I think I know why there are weird differences between burntrap, ruin mimic, and tales mimic’s designs: Scott had already planned the Mimic since HW. Though he never told Steel Wool about the Mimic itself and just told them to add Glitchtrap and Burntrap (in the steel wool interview, they say Scott told them to add things they didn’t understand). In the tales epilogues, Scott explained how burntrap was the mimic (notice the tales mimic and Burntrap’s endo are similar in design) but when Steel Wool saw that fans were arguing about mimic and Burntrap, they felt they had to alter the design in ruin. And so in Ruin, Steel Wool tried modeling the Mimic redesign based off of the description in “The Mimic” which is of the first mimic, not the tales mimic which was written to look like Burntrap’s endo. Then Ruin released and fans used Mimic’s redesign as a point that it is different from burntrap. It’s very confusing, though I feel this is the most accurate explanation.

I still believe that Mimic appears in FNaF-2. it would be the ominous endoskeleton wandering through the vents and the great caroussel hall. however, that would also implicate that we play as edwin murray or that michael afton knew about edwin's creations.

Here's what I'm thinking: Glitchtrap is the mimic1 virus but more or less an offshoot of it that learns to imitate Afton due to the Freddy Fazbear Virtual experience. Meanwhile during the Pizzaplex era, the Mimic1 program would be introduced through the Storyteller. It's important to note that it's possible the program didn't derive from the circuit boards used in Help Wanted when it comes to implementing it into the Storyteller. Glitchtrap would soon turn Vanessa into Vanny as a means of escaping the VR game or as a means of just getting work done that it can't physically do at the moment. At somepoint Gregory becomes GGY due to Glitchtrap, and would soon introduce the Glitchtrap virus among the Pizzaplex. While the Storyteller was causing the animatronics to behave abnormally, bringing in Glitchtrap more or less makes them full on dangerous. Vanny would soon reactivate the Mimic and possibly uniting it with it's Glitchtrap side which gives it the desire to appear like Afton, or Springtrap in this case, maybe the suit and corpse were from Afton, maybe it came from Luca from the Story "Pressure, who knows? Security Breach happens and the Princess Quest ending happens which more or less removes Glitchtrap entirely, deposing of the Mimic's need to copy Afton. Note: I didn't come up with these points but they just made sense to me when put together.

I'm going to go against what a few other people have said and posit that the mimic was meant to be the original end boss of security breach, but because of time restrictions that didn't allow Steel Wool to set them up fully, they instead went with burntrap, as Afton is a lot easier to explain with little buildup. It doesn't fully explain Vanny, but then again, this is Security Breach, and holes are to be expected

Really great video by the way. Well have fun thinking about this. In the therapy tapes we find in the pizzaplex. We find out gregory created a program that basicly would talk back to him. Which he used as his own self therapy. Except one of the therapists notices that it sounds more like someone is responding to him. Oh and that gregory is manipulating the program. All of this is established before we get lines about animatronics being more eerie then entertaining(storyteller) and a glitch that stopped being a glitch and created an intentional set of subroutines(nexie, storyteller) all of which is said to trace back to gregory which is implied to be controlled by glitchtrap(ggy). So um ya glitchtrap was just using mimic1 to gain control of the animatronics. which is why mimic1 shows no relation to afton. Because well it isn't glitchtrap. So we're back to square one wondering who the heck is glitchtrap(unless you look at fnaf ar and realize glitchtrap was following william around, which reminds me of a certain character who appears in frights). If your wondering how a certain character from frights is still alive. There's several interesting details in frailty, under construction, and tiger rock worth noting.

Tying in with the Storyteller, if the Tiger animatronic head was (or contained) the original mimic head, that could explain how it could be reunited with its body, since the remains of the Storyteller may have been tossed down the sinkhole. That may also tie into the Blob in some way. That mass of wires needs to come from somewhere. I do think the Mimic story is one of the mimic breaking into different pieces (glitchtrap in Help Wanted, Tiger Rock aka the Storyteller, the physical mimic in the basement, etc). They receive different instructions and information, causing them to diverge. I think this is how we get some tension between different versions of the mimic (like when Grimic and Helpi fight over who should get credit for stopping MXES). Since Glitchtrap would also be in the heads of Gregory, Vanessa and who knows who else, that would be further versions that would have unique instructions, experiences, information, etc. It’s also possible that, like is hinted with the Monty Within, Glitchtrap actually installed separate AI into his followers, instead of just copying himself. We have indications from the therapy tapes that Gregory and Vanessa are ‘talking’ to someone online, either each other, or Glitchtrap presumably. I hope we get a story (or even some kind of in game flashback/mini game/email) that covers what the Mimic was up to during the pre-FNAF1 time period. Edwin reacts to seeing a tiger head animatronic, so he A- recognizes that head as being the Mimic and B - knows that something bad happened with the mimic. He might have learned about what happened to those teams, or it might relate to why the endo line got discontinued. But, it also seems that there must have been a real Tiger Rock animatronic at some point (or some kind of Tiger animatronic anyway) that Edwin knew to be the Mimic. Tigers are circus animals after all.

