This singing was one of the most intense spiritual experiences of my life - if you have the opportunity to go, you could not ask for a more welcoming and genuine community of folks to associate with.

All praise to Christ for the fine old hymns sung acapella like the Good Lord intended. Keep it up!

I didn't, but I got into it by way of Sacred Harp singing. I feel like the two traditions are related, the Lloyd's singers use a lot of the same tunes, only they pass it down orally and they mix and match the tunes and texts a lot more. I like the Old Regular Baptist singing too. any a capella singing is good stuff, but these three traditions are easily the most "authentic" sounding music I know. nothing remotely commercialized or studio made about any of it, real people singing real, singable music, for their own pleasure or the glory of God, and they use the old traditional tunes and texts like their forebears. really is something special. and the Lloyd's is a valuable to have too, just as a reference for hymns. I couldn't even find one up here in the North, not even online. I got lucky and was given one by a friend in Maine who had a few that they sing out of when ever possible.

85 Mercy Seat From ev'ry stormy wind that blows, From ev'ry swelling tide of woes, There is a calm, a sure retreat, 'Tis found beneath the mercy seat. There is a place where Jesus sheds, The oil of gladness on our heads; A place of all on earth most sweet, It is the blood bought mercy seat. There is a scene where spirits blend, Where friend holds fellowship with friend; Tho sundered far by faith they meet, Around one common mercy seat. Ah! whither could we flee for aid, When tempted desolate, dismayed? Or how the hosts of hell defeat, Had suff'ring saints no mercy seat. There, there on eagle's wings we soar, And sin and sense seem all no more; And heav'n comes down our souls to greet, And glory crowns the mercy seat. O let my hand forget her skill, My tongue be silent cold and still, This bounding heart forget to beat, If I forget the mercy seat. sevenshapes.sacredharpbremen.org/songs/1---99/085-mercy-seat

Thank you kindly for posting the lyrics. One observation: “Tho sundered far by faith they meet around one common mercy seat.” while a lovely sounding lyric, the LORD never intended believers to be “sundered far by faith” as the language of scripture is that of true unity, not the ecumenical, false unity of agreeing to disagree. JESUS and His apostles are the only authority regarding doctrine and they clearly intended that all continue stedfastly in the faith once delivered to the saints. True unity is true beauty.(Psalm 133) ONE LORD, ONE FAITH...Grace on all that love Our LORD JESUS CHRIST in sincerity. 💕
