Back in the 70 s I had the occasion to ask Dr. Criswell what seminary I should attend . He said ," young man if you want to be a big shot in the S.B.C go to a Southern Baptist seminary , if you want to know and preach the Bible go to Dallas Theological Seminary." It is good to know that First Baptist of Dallas has taken his advise with it current pastor.

I'm shocked about Al and his T4G group of men. I went for years and the last time I went I took my oldest son who was 12 years old at the time. I was as shocked as I've ever been to hear how the social justice had taken over their minds and their actions. That is everybody but John MacArthur. And the rest is history. I'm a SBC pastor. I don't know what's going to happen with the denomination. Can there be another resurgence? It looks highly unlikely. It's a sad day to see how liberalism has come in by stealth and taken over. I think I will stay and fight. I know one man commented that he left the SBC, there are many others who have as well. But I believe that there are enough pastors to make a difference. "Maranatha."
@fuzfire4 жыл бұрын
It is my belief, having just found out a few weeks ago that in 2019 that the SBC's adoption of Critical Race Theory & Intersectionality as "analytical tools are to be used now, is the new assault of liberalism on Scripture as the stand alone authoritative, Inerrant Testament of God. Our young people going into our Baptist learning institutions have already been under the compromised hands of educators in their formative years. If these young people who will be our pastors and leaders of God's Kingdom work in the future, are given more of the world's pablem today, then our churches will go the way of the other denominations have, into heresy and then into history, as has been for the Kingdom of God. Remember what Scripture says about yeast in Galatians 5:9, NASB: "A little leaven leavens the whole lump of dough."

This is exactly why I chose, as a southern baptist, to attend Dallas Seminary in 1984 rather than Southwestern. The weak view of Scripture and emphasis on denominational structure at SWBTS made DTS the obvious choice. My BSU director in college told me I'll never be a pastor of a SBC church...and he was right. I have served as a Teacher and Principal now in the public school since graduating from DTS and impact many more each day than if I had been a Pastor. Such are the plans of God...rarely are they the plans of man.

The SBC took the correct doctrinal stance. But failed to clean up its Seminaries. What does it mean to say you believe in God's Word but continue to allow bad teaching at the seminaries? The SBC leadership has failed obey God in its actions. It allows Russell Moore to denounce faithful believers and take stances against the teaching of scripture.
@JDawg-FR6 жыл бұрын
mrssalina what stands have Russell Moore taken that you are talking about. From reading his books, Twitter, etc. He's a faithful witness of the convention
@mrssalina6 жыл бұрын
He condemned those seeking to deliver homosexuals declaring gays are born gay and cannot stop being gay. In doing so he condemned people faithfully serving God and went against the clear teaching of scripture that the blood of Christ can deliver any captive from any bondage. He condemned Chief Justice Roy Moore for his faithful stance against gay marriage. He is allied with the progressives in the domination pushing a neo-Marxist group identity agenda regarding race and sex. They don't call themselves progressives because the agenda is clearly a neo-Marxist agenda. In general he does not boldly raise up the standard of truth but carries the water of the Republican Establishment.
@JDawg-FR6 жыл бұрын
mrssalina the idea of being born gay is the proven one. Even if homosexuals are not born that way, if they think they are then accepted them but making it known that christ will bring them out of that sin of homosexuality is the message we must tell them. I do not know the exact reason Russell Moore condemned Roy Moore but I would imagine it had to do with the sexual assult cases brought against him, regardless of his stance on gay marriage. I am also confused how Russell Moore can simultaneously hold the republican establishment but support a leftist neo-Marxist agenda?
@mrssalina6 жыл бұрын
Russell Moore condemned Roy Moore years before that slander and directly because of his stance against gay marriage. He directly condemned those trying to deliver homosexuals from their sin. So I am not getting picky with his messaging - he is clearly doing wrong when he condemns those doing God's work.
@mrssalina6 жыл бұрын

I think Jim Cymbala's My House Shall be a House of Prayer preached at the Praise Gathering in the early 90's was one of the most important sermons preached in the last 30 years. Unlike Criswell's sermon at the SBC though, I don't believe the church at large has heeded that message, aside from those in attendance and those who bought the DVD obviously. I was also at a David Wilkerson rally in Australia in the 2000's which was poorly received, but that is another story...

Unfortunate that these would be the two words of which you take hold and make comment. Satan desires to drive a wedge in the true church and separate believers over race, gender and ethnicity, thereby weakening our testimonies before the lost and dying world to whom we preach a gospel of reconciliation to God (2 Cor 5:20). But the great Apostle in writing the the church at Ephesus wrote, "having abolished in His flesh, the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity" (2:15-16). The hatred between Jews and gentiles was the most vicious, even more so that we have known in America between people of light skin and people dark skin. And, I have plenty of my own sin to repent of, it is not my place to repent for the sins of others (i.e: Christians that have gone before me and done evil to other Christians on the basis of gender, skin color or ethnicity). Please, seek unity and peace (Matthew 5:9) in the body as brothers and sisters ought, not division over the poor conduct of some from the past that may even upon death heard the sorrowful words from the Lord, "depart from me, I never knew you", because they weren't even genuine converts to Christ. I mean this in the most sincere Christian love. Blessings.
