This is what the “faster edition” of a car should be. Not just different wheels and blacked out badges but in essence a different car with numerous improvements.
@davidknuckles63302 жыл бұрын
Expensive. People buy the badged up ones for $15k+ extra, so you have to imagine how much money they lost (comparatively) re-engineering so much for the sake of lower number that matters less and less to less and less people. Mainly a flex to competing manufacturers than something that other automakers would have any incentive to make without that impetus

This is Mercedes saying Yes, we make the G-Wagon for celebs and the S-class for Execs, but we also dominate F1 and GT racing in a way none of the other German manufacturers do. It doesn't even try to be subtle or classy. I love my JDM cars, but the best they do by comparison is an A-spec steering wheel that says "We make the NSX" or a moving gauge bezel that reminds the world they once made the LFA. They DID mention that "it shouldn't be quiet" either. But the expectation for EVERY segment has always been to expand the performance envelope in every direction - which this purposefully does NOT do. And also keep in mind this IS still a Mercedes. There is an expectation of comfort and refinement, even from the AMG GT63 Coupe, which sits one level below and to the side of this car. They make a good point that people who have bought a model LIKE the AMG GT63 in the past for canyon driving should NOT expect the same kind of experience from this model at all (and you know some people WILL make that kind of comparison, however invalid it is).

I don’t do track days so I just can’t justify it. Not saying I can afford this merc but the hassle and worry seems like it’s only for the Uber rich with a track budget. These 2-3 second cars are super meh in normal driving or even spirited driving unless you are willing to risk the consequences of triple digit speeds on your favorite mountain road. You break the speed limits immediately and can never go fast enough to hear the engine at high revs.
@leehollister11992 жыл бұрын
One thing that people don't realize is that to drive these cars at their limit you yourself have to almost be a professional driver. At 720hp you're dealing with an insane amount of power which increases your speed which then makes your braking and turn-in points extremely vital to hit perfectly every time. I have a C6Z that I've added so much power to it's not even fun to drive at the track because of how easily it rips the tires off the road during corner exit. As they say, it's more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

It's a funny thing. Chevy argued falsely in my opinion the Corvette needed to go mid engine layout to achieve higher performance levels. But Mercedes with a front mid engine layout beat all other production cars. The C7 ZR1 beat the Mclaren 720s and FORD GT at VIR. So my point is it was a whole lie to say Corvette's had to go mid engine. From my experience, the front mid engine layout which Corvette's were and Mercedes is sticking with gives you the ultimate track capability. Simply because mid engine cars are like front wheel drive cars They are prone to understeer and when you are at the razor's edge of speeds. You got to sort of wait for the front end to turn and stop the car from sliding away from the track. With front mid engine cars, you simply turn the wheel and the front of the car moves with expedience. Front mid engine cars also have the best records for production cars when it comes to braking distances., Which means you can stop a lot later and still make a turn. Funny, the Mercedes proves Corvette's theory wrong that mid engine layout are the superior lay out compared to front mid engine. Hats off to Mercedes for making a extreme performance machine
@xtnuser53382 жыл бұрын
What? Mid engined cars are prone to understeer? What I think you mean is that many mid-engined cars are set up to understeer from the factory, for the safety of those people who don't know how to drive them fast. They can certainly be dialed in for oversteer if that's what you want instead. It's quite difficult to get my Exige to understeer anymore, even if you're trying to.

@@xtnuser5338 no. It's also not debunked. Yes you can change the camber of mid engine cars but that still doesn't give you the feeling and speed that a front mid engine car carries. The viper proved this time and time again with the records they broke. But I do see your point. Just doesn't debunk as much as you say. You still lose your tires a whole lot faster with all that negative camber. Where as the front mid engine layout from factory isn't prone to that. Only thing is most people couldn't bring out the true speed of the Corvette of the 7th generation and down. Or the viper. Too intimidated.
@xtnuser53382 жыл бұрын
@@MrSupersaiyangoku There is either debunked, or there is not debunked. You claimed mid engined cars are prone to understeer, and that simply is not an inherent fact of the configuration. Either configuration can be made to understeer or oversteer as desired, without abnormal tire wear. There are a hundred different factors involving suspension geometry, anti-roll, weight balance and distribution, angular momentum, spring rates and damping characteristics, tire sizes and characteristics, aerodynamic forces, etc., etc., etc. You're making sweeping generalizations about stuff you kinda half understand. My tires wear quite evenly - thank-you very much - because I set the camber based on even temperature distribution for my preferred air pressures, and then adjusted OTHER variables to achieve the steering balance I desired. And I guarantee my Exige will go through any turn just as fast as a Viper ACR or a C7 ZR1 or a GT3RS will (with similar tires). In fact I know it first hand, as I've been on track with all three. It certainly isn't as fast down the straights, but it will out break and out turn all of them consistently. Now I'm not saying it's by a huge margin, but it will slightly gain on them in every braking zone and more apexes than not.

It's possible if its able to hook up well, it's all about how better the car can manage its traction. This car does 5.6sec 100-200kph which is very fast.

@@princesekyere9679 True. I'm sure someone will take theirs to a drag strip and run it.

so this for 350,000k or a 992 gt3? or a gtc and a gt4 and an g80 M3? and obviously if you can afford a black series you already have like 5 other cars. i'm saying is it worth it?

What really holds it back is the invisible price ceiling up to which people are willing to pay for a Merc. The SLR, SLS, Maybachs, and this are all amazing autos but sales failures.
