The entire ending sequence with Samus and The Baby Metroid is so perfect. And I just love the way The Baby remains floating around the cabin of the ship during the menu afterwards. There is also the connection they share at having lost their entire families/civilizations in their youth; Samus at the hands of Ridley, and The Baby at the doing of Samus. The whole thing is equal parts beautiful and tragic.

I have to be honest. I actually started to feel bad for them even before the start of the game. I know I said they were too dangerous to be used, but I could never have the courage to perform genocide on an extinction level. That's just...too much. But I wonder why so far, this was the only one not to attack. Even the other infants started attacking after hatching. Is their behavior influenced somehow by the, let's say aura in lack of a better word, of the people around them and their environment ? It did not occured to me before, but they drain life energy. They must be more sensitive to that kind of stuff.

Dread actually explains that. Samus has Thoha tribe blood in her and those Chozo were able to control the Metroids until they evolved. The baby responded to her because it was just a hatchling and it recognized her as a Chozo.

@@GamerThumbTV At first I was honestly going to respond with "but wait, that doesn't explain why other metroid larvas attacked her on sight", but then the realization hit: every time she had encountered the metroids up until that point, they were mostly ones that were being abused and experimented on by the space pirates, whereas the one that hatched right before her was completely fresh and new to the world, so it wasn't bound to be nearly as aggressive by comparison. I'm certain that chozo DNA along with the imprinting aspect also helped a ton as well, but either way it almost feels as if they're just like any other predatory species, where they can (hopefully) actually be chill with others if they're treated/trained right and are well fed, which sadly doesn't seem likely to happen considering both the federation and space pirate's attitudes towards them.

It actually makes sense because you see her doing this exact thing in Other M. She activates certain features of her suit instead of collecting the same upgrades she should already have.

Here's a freaking thought. The transformation between Metroid stages seems to mirror Darwinian evolution at a highly accelerated rate. How many stages do you think we have to go through before we get Metroid Cavemen?

This was the basic Metroid lifecycle. If left alone, a larva would eventually grow into an Omega and, if it has the genetic factor needed, one could grow into a queen, kind of like how only specific larva in a beehive grow to become a queen. Alpha to Zeta Metroids are smilimar to pupa insects. Omega is as far as it goes unless it has the genetic ability to go farther, in which case the Queen is the final form for that specific Metroid. This specific planet just sped up the process of a natural lifecycle. Calling it a mirror of evolution is overstating things.

Wow I mean Wow.. I love it so much. Part 8 was just incredible to witness right there. I mean it all makes sense now within Metroid Samus return. At the ending of that game I've been wanting to know if Nintendo will actually do the same with Metroid Fusion cause it's been 5 years since that game came out. But who knows if Nintendo will do it both the 3DS and the Switch.. I just hope the wait will be worth it for Metroid Prime 4..

Serious question. If Samus requires special suits and abilities to even access areas, and she needs special weapons as well, then why be worried about space pirates finding this stuff? How would the space pirates realistically capture and breed these creatures without these special features?

Great question, and it comes down to the gameplay vs story argument. You the player need all this stuff to get to Point A, but somehow the bad guys are already in these areas without the upgrades.

Pirates do have the intelligence to try and reverse engineer what the chozo have done. Not at a even 50 percent rate but best not allow them to refine the methods. Its also been shown that they have no problem still trying to use it to their advantage against their foes.

I'm noticing some revisionist or interpretive items (example: we don't actually know what happens to Samus' upgrades between most games, while here it's presented as her turning them back on over time). In the name of a coherent story, I think it's fair enough, and likely fits within the bounds of your disclaimer at the start. That concern aside, I think the video is well put together and as always pleasant to watch. I remember being quite excited once I got Samus Returns booted up the first time on my 3ds - for that matter, it was one of a couple games I got the system for. So glad MS got the chance to make it and the next game (setting concerns about MS raised later aside).

Metroid 2 is the only game in the series i have yet to play and though i am aware it will be a downgrade from Dread, i still wish to play it. If only Nintendo would port it to the Switch. One off the things i love about this Remake is it makes Prime canon, which it really wasn't before, even though the Prime games make it very clear why Metroid 2 has to happen as just having the original alone wasn't enough off a reason to eradicate a whole species.

Prime was always canon. Some fans have only said it wasn't canon because some comments from the series producer were taken out of context years ago during an interview. Some fans also consider Prime not canon because it wasn't made by Nintendo of Japan. By that logic Dread wouldn't be canon either.

I completely forgot the Metroids were created to contain something far worse. That they were a necessary evil. I guess the Illusive Man was right. Destroying is far more risky than controlling. I think this saga does a good job in having us think about middle terms when it comes to evolution. I hope Samus and her baby not only end up ok, but start redeeming the species. That's kinda what I hoped "Resident Evil" would pull off. But the saga clearly lost its way. Such a shame. Imagine how funny and thought provoking stories with BOW protagonists would be.

On a technical note, isn't trying to capture 3DS audio through Citra a huge pain in the ass? I'm not sure why it comes out so bad. I have a few vids on my channel too (including SR). I tried all kinds of different methods including various compressors and equalizer profiles, capturing at different volume levels, etc. LLE audio probably is more accurate but I can't get any game to run at a remotely playable speed using it. I guess it's just a limitation of the current state of the emulator. Don't get me wrong, the work on Citra has been incredible. Just venting my frustrations lol. Great video as always, for some reason I missed this one when it came out

You need to have a fairly powerful PC to run these games at high resolution with clean audio. Some still aren't quite there yet. Like Luigi's Mansion 2 and Starfox 64 3D are still very unplayable

@@ladyaceina no it is a perfect iteration of 2 and respects it's design while improving overall gameplay. Innovation a good game does not make. AM2R is my 2nd favorite game in the series with super metroid being my favorite. I care little for innovation, I care about a game that has great gameplay, and if it is a remake that it respects the original. AM2R respects the orignal down to the map almost being identical. Samus returns is so far removed from what metroid 2 was that I cant consider it a remake at all. Also samus returns runs at 30fps and i dont play with that nonsense

Since I fell like being a jerk and chronically historically accurate and calling out Nintendo. Two bad this game sold not so good what do you expect when your the second remake that’s not free to access that came out two years after the really first remake of retutn am2r. You send a letter threatening to sue and only succed shoring down the original site after a day. But you were to late the game had been upload to other sights and servers were it’s still accessible. You had the nerve to steal the credit for what the fans accomplished first. Tisk tisk tisk Shame on you nintendo for the rest of your existence.