I personally like to headcannon that Glitchtrap is both Afton and the Mimic. I believe that in Help Wanted and Security Breach Afton was the most in control with the mimic acting as a 'body' of sorts. With the PQ ending being cannon, I think that effectively destroyed the Afton part of glitchtrap, leaving the Mimic to remain, which is why it gave up on 'acting like afton' and then started basing itself off of Gregory. This probably isnt right but its what gives me solace at least.

I have a feeling they are going to bring Afton back by just saying that the mimic was either taken or made by him and that he used it for his killings while he hid under a different name. So it may have been his first robotic humanoid. If this was the case, then one could say that afton created the mimic program aka glitchtrap and he might have been the one who gave the motherboard that contained the mimic program to test and see if it could infect or transfer to an actual living host through the use of vr (and possibly ar). Which worked vanny but also failed, and possibly realized the original mimic robot was still functional. Guess what I am saying is that they are trying to bring afton back, and these games are his experiments to ensure that he would possibly either live on in some way or to manipulate others into thinking they are someone else aka the family he lost. (Sorry if this sounds strange or silly, I literally just woke up).

I’m annoyed that the mimic is such a simultaneously ingenious (able to master and customise disguises, imitate real people convincingly to other real people, infiltrate the Pizzaplex security system, etc) and apparently stupid (apparently believes living, moving and presumably screaming humans are a suit of clothes or a carton of milk, does not correct this assumption at any point during ensuing manslaughter). I’m even more annoyed that, having vaguely cared about one set of human parent characters, I’ve now got to forget about those guys and start to care about this guy and his dead kid who wasn’t even murdered or stuffed into an animatronic. Nothing wrong with DMuted or the video, which is good, I’m just frustrated that we’re so far removed from what got me fascinated my this story to begin with. I just don't see any non-lore breaking reasons for saying Mimic is Burntrap, as they look nothing alike. Even the left hand that looks similar, even those aren't the same. Nightmare gas isn't the reason as that would've been entirely gone by the time SB happens, and is exclusive to the FNAF 4 bedroom, or something similar, which is connected to CBEAR, so it can't be connected to the Pizza Place. Another thing to note is that Mimic couldn't have been used for Help Wanted as after Edwin beat it up, it wasn't retrieved until the Pizzaplex construction was being planned, so it would have nothing important or anything at all to do with any of the older FE animatronics after the pre Withereds, given when The Mimic story takes place, which is the 80s, so it wouldn't know of Springtrap, the Phantoms, the Classics, or even the Toys, but using circuit boards and other junk from them to speed up the coding process is something FE would do, and the only "animatronic" who would have anything to do with the Phantoms, is Springtrap, as they are likely hallucinations caused by his Agony, which makes them exclusive to him, and therefore, exclusive to William Afton, and we have a Spring Bonnie like character who shows up in Help Wanted separate from Springtrap, but linked to the color purple, does heavily imply that Glitchtrap, even if not Afton's soul, has some major connection to Afton and his Agony.

Afton's Agony, or spirit, infected it essentially turning it into a William Afton 2.0, causing what we know as Glitchtrap and later Burntrap, while also still allowing Ruin Mimic or Grimic, to be Tales Mimic. It's a win win no matter what side you're on. After the weeks of arguing, name calling, referring to the Official Character Encyclopedia and Tales, we finally came to a happy medium. I'm fine with Glitch and Burntrap not truly being William Afton, as long as there's something hinting as his possible return in the future, or at least he shows up as the true villain of the final FNAF game, because of we started with Afton, we should end with him. It'd be a lot better than just "Oh look, he's back from the dead, but with no actual explanation this time!" or "Oh look, it's a book character trying to become Afton!".

But Faz-Ent's mimic can. 3. What could be "dried blood" on The Mimic was actually rust. 4. The stuff that was on Mimic's right cheek is actually mascot stuffing 5. He was made to silence the impatient theorists who wanted William to die. I don't think that makes much sense, since many famous fictional villains keep coming back too, even more than William, and yet Peepaw is the one they're targeting. And also, I don't think an undead man who came back several (actually nvm, it's just twice, I don't see how that's too much) times would suddenly just... _not_ come back. I'd honestly prefer it if Mimic was being trained by William himself directly. Maybe Peepaw would use it as an apprentice. And one point people are forgetting: there is no way the Mimic could mimic Peepaw's "I always come back" line if Will didn't tell it himself. There's definitely a Mimic there, but also a very old Peepaw.
