"Anthony "Mighty Gabby" Carter (born 30 March 1948) is a legendary Barbadian calypsonian and a Cultural Ambassador for the island of Barbados. He is the youngest calypsonian to win the calypso crown in Barbados at age 19 in 1968 and went on to win the Calypso king title again in 1969, 1976, 1985, 1999, 2000 and again in 2010. He has penned over 700 songs and was awarded Folk Singer Of The Year in 1977, 1978, 1979
The "Mighty Gabby" has been writing and singing calypso music for over 40 years, and is known for his satirical songs criticizing politicians and cultural trends. He won the first ever Crop-Over road march title in 1979 with "Burn Mr. Harding" and again in 1982 with "Jack" (dah beach is mine). He received the 2005 Clement Payne National Hero Award and awarded the Living Legend Award at the first ever Barbados Music Awards in January 2006. He is a vocal Pan-Africanist.
Gabby's no-holds-bars lyrics drew criticism politicians who tried to stifle his expression."

Trini here 🇹🇹! I remember this track and I am supporting the Lucian people. This is all over the damn Caribbean and Central America. Neo- Colonialism is no myth! It's alive and well. From telling you how to sing, cook, dance, rule over our people, pushing agendas, appropriation of our lands and cultural expressions. Disgusting!

Remember my parents and their friends partying to this tune on Saturday nights in our living room in the early eighties. My dad passed on 20 years ago but this is still a favorite of my mom's today. I play it for her whenever she comes back home to Guyana on vacation. Oh, the good times. They'll never be times like these anymore. I'm glad I experienced that era. The Mighty Mighty Gabby. Salute to you sir!❤❤

On holiday in Barbados in 1982 this song was on the radio quite a bit along with Miss Barbados, and a couple of others that stuck in my mind. Despite liking the songs, we had never caught the exact titles or the artists. I tried to find it when I returned to England but I was unaware of the record shops in Ladbroke Grove that might have been able to answer my query. The internet was an unimagined future dream, so I telephoned the radio station in Barbados to ask. Thanks to the breakthrough of Arrow and their single "Hot Hot Hot" we did at least have a few places that knew what Soca was but I still didn't get a copy of this until years later when I lived near Notting Hill.

the sad thing is so many of black people still feel that white people is superior to us, we treat each other like crap yet gave homeage to "massa." we watch the negative shit that display on tv about us and we buy into the lie. we as a people have yet to liberate our selves from metal slavery. it s a serious disease among us as black people. we sing the song from bob marley yet majority of us are still enslaved. emancipation begins when we go back to our roots to find out who we are, before slavery, we put our people and race first above others, other races of people have no problem doing it, but it seem like its us black people who are harshly criticize if we dare say our people first and what worst ,by our own people. that the worst form of mental slavery

Always thought that “Jack” referred to the Union Jack, or the UK in general. Did not realize he was a local politician. This is a brilliant song, and really not much has changed. Was at Six Mens’ bay the other day and the Nation newspaper was talking to the locals about redevelopment. The locals wanted a proper fish market. What they will likely get is another development property such as the one already there. “Jack” will always advance the interests of big money.
