Funny true story, my wife worked in a U.S. hospital and the hospital would send Scouts to Mexico looking for nurses for the U.S. shortages they would offer bonuses, cars and help with homes and they still had a hard time finding nurses becouse they did not want to leave Mexico and there families, lived in Mexico over 45 years never seen a cartel war not even a shooting, not to say it cant happen, I don't feel unsafe at all in Mexico, go where I want, when a want, just be smart, you don't park your car on the street with a home stereo set on your front sets, most stuff is panni anie, not to say nothing can possible happen it can happen anywhere, the cartel's and crime is exaggerated push be exaggerated news report and fake $$$click videos about the cartels,. even the president of Mexico said Mexico is safer then many places then in the U.S. when of the many things I like about Mexico "THERES NO KARENS"

Adis Daniel

Hi Jose, I found this video very enjoyable to watch. It was as if I was walking the path with you. It was nice to see the people of Mérida walking around and not a lot of expats, which is what you get with expat videos. I will be moving to Mérida in about a week and I’m a senior on a fixed income, so I plan to live modestly. As you stated, there are areas in the U.S. where I could have moved but it would have been out in the sticks with nothing around. I’d have to have a shotgun and pistol at my bedside just to feel safe at night. In Mérida, I am safe and have modern conveniences at my fingertips. Who could ask for better?

José, you’re so right. I was watching a KZbinr that was house hunting, and she kept looking at this brand new homes that looked more “American.” She was also looking for one that great amenities. Look, Mexico is big, and there are a lot of ways to travel. People, especially if they’re retired, take your money and leave modestly, and if you didn’t get the chance to travel much in the US, then do that in Mexico. There are many beaches, mountains, cenotes, etc. to explore. Living modestly can also help to save money to travel abroad. That’s the way I see it. Great video!

Don't worry about anything. Americans who don't have travel experience, whether they move to Mexico, parts of Europe or parts of Africa, they will not be able to instantly adapt to the culture. I've noticed that several you tubers who moved to Merida, they wound up coming back to the United States. An inexpensive place, doesn't mean that it's a good fit. Before moving anywhere, especially if you don't have travel experience, consider visiting for 3 - 6 months.

Google the average income of what an average Mexican lives on. I don't really drink but I do have a beer every now and then. I live in an upper class neighborhood where I can walk to get everything I need. I only use my car to drive me and my surfboard to the beach and to go to the "Big" mercado when I'm unable to carry all of the things I'm buying. I go out to eat a few times a week and the most I've ever spent is $1,200us per month. $1600us per month is considered middle class in Mexico. You won't be able to just survive you'll be able to live life like a Rey!

I want to wish you good luck on your dream, if you want it you can make it happen, look up Duolingo, they offer a free language program to learn Spanish, once you move there look for a group you can join where both expats and Mexican people learn from each other, so many are eager to learn and practice English than you can help each other out and make some friendships.

I think it would be WISE for the Mexican Government to create laws that put limit on buyers rent cost. Right now, their cost of salary is low but their currency goes so much further and they get so much more for their money than many nations. IN this day and age that is a very strong point for their country. What will happen, especially in this growing surge of foreigners wanting to buy up Mexican properties, investors are in fact raising prices sky high than what their native property owners who s income and living is Mexican, to have investors come in buy property near tourist spots, then jack up prices to like Cayman islands prices almost, is in the long run going to cause harm to the country. Tourism and money it brings is very important to Mexico and the citizens. So the government limiting either sales to non born Mexicans, or limit the amount they can raise rent should be first priority. YES they will get higher revenue for taxes if they get people to rent there paying higher amount, but a lovely place with low cost is the large point people will consider this place to travel vs Americas or other places with oceans. America wanting the tourism money to be spent here in the US competes with Mexico. So exaggerating problems there is bad enough. I have seen some non Native Mexicans who buy property jacking up prices for tourists so they can get rich. THAT hurts tourism. THEIR strong point is, cool places, ocean beaches and affordable. They should hang on to their strong points at all costs. Shame on greedy people wanting to get rich off of Mexican land, and not consider what that will do to tourism the more they jack the prices up.

San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, is the by far the cheapest and, according to many Mexicans and foreigners alike, the most beautiful. According to a former Méxican president, "San Cristóbal de las Casas es el pueblo más mágico de todos los pueblos mágicos de México." I've lived for extended periods in both Yucatán (Merida, Chichén Itza, Valladolid) and San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, and San Cristóbal de las Casas takes the cake.

Remisas and invertira in Mexico has pushed the dollar down. But the remisas have been around a long time. Now their is a push for near shoring. Plants in Mexico will be exporting to US. If the peso is too high over time it will motivate business to make it somewhere else. Politically about the only thing the 2 parties in the US is that they both have issues with China. But who knows how much nearshoring happens?

I like you videos...the bait click titles not so much. Mexico, it's wonderful people, and beautiful culture exists regardless of what "dream" titles people invent and chase. I'm not sure if u tubers are helping more than hurting.

Thank you for the kind words. Not sure what you mean by click baity. If you mean I am trying to get more people to watch my videos then yes you caught me red handed. The reality is that the dream is over for many a lot quicker than they anticipated but for others it has not. I only speak from experience and you know as well as I know Mexico is not for everyone and many people are not ready for all the changes that come from living in another country. I can't speak for other youtubers but what I try to show in my videos is the reality of what it is to live in Mexico. The good, the bad, and the ugly so that the viewer can get a true feel for what it is like to live in Mexico before they make any decisions. I get just as many thank yous from people letting me know I saved them from making a costly mistake in moving to Mexico. We can all make our own options as to what is going on and then there is the reality of what is going on. Thats why I point the camera forward and let it speak for itself. Thanks again for sharing. Saludos

Thank you for your thoughtful response. It's nice to see you are the real deal, in my opinion! By click bait tile, I mean the headline " is the Mexican dream over" hurts me personally because I love it here! The dream is never over. Many unhappy expats move here for price only ( as you've stated 70% won't assimilate) . The simple truths you state so well in your vids , don't need catchy titles that cause a click, in my opinion. That's all I was trying to express and so sorry I did not state it more clearly! Thank you for what you do! I will continue to watch! Ken

Hello... I live in Chihuahua Capital. I drive constantly in and out from the border... One thing I can assure you is that there is some kind of evil vibe , kind of like something is about to explode once you get into the USA. Not like in Mexico, where even a blind would get the license and drive, I mean the normal chaos from stupid ppl on the road... I am talking hatred there. So money wether you have or not, it would make sense for ppl to leave a place where peace is not found.

My wife and I live in Kansas City and have been looking at MX for a while. Cost is similar to where we live, so it's not a savings as much as a lifestyle change. Affordability isn't our issue. It's meeting the financial requirements for residency. My understanding is that we can't include rental property income to qualify and without it just miss the cut offs. That part is frustrating, but I totally understand that Mexico sets the rules and has to do what's best for them. It is becoming a dream killer and has us looking at other countries like Costa Rica.

Yeah the reality is that many Mexicans that go to work in the US or Canada have to do so under many restrictions. So when it come down to it these days many Mexican would rather just stay home and close to friends and family and just earn like 10% less. Many years ago it was worth it because you could earn 100% more. But not these days. The tides are changing
