Why buy a house right by the motorway and then complain when the maintenance is carried out? Would they rather it was repaired during the day when thousands of people would then be disrupted? Have they never heard of blackout curtains and earplugs?
@dadt80095 жыл бұрын
I find earplugs don't work well with lower frequencies noise. Also, some of these residents have been there since before the motorway was built. Anyway, I think you have a point. It's too late for the residents now. They are not going to close or move the motorway now.
@Jwright655 жыл бұрын
@@dadt8009 The older couples situation is a shame and they have a right to be irritated, but they don't seem to be that bothered about the maintenance - just the water in their garden. I have to say... the month the city of Boston spent jackhammering something in the alley right outside my apartment window, starting at 5 or 6 am daily, was far more headache-inducing than the T running right past the front of the building. And the T was so loud you had to pause conversations while it passed. Jackhammers are LOUD. But if it was really only going to be one night? They have the right to be annoyed but it's a passing nuisance. Also, I didn't catch if they "moved there" or had been there generations? My family's farm is right on the end of a bridge which leads to interesting back-and-forth coordinating with the bridge authority. Technically, you can't build a driveway that close to a bridge entrance. But we were there first, and they built their bridge that close to the driveway, so we're grandfathered in. I say "we" even though my father wasn't even born yet when the bridge was built. It's still the family farm, and my family was there first :-) Edit: Okay, it was a week not a night. They came back to them later. Still...

If he infact had a legitimate 112 dB source further away from the sound level meters microphone then like an inch we would have gotten it from the videoclip as *sound* as well. Now what we do hear is some sort of fan that stops just as the value magically drops from 112 dB to like 60 dB in 2 seconds. I say he has some sort of noice source an inch from the sound level meters microphone - perhaps a fan of some sort blowing into the microphone.

I live opposite a train station platform with a level crossing blocking the top end of the housing estate, so every, flipping, time I go anywhere, fingers crossed the barriers are up and we can drive straight over the track. If there are works carried out, me and my neighbours get flyers through the door giving dates and times when they will happen overnight. I certainly don't notice any more noise than the usual passenger or freight trains either stopping or passing through at very great speed. I also wear noise cancelling earbuds or on-ear headphones, so if there was excess noise either, from the railway or my town's bypass just a block round the corner at any time of the day, I can just block it with the noise cancelling feature.

Watching this four years on. I have an Ordnance Survey map from 1967, which is just after this stretch of the M6 was built. Grindleford Road, and another road about 200 metres further north were the only roads that backed on to the M6 in the West Midlands at that time, so any other houses that do the same now were built after the motorway, and someone bought them with the motorway already there. I am surprised at the number of people banging on about sound barriers. They are used on some modern motorways in the UK, but only where the structure has been designed for them. To block the noise they would have to be built at road level, and those elevated sections were not designed for that additional weight, nor the wind loading on them. Not only that, if you've actually stood underneath these elevated sections, there is far more noise from vehicles going over the expansion joints than there is from the vehicles tyres or engines, and that noise would be far greater when the motorway is free flowing at night than when stationary lorries are parked on it during roadworks. That claimed 119db is just plain BS, though, as proven by the professional measurement.

So damn annoying the way the editors have added car and lorry horn sounds to this just to make it seem more dangerous.

Does the UK not install sound baffling walls? In high traffic or residential areas, the US employs these. I presume they’ve researched various methods of alleviating noise pollution.

We do in some roads but we prefer to use trees and nature

@@danndylionperson224 but you can still have proper sound barriers plus trees. this is pretty standard in australia

@@gde1989 You can however my point was not that it ismy possible more in the UK we dont really use artificial sound barriers and more use only natural ones like trees
@gde19893 жыл бұрын
@@danndylionperson224 and i guess that would be my point, it is crazy to see that those houses are that close to the motorway and there are no proper sound barriers. In my part of Aus, you would never see houses built that close, but when they are, there are proper sound barriers and will generally be surrounded by trees especially on the side where houses are. Is there no legislation in the UK that would regulate that these must be installed?

@@gde1989In regards to regulation there is now in regards to sound barriers and building restrictions but not when it was built

I call bull on the sound recording. The acoustics of both recording devices were completely different. The councils one was recorded in open space and the blokes one was done from his window. Then you got the guy in his lounge room...

Wish the USA would adopt some of the ways they maintain the roads over the pond. A new road surface over here never means a smooth ride, especially in a semi.

Future is bright for motorists on the UK network of smart Motorways, I don't think so. It shows you what happened to the woman with the kid with the flat. If a lorry had hit them they would NOT of lived. Dangerous if you ask me if we have no hard shoulder to go to if we breakdown in the UK . Good that they are doing the work and managing the motorways but it is all about saving money at the end off the day. For the two guys move or stay and put up with it. I hope they sorted the drain problem out for the drain problem. I don't know why everything nowadays has to be called smart it, it is not smart it is a nightmare.

It amazes me that they would even consider getting a hotel for residents. It's great and all to consider it, but here in the USA, you ask for that and you would get laughed off the phone.

To the people that complain about the noise.. If you choose to move into a house that have a massive highway running next to it and are aware of it when you move in, you can't really complain about it. If you lived there before or when it was built, then I can understand complaining. But you do get used to the sounds fairly fast, I myself have been living between a highway and a tailroad, can barely hear the cars and trains anymore.

In the US they build noise control walls. Literally a wall that is built with cinder blocks to reduce the noise pollution. Why don't they do that ?
