores. Can find interesting items and personally I would rather bring back a hot sauce , candy or snack than a t-shirt or mug.

Being from Florida, my 1st thing I noticed in Cozumel Hooters, there were no blondes, all brunettes. make sense though.
