This was an amazing recreation and I think this is what you do best. Movies like these deserve to be remembered and revisited. Marilyn and other cast members were going through a lot of turmoil in their personal lives and in the making of this movie. How lucky are we that this piece of history is preserved for future generations and appreciated so many years later.

It's great to see a young guy take an interest in older actors and movies. Especially since both M M & C G passed away in the 1960's so long ago. Your doing fine work Thanks for keeping history alive !

This was an awesome video. I can’t tell you how much I appreciated your work here. My father passed away in 1974 and, I realize it sounds silly to some, but Clark Gable in his films became almost a surrogate father to me. In 1976 I read Lyn Tornabene’s “Long Live the King” and she goes in detail about the Misfits. Thanks to this outstanding video I can see so much of the landscape and locations referenced in the book. Great job. Great commentary. Just awesome.

@@DazewithJordantheLion honestly meant and sincerely felt! I watched The Misfits again tonight after seeing your vid... I always thought during THAT scene with Gable and his children, that he HAD seen them, but maybe he had created a scene and they left because they felt embarrassed by him.. But now, after your vlog and seeing it again, my opinion has completely changed! Perhaps it WAS just a hallucination.. which in my eyes, makes the scene even MORE extraordinary and powerful. Superb acting on Gables part.

Hi Jordan, sad that the hotel has gone now, it would have been nice to have had a quick look in. Stunning scenery on your drive out. I thought it was quite a sad film, both on and off production. I completely agree with you when you said it wasn't a film that people who liked those actors were expecting. Sad in real life for Clark, Marilyn and Montgomery. Great vlog Jordan.

This may be my favorite installment. It's gratifying to hear someone talk about the Misfits because it slips between the cracks too often. Not that it would amount to anything like the original, but someone could reshoot The Misfits in Reno and still catch at least the same atmosphere of the place. You can sense it in this Vlog.

Great vlog. I'm a "Misfits" fan myself, not only the movie but the history of the behind the scenes, which I personally think is more remembered than the movie itself. A few side notes, Kevin McCarthy also played the narrator on "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". The music director for "The Misfits" was Alex North. Arthur Miller met his 3rd wife Inge Morath, a photographer for Magnum, on the set. Their daughter Rebecca Miller is a writer and director married to Daniel Day-Lewis! Evidently, like Marilyn, Montgomery Clift did not like "The Misfits". The night before he died, the movie was showing on television. When his assistant asked if he would like to watch it, He answered "Absolutely not!"

Interesting vid, Jordan, with lots of good background info. I've seen the Misfits, but don't remember it as well as you do. That scene with Marilyn screaming out there in the desert is burned in my memory, though. You know, Gable could still take that dog into Harrah's today -- if it was an emotional support dog! 🙂

Great vlog, I love this movie so much. You know, there used to be a story that Marilyn was blamed for Clark Gable's death. That her shananigans during the movie, not showing up on time, not knowing her lines, etc., caused his heart attack because he was so angry with her throughout the shooting of the film. Who knows, but that seems a little extreme in this day and age. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing this, I really enjoyed it 😀😀😀.
@JSB18825 жыл бұрын
Actually Gable was very patient with Monroe because he realized that she was an emotional wreck though he could see her talent. John Huston was responsible for egging Gable on to do his own stunts. He was playing Gable as the macho man so he could get some good close ups though a lot while the film was being held up waiting on Monroe.

According to Marilyn's wardrobe mistress and personal maid Lena Pepitone Marilyn was really upset about the screaming scene at the end of the film. She told Lena that she was not happy that Arthur wrote the scene with her essentially throwing a screaming fit to get the men to release the horses rather than intelligently explaining her feelings of why it was wrong. Marilyn felt that Arthur was writing an exaggerated version of her that wasn't flattering. This Lena says was the straw that really broke the marriage as Marilyn told her that that it was supposed to have been a gift to her , but if that's what he really thought of her then she didn't need him. Marilyn and Arthur were not on good terms from the start of the picture and it didn't surprise anyone when they separated during the filming.

Late comer to this vlog...It was really awesome to see the saloon! Looked like a very quiet and almost abandoned area, so you had a great atmosphere to film and narrate in. To know so much of a movie is filmed in one place and then it sit there years later like nothing ever happened is what makes finds like this so neat! I have to admit I think I would have rubbed some of the paint off of the building with paper or tried to find a sliver of the wood porch to have something from it. I bet people in traffic were wondering "Why is this guy filming a stoplight pole?" LOL! Thanks for this vlog, Jordan!

A huge Marilyn, Clark fan this was epic. In some weird way, watching it was a prelude to what was to come. The struggles of Monroe / Miller's relashionship, the gambling and arriving late to the sets. Clark doing his own stunts and his wife worried about it. A time Marilyn was getting worse addicted to prescription medications (certainly, not good meds if she was bipolar back then), the underline sadness of the actors, the riveting scenes of Monroe and Clark expressing their pain. I often wondered how much of that screaming Marilyn did running in the desert devastated about the horses being captured for food, was actually some of her pain from being tormented feeling alone and being abused by a Hollywood Elites. It harbored wonderful acting by the cast. I was saddened to hear Clark Gable was not a contender for an Oscar after his death. And yet, with the brilliance of Miller, Monroe (even though she doubted herself never given the accilades she deserved while she was alive,) it is a powerful, well acted riveting movie. Thank you for pointing out all the movie spots where the Misfits was filmed in and around Reno. I live two hours away from Reno and never thought about the film shot in Reno. That is why you are JTL and thank you for taking us to many historical sites.
