So we’re going to break down what exactly Keaton’s role will be in this film and what his Batman has been up to all these years. What other villains did he face? Did he ever have a Robin? Did he ever have kids?
And what tragic event led to him hanging up the cape and cowl and becoming the reclusive and defeated looking Bruce Wayne we saw a glimpse of in this trailer.
But to answer all of that and more, we need to start with some history. [clip]
Michael Keaton’s Batman was the 2nd Batman to grace the big screen in Tim Burton’s 1989, Batman.
Doug: 2nd Batman? I thought Keaton was the first big screen Batman?
Well actually buddy, Adam West’s Batman movie got a theatrical release in 1966. But to be fair, Keaton’s Batman was really the first gritty and more realistic superhero movie. It was a first of its kind.
The film's villain was the Joker, portrayed by Jack Nicholson. [clip]
And despite a little corniness here and there, it still holds up great over 30 years later. And the same can be said for its sequel, Batman Returns, which came out in 1992. This one gave us Danny Devito as Oswald Cobblpot, The Penguin. [clip]
And before she was the MCU’s Janet Vandyne, Michelle Phifer brilliantly portrayed Selina Kyle’s Catwoman. [clip, meow]
We think Selina Kyle will have played a major role in Keaton’s Batman’s unknown history. And we think we may even hear her mentioned in The Flash. But more on that in a bit.
Now following Keaton’s two Batman films, we got the infamous Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. These films are kind of sort of part of Keaton’s universe, but at the same time they’re not.
Batman Forever saw Val Kilmer take up the cape and cowl. And ‘Batman and Robin’ had bat nipples himself, George Clooney. [clip]
These films villains were Jim Carey’s Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones’ Two Face, Uma Thurman's Poison Ivy, Arnold Schwartanager’s Mr. Freeze, and they even had a Bane. [clip]
Now the characters that connect all of these films together are Alfred and Commissioner Gordon, who were played by the same actors in all four films. [clip, funny Alfred clip]
Now had these films not been so god awful, they’d probably be welcomed with open arms as canon to Keaton’s universe. [clip, get over here!]
But with the abandonment of the darker, more gritty tone of the first two films. And the return to the more goofy style of comic book movie filmmaking from before. Not only did it derail the Batman franchise-but superhero movies as a whole.
It wasn’t until 2000’s X-Men that superhero movies started being taken seriously again. [clip]
So anyway, most fans for headcanon sake, don’t acknowledge Batman Forever and Batman and Robin as canon to Keaton’s Bat-Verse. You could say they exist in a variant timeline that the TVA just hasn’t got around to pruning yet. [clip, owen Wilson wow]
Now while 1992’s Batman Returns was the last time we saw Keaton in the flesh as Batman. It wasn’t the last time we saw Keaton depicted as the character. There’s a comic called Batman ‘89 that serves essentially as a third installment in the Keaton trilogy that never was. And we’ve seen the CW DC Universe reference Keaton’s Batman as well.
Let’s start with the comic. The villain of this third installment, similar to Batman Forever, is Harvey Dent’s Two Face. But, it’s not Tommy Lee Jones, it’s Billy Dee Williams. [clip, Lando, well hello, what have we here?]
In the first Keaton Batman film, Billy Dee played Harvey Dent. And the comic honors that fact and draws Harvey Dent in the likeness of Billy Dee. This comic also gives the character Harvey Dent and Two Face so much more depth than Batman Forever. [clip]

I saw a video on here about this. Apparently, there was a comic in the 80s that kinda summed up Batman's twilight years as being completely alone, and without purpose. His two greatest fears. Where, he is completely alone because everyone else had moved on with their lives, Catwoman passed away from an illness, and Gotham no longer needed a Batman.

Theory time: Bruce slept with Vicki Vale in 1989 Batman. She unknown to Bruce, gets pregnant. She decides that the best thing is to not let Bruce know and move away. Bruce's life continues as normal. At some point after the child is born, Vale is involved in a story on the League of Shadows. Following that exposing story, the League finds Vale, offs her, and discovers the child named Damian. Damian is raised in the league up to about 2010 (20 years old). At this point he connected with Bruce, who had married Salina Kyle. Tells Bruce everything. The League comes after Bruce, unknown to Damian, because the league used him to lure The Batman out. Damian died, Salina died, and this is what throws Bruce into seclusion and retirement.

