I can't believe your talking about this .......... Just this morning I was standing in line at the local bakery to order a coffee & I was standing on my forefeet with my heals about 2cm or just under an inch of the ground. I do this all the time whenever I'm waiting for something, after ordering while waiting for my coffees, the guy behind me came up & asked what was I doing & why. I told him I ran & doing this helps strengthen & stabilize your feet, legs, glutes and hips, telling him how good your books were & he should check them out. Sadly I don't think he will as I pretty sure he doesn't do too much running & this concept was a little beyond him. As always, great vlog & thank you for taking the time to put this together. Run Strong Everyone!

Spent 4 months strengthening my feet last summer and made the full transition to barefoot shoes by the fall. I'm on my feet all day and do 20,000 steps at work as a courier and my feet feel great. I have no doubt it has done nothing but benefit my running and posture.

I just got in The Cool Impossible yesterday and will order the FREO system. Looking forward to it. I’ve been running in Escalantes for years. Also have a pair of Xeros on my nightstand but haven’t worn them. I assume I should transition slowly. Enjoy Arizona! Love the Flagstaff area for running

... by the way your advice and recommendations for running training and minimalist / lower sole running shoes have made a huge difference in my immediate strength and consistent running technique - has never been better - once and for all (apparently) eliminating old recurring injuries / overloads in both feet; that is, no damage for a long period, in fact for the longest period of approx. 40 years. Thank you so much Eric

Got my Xero Shoes (Born to Run edition) yesterday and they fit perfectly. Started wearing them around today and they feel good. Thanks again for the sizing help

Awesome. Keep me posted and start out with short runs and see how your calves and feet respond. The shoes will feel good and make it seem like you are not doing too much. And the FREO equipment is the boards suggested for the Cool Impossible. They are incredibly challenging and unique and will really help speed up the strength - they are crazy difficult in a good way.

Great! I did order the Freo setup yesterday so looking forward to getting started on that as well. 2024 is going to be a year of building foot strength and becoming an even better runner

Your strength training excercises are so unique and have been so effective for me. I haven't seen similar excercises recommended anywhere else. How did you come about them? Did you create them yourself?

Hey, I love my crampons! 😂 I also love ice climbing, over rock climbing. I guess finesse isn't my strong suit. But I'm working hard on foot/ ankle strength, and they're definitely my weak point.

Coach Eric , what shoes do you use or suggest for ultra distance with view to a competitive finish ? A lot of my training is done in Xero Messa trail shoes as I believe it builds my strength faster than any other method . However in regard to ultras and running all out I usually wear either Inov8 or Terrex speed ultra as the protection afforded is a necessary trade off .

Sounds like you are on a great path. My goal is always one of mastery, where I continue to develop strength to be able to run as minimally or naturally as possible with my shoe choice. And that is based on distance and the protection I need on any given day in the mtns. So right now, during winter, I run almost exclusively in Xero Shoes for all the reasons you expressed. When I need more of a shoe for faster or longer, technical runs I am experimenting with Merrell Long Sky and Skyfire shoes. They have some new ones coming that are really really great. So stay tuned for more on this, as they might replace the amazing Inov8 Trailfly in my quiver, although, keeping my eye on the rebranding and transformation going on at Inov8.

@@BornToRunCoach Thanks for the wisdom . I really enjoy your videos and wisdom . ..possibly a narrative bias on my part but still., I have used both the long sky and Skyfire but I have really wide feet so couldn’t continue . I see Inov8 has a the Trailfly speed coming out , which might be worth a go ?

Its a commen problem and slightly simplified, is the reason because people just can / want to buy running shoes with features that compensate for a lack of strength / stability in the feet and often they just buy these because of positive reviews and their own ambitions and the fastest route to fantastic results and ticking off their bucket list

I was thinking the other day that gymnasts must have very strong feet, too. From flips on the balance beam to dismounts from up high, their feet seem to play a key role.

about 10 years ago i was full in on barefoot running and i have to say it was the most effective 3 years of my running experience and than i hit a rock on a gravel trail broke the 2n Met and develop a Mortons Neuroma - every time i go barefott it has the potential to flair up the Neuroma - any advice?

Try doing the Foot Core program and strength skills, instead of the barefoot running. This could replace the barefoot running but with the same results.

Never said that. But dealing with your poor calf mobility and excessive knee/ankle flexion will. Once you get past the tendinitis, foot strength then is a potent preventive.
