I think we can all agree that Zeus is evil figure in mythology overall. Hades may be the ruler of the underworld but he's faithful to his wife, hasn't killed anyone, just rules over the dead. Zeus is an abusive and adulterous dude. Plus he's supposed to be "King of the Gods". It further shows that the people most undeserving of power are the ones in control of it.
@piffba
@piffba 4 жыл бұрын
I agree, but Hades was actually not entirely faithful. He cheated on Persephone like twice (still much better than Zeus tho), once with Mynthe who became the mint plant when Persephone got ahold of her, and some other girl I can’t name

From Atlas's adventures, it could be assumed that the phrase, "Having the whole world on your shoulders" is inspired by them. Years ago there was a body builder who went by the name Charles Atlas. He placed ads in magazines promising that if one followed his method of body building, he would no longer be bullied by big, tough guys on the beach. In the print ad it showed a skinny guy with his girlfriend at the beach. A big beach bully struts by and not only steals the girl, but kicks sand in his face. This ad is alluded to in the song , "In Just Seven Days I Can Make You A Man" from the play and film The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

There’s a whole other version you left out, where Atlas’ name gave Atlantis its name. Plato said, Atlantis existed beyond the Pillars of Heracles, which many theorize would be the Strait of Gibraltar, into the Atlantic Ocean from the Mediterranean. His source was reportedly his historian uncle who had been told of Atlantis’ existence by an Ancient Egyptian, who said it went underwater some 9000+ years earlier. The Egyptian god Thoth is said to have been a refugee of Atlantis & also the builder of the Pyramids. Thoth’s Greek incarnation would be Hermes (Roman, Mercury).

Commenting Creatively Yes, he was the god of that & many other things. According to him (The Emerald Tablets, which you can find on KZbin), he had mastered a version of immortality, sleeping a 100 yrs for every 1000 yrs, saying he had done that over a 100 times, while sometimes changing out bodies. What is particularly interesting is that he describes what we would call astral projection while he slept, traveling the universe. He talks about some of the peoples he found on various planets, including a truly god-like people that could create matter from thought. So you have a so-called god, saying he found a people that were actual gods. He also describes reaching the ends of the universe, & being chased back into his body. He gives advice on how to escape the celestial hounds that guard the edge of the universe. Pretty freaky stuff. Most of the book is actually on science, vibrational & what we might call quantum mechanics. -Give it a go sometime. He says you need to read it 100x (he’s fond of that number) in order to “get it.” I’m only on my 5th time. A novice. Oh, and he said he left a space ship buried deep under Giza. The way to get it out, is to alter its phase (presumably by thought). He says in the future, Earth will be attacked by an outside party. But man will just be advanced enough to figure out how to raise his ship from the ground, & handedly defend the planet from the invaders. -I told you it was freaky stuff.

Songful III “The Emerald Tablets.” There are numerous videos of it being narrated on KZbin. It’s mostly science, but he goes into other things as well. He has a hypnotic cadence & covers some pretty heavy topics, trying to explain reality, so it might be difficult to digest in a single sitting, but I highly recommend it nonetheless. He forces you to think. For instance, like how heat & cold are not opposites, but actually exist on a spectrum & are a matter of perspective. Then he’ll relate that love & hate are not opposites, but instead exist on a spectrum, & are merely a matter of perspective as well. The topics get so heady, you have to stop occasionally & regroup, trying to absorb what you just read (or had read to you, as the case may be)

The King of Atlantis was named Atlas so that story of atlas being a teacher of an advanced science is very interesting. Additionally the ancient map of Northern Africa places the location of Atlantis in the Eye of the Sahara or the ricot st,ructure just south of the Atlas Mountains. This is a pretty cool connection.

I would assume that the version where Hercules steals the apples himself happens in the timeline where Atlas was turned into a mountain. In this version, there is a prophecy about the son of Zuse stealing apples. If the prophecy was made then Atlas doesn't help Percius and therefore is not able to help Hercules so Hercules has to steal the apples himself, thus fulfilling the prophecy. If the prophecy was not made then Atlas would help Percius and therefore not be turned into a mountain and be able to help Hercules and thus the apples are not stolen by a son of Zuse. Also since we live in a world where there are Atlas mountains and not Pillars of Hercules the version with the prophecy makes more sense but I prefer the version without.

Hey John! Have you heard of The City of Brass or The Kingdom of Copper by S. A. Chakraborty? A lot of her source material is from Middle Eastern and Persian mythology. It'd be really interesting to see some videos on where djinn/jinn or genies come from, not to mention the other mythological creatures that are in the book.

Hi Jon Solo. Here's a thought. Maybe you could give a presentation on the messed up originals on novels in addition to stories. Some examples could be the three musketeers, Olivier twist, white fang etc. I really loved reading those books as i growing up into teens and i moved from the fairy tales. But with regards to persus and the medusa head, one story suggest that he had the medusa head shown to him so that he could be turned into stone since he was getting weary and tired from the punishment zeus gave him

I'm pretty sure Asia and Clymene are both the same person. First of all, they are both oceanids. Asia was the wife of Iapetus, according to Apollodorus. But Clymene was too, and Iapetus is not really known for adultery. It's possible that Apollodorus just wanted distinguish Hesiod's name, Clymene, with Phaeton's mother, Clymene by Helios, the sun god. (You should totally do a video on him or Phaeton.) As for the Aether theory, well I've never heard that and I think you should just stick with Asia/Clymene as the mother of Atlas. Also, fun fact, Clymene is the titan goddess of fame but there were many, many other Clymenes in Greek Mythology. Search Clymene on Wikipedia if you want. Also, I'm pretty sure Atlas got the job of holding the sky due to the titanomachy and not the "Olympian Revolution." And also, it is most likely that the Perseus story (about the actual titan) is incorrect. However the others, may have been true, just about a different Atlas. The titan is immortal and thus, cannot be turned to stone (maybe) and also, even if he could have, like you said, chronologically that doesn't make sense, because Heracles, Perseus' descendant, meets him, not as a mountain. Some versions even say he turned into a mountain (not the Pillars of Hercules) after the encounter with Heracles, which is weird but can still make sense. This is probably to make sense of the Mountains called the Atlas Mountains. But for sure, Atlas did meet Heracles, and probably not Perseus, and they didn't meet on different timelines, because that would be weird.