Micheal Keaton Batman went out one evening and noticed a Wu Tang Symbol in the sky. As he investigated this mysterious look alike symbol, he came to the realization that the Wu Tang Clan is for the children. This realization came after a long fight with an Old Dirty Bastard and a Masta Killa near a Snow beach. While playing Chess with Alfred the next evening, Batman understood the the Wu Tang Clan was nothing to Fu× With. So he met the GZA who just happened to be the head of this Voltron like group. They met in GZAs 4th Chamber where a Ghostface Killa was sharpening his liquidswords to the sound of a RZA beat while a Killah Priest gave the prophecy of a better tomorrow. The Chef Raekwon prepared a marvelous meal for them to talk about how this group could bring the rukus to all foes and incarcerated scarfaces. During this meal time a Man of many different Methods arrived and warned Batman that he would need to learn a Tiger Style technique in order to help the group Triumph in all battles. The world is yours Batman, U God shouted, and we will help you in any Gravel Pits you may find yourself. Before Batman left Cappadonna milked a cow the best way he knew how and offered a drink to Batman and asked can't it be that it was all so simple then referring to the days of battling street criminals. The newly aligned Wu Tang Batman Clan was now a supreme clientele of heroes who were ready to fall on anyone's head like a tragedy. 🦇🙌🏾

@sisterseeth
@sisterseeth Жыл бұрын
@@evanzaremba4722 Didn't exist as in "was never in the cards" or didn't exist as in "it didn't come to pass?" Because, if the latter, that's why I said that it's a black hole...It's been a few yrs since I've seen a few vids and Keaton/Burton comments, but what I remember is Batman 3 was given the go to Burton before Returns even wrapped, who immediately began concept art and preliminary storyboards after production wrapped on Returns... But, because Batman Returns received so much backlash from parents (McDonalds made a Happy Meal deal with the studio) who took their kids to what they expected to be a kid's movie, but found the elevated violence compared to the first one (fueled mostly by the violence against women, which I have to admit is true lol) empathetic attitude toward villains and exploding penguins, etc - well, the parents just properly flipped out. It was financially destitute Karens with their $2 Happy Meals and obviously malnutritioned, gleeful children on the national news for weeks. They got this lil kid to fake cry on camera...it was a whole thing, and such BS because it's not like the first one was a singalong. So yeah, there are entire docs (at least 2 that I watched, but one that's like an hour) somewhere here on the Tubes. They tried to get Keaton on board for the family friendly version, and he begrudgingly agreed, and then the studio double-crossed Burton on the writing aspect, saying he could direct but had no creative input, and Keaton told em to fk off. IN fact, the studio realized they made a bad call and (I think) tried to get him to come on for the Batman and Robin installation (where they did return to the dark-comedy Gotham format in an attempt to cash in again) and neither he, nor Burton agreed. Keaton's Batman is cursed or something...he's been told he was coming back several times for these DCU reboots, and he keeps getting flaked on. In fact, if I remember correctly, that Birdman movie he did was given to him by a director or studio who had worked out a Batman role, and felt bad that it didn't happen. They did something similar to Burton with his Nicolas Cage Dark Superman effort. Idk who Burton pissed off, but there for a few yrs. he was semi-blacklisted. Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, etc were coming on the music scene, and there was this whole tantrum from rich conservative funding sources concerning the romanization or kiddifying(?) of dark/occult/anarchaic themes. Obviously, the money they missed because the public wasn't resistant to it, won out in the end. Same as Blomkamp's Alien 5...fully flushed out storylines, some contracts (although I don't think the official "green light" yet for either of them), a rabid fandom who wanted it to happen, but a55holes gotta a55hole. If you're an Alien fan and haven't heard of the Blomkamp Alien 5 thing, I'd advise against getting the details, because I'm a grown ass man and it still pisses me off lol. If I run across the Batman 3 doc again, i'll post here.

