I'm 63. I remember her show with Clifton Davis back when I was a kid. Such a beautiful and talented woman. I'm glad she held on even during betrayals and financial hardships. She could have ended like Whitney Houston after marrying the wrong person. But Melba is still here, thank God!! Many blessings to her and her daughter. 🧡🧡🙏🙏

Charles Huggins brother Nebraska (Beau) was my classmate in a small town in South Carolina. When he graduated in 1973, he went to NY and joined Hush Production with his brother Charles. They use to bring Melba down to that small town in SC, at least once a year. The whole town was all in an uproar when she came down with them. She was a superstar then. Then years later we heard about the mistreatment and breakup. It was a sad story. Charles eventually went to jail for many crimes. Rumors was that she became hooked on drugs, ended up on welfare and was a just a hot mess, and that he was a crook and had many, many girlfriends.

She's always been one of my favorites! I won a talent contest with "It Ain't Easy Being Green" back in the early 70's. By the time I graduated from High School in the mid-70's I could see, vocal talent was not enough to get her to the top. Unless you have people you can trust, or better yet, knowledge of how the industry works, you're at a major disadvantage 😢.

THE most amazing thing about people in the industry especially the black man in their involvement with their women in the Intertainment industry was the look in their eyes like, they Knew they was there but it was nothing to grap on too , floating , not even their women that they were with allowed a grip. Yes the talent was there for these black women but the reasons they was able make come backs when they fell off was unseen at the time , like Ike and Tina , the attack om the black male masculinity was the base of it, to the black man it must have felt like standing on shakey ground being pressured in all sought of unnatural ways even if the women had to go through that too, at least it was a more natural thing for them if you know what I mean. So things was behind the seen than , but these days we see them in full view. .
