What a marvelous production! I can only imagine what people thought of this in 1906? Amazing!

This was amazing! The Merry Frolics of Satan has always been one of my favorite Georges Méliès movies and one of my favorite movies from the 1900s. I've seen multiple incomplete versions of this movie, but seeing it complete, with context given in the captions and with a great score for the first time is breathtaking and makes me so happy. Thank you so much for uploading this!

This was saved close to the last minute. You can see nitrate decomposition starting. Had to watch without the "music."

Remarkably well-preserved. The two-dimensional props are very well rendered and convincing.

Wildest fever dream I've ever seen. I'm guessing second takes weren't invented yet. I did enjoy this piece of history and art. It was just so wild

Interesting film but I take issue with the music chosen. But that's just me probably. Thanks for the upload.

My mind boggles at all the creative work to pull off these films of Melies! All that background scenery had to be designed and hand painted. All those props had to be created and built by hand. All the costuming had to be created and made for all those extras. Paying for all this, including all those people that appeared in them had to cost a fortune! Did he get all that money back and make a profit, too? Or was he wealthy and used his own money to make his films? Anyone know?

Méliès was the first to invent fictional cinema, film tricks and much more. He was a man of the theater and did everything on his own acting, making the sets and tricks, writing the music, coloring the pellicle, and projecting his films in his theater, only Chaplin would succeed in having the same independence as Méliès. In the beginning Méliès was a huge success. But Méliès sold his films instead of renting them, and he never renewed his directing style, his films passed out of fashion, and before World War I began he was forgotten by all . On the Internet you can find a lot of information about Melies' life, also watch Martin Scorzese's film Hugo Cabret

I think a few years after this he went bankrupt. The sets were incredibly lavish. Highly detailed