And it was for Batman Returns before the character was cut. When Warner Bros. told Joel Schumacher that they wanted to bring in the character of Dick Grayson/Robin for Batman Forever, Lee and Janet Scott Batchler read every version of Robin's origin story, and they turn to their assistant, who grow up in the circus and she's part of a big circus family that are aerialists. And they had Robin (Dick Grayson) with a big circus family. Joel Schumacher had Leonardo DiCaprio, Ewen McGregor, Jude Law, Alan Cumming, Toby Stephens, Scott Speedsman, and Mark Wahlberg on the list, but once they had Chris O'Donnell as Robin, it's a good thing.

Michael Keaton is the fourth actor to play Batman on the big screen. First was Lewis Wilson in the 1943 15 chapter serial Batman and then Robert Lowery in the 1949 15 chapter serial Batman and Robin (aka New Adventures of Batman and Robin, the Boy Wonder).

I think one can argue that Superman 3 was the first gritty superhero movie LOL.

Batman beyond really is the swansong of Batman‘s legacy to a younger audience so I can’t see Michael Keaton is Batman die at the end of this that’s my opinion though

The rumors of Keaton's 3rd Batman movie were that Robin Williams was gonna play the Riddler. Can you imagine how much of a masterpiece that would have been?

First "gritty" superhero movie = Donner's Superman. Blade made superhero movies serious again. Not X-Men.

There was nothing gritty about donners superman at all. Dolph Lundgrens Punisher was far more gritty and that came out before Batman.

Gritty is probably not the right word, but it was something new at the time, a big budget superhero film for general audiences with adult themes. Man, only one year after Star Wars, I remember running around/playing with those two John Williams scores playing as my theme song all the time!

I’m only interested in speculation about what would happen in a fight between historically accurate warriors. Armored and un armored. All weapons available. Mounted and un mounted. I think the fairer fight would be high- Viking era(armored un mounted) and Samurai (same). The European knight is out of both leagues. The only advantage to the other two is archery, and if I’m not mistaken the Viking used a more powerful bow. Also the Viking threw a powerful spear and I don’t know if the samurai even threw a spear.

I don't know you guys but in my opinion it's also very likely that Keaton's Batman along with Supergirl Street haven't died either but resurrected as theoretically the mature Barry (and not the young Barry) again he altered the timeline by arranging some things in the past with the tomato can so that it returned a little to normal, As the mature Barry told the young Barry that the only way to save them both was to let Barry's mother die by leaving how things as intended and thus probably making Michael Keaton's Batman back to his land alive And making Supergirl return back to the capsule where she was locked but also alive and making the contacts that had with Flash never happened. It’s just a theory of mine, nothing more. For this I wish an other solo movie of Batman starring by Michael Keaton as Batman again, only one more. But without the presence of Flash of Ezra Miller, without the presence of Terry Mcginnies, without the presence of this batgirl of leslie grace 👎🏻 and without the presence of the characters of this comic Batman '89, except Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman. I wish than include also the return of Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, Chris O'Donnell as Nightwing and Alicia Silverstone as Oracle. And also only as a suggestion that they include to the beautiful and sexy actress Samara Weaving as Helena as a new member of the family.

Did you get your idea for DW from Huntress? In Birds of Prey tv show they used images of Bat & Cat in Batman Returns style. Helena Wayne has worn a Robin costume, even had her life saved by DG. Which ever they pic a better reveal than the Bat suit with spray paint.

I would have loved the "Spiderman" treatment of this film. Give me Keaton, Bale, Affleck, and Pattinson. Even just a quick glimpse. And if you really wanna get crazy, use some skillful CGI and find a way to squeeze Kevin Conroy, Adam West, Lewis Wilson, and Val Kilmer (I know Val is still with us, but he's not feeling well) in there too. I'd even be happy to see Clooney and David Mazouz from Gotham. If you're going to do it wrong, do it right! Did I miss any Batmen? Surely there are more!
