All i will say about being a veteran needing health care is out of sight out of mind, from our experience.

Veterans should have health care over and above what regular people get! They earned it by their service!

More empty waffle, more empty posturing. I did 30 and have much experience in identifying bs. This is yet more bs......at a cost to the taxpayer of course. At least 8000 ex servicemen on the streets. Not much help for them.

There is a big difference between "being" veteran aware and "doing" veteran aware. It's utter nonsense in my opinion and those Trusts that are being veteran aware are just ticking boxes. My experience of being a veteran and trying to get suitable help from the NHS in my area has been pretty poor. Yes I got some help but was it suitable for my condition as a veteran? Not at all, its easier to just keep your mouth shut and get on with it as best you can. Sound familiar?

You are right however, I think the NHS is getting better at this. It will come with time like most things in this country. That does not change what you have experienced. Stay safe. By Dand.

Spot on, Brother! I helped (pushed) my local mental health Trust (where I’m a service user) towards being a Veteran Aware Trust; pushed them to sign the Armed Forces Covenant and go for ERS accreditation. Now they have the shiny prizes they don’t want to know us anymore or, actively, engage with Veterans or members of the Armed Forces Community. Now I just want to do what I can to strip their shiny prizes away from them or make it REALLY difficult for them to achieve re-accreditation. Op Courage for me soon, methinks.

After all these years only half of trusts aware ? So this is a 50% failure of governments ,trusts to give out information. Makes you wish you were an illegal immigrant

I gave up as a veteran trying to get mental health. I got quicker help in Germany.

I expected to come onto this video and look at the comments, seeing a disgruntled veteran complaining about the shocking services they're given. My expectation was met, unsurprisingly.

All I see here is reference to hospital treatments. I am having to wait for over a month for a GP appointment and then I can only have a phone call, which I need to be ready for. If I miss that call I need to book another appointment and wait another month. Veterans aside, anyone having to wait over a month on any medical issue is not getting a service from the NHS.

The NHS is under heavy strain at the moment due to staffing shortages, the NHS isn't the problem the Government who funds them is.

In my time there was no such thing as PTSD as a real problem, it was a case of "Pull your socks up....." Although I needed help years ago with Rage, nightmares, etc there was no help! In fact it was something to be ashamed of..............................

As a disabled veteran in Scotland I have and still am fighting get treatment for spinal injuries received whilst serving. The veterans covenant here not worth the paper it is written on. More so MPs and MSPs not interested either paid lip service.

As a veteran of the armed forces, I think all hospitals should be veteran aware, as we the veterans are in every location of mainland Uk and the British bases in Europe IE: Cypress, Germany and Gibraltar. However I feel there will be a minority of blaggers out there trying to cash in on the services offered to veterans in the way of health and welfare care. So how can hospitals differentiate between true honourable veterans and blagging parasites? Pte Mander ex Queens own Oxfordshire Hussars, 39th Signals.

I’m seeing and, addressing this video 1 year down the line. I see nothing new, for me and my wife, who are former serving veterans, of 22 years for myself, former SAS, or my wife, 8 years Royal Signals. I’ve had serious health issues myself over the last 3 years, yet I’m fortunate enough to have a somewhat healthy wife, for now. I was told during my service that, if I had any health issues after my service, Dental or otherwise, I could always be treated in a Military Hospital, for my ailments. As part of the covenant for former serving members. What utter rubbish. I’ve had to fight all the way, to get treatment for my health issues. So, forgive me if I feel you’re just paying lip-service to this. In essence, once you’re de-mobbed. Out of sight, Out of mind.
