This one is solved now! Her name was Ruth Marie Terry. She was recently identified by DNA through a child she gave up for adoption. Her family loved her deeply and have been looking for her since she went missing. Her sister had been independently searching, but the sister died before these latest results came out. :( They don’t officially know what happened, but she had a sketchy new husband right before she vanished. He died in 2002, but the authorities are still investigating what happened just in case her killer is still alive. The adopted son had the chance to talk to her when he was 13, but declined. He now feels guilty for that - which, of course, he shouldn’t. He’s not the villain here. Very very sad. Apparently a nice lady who wasn’t even 40 yet who is remembered for her laughter and big smile.

The Jaws theory is insane. Same clothing found at the scene, she looks like the lady, fits the timeline and location. She probably sneaked on set to get away from her killer. She also was the only one looking behind her so she was most likely hiding from her killer but probably died days/weeks later.

I hate that mannequin. It's really creepy. One day, Shane's ghost will possess it and be like," Hey, I am the tall guy who used to work here and scare ghosts and demons."
@Moo-23104 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Maybe since there was such a crowd there she thought it'd be a good place to hide from the killer. Maybe she knew someone was out to kill her. As you said, she was the only person looking behind her, possibly keeping an eye out for her killer. Maybe when the scene was over and the crowd thinned out she was spotted by the killer without her knowing and they stalked her, or maybe she was caught and killed days after. I wonder who she was, and why she had to hide from a killer. She was obviously targeted, but why? Also the body suggests the murderer had killed before, and had possibly been caught and released. Possibly they were caught due to association with the victim, and that's why they took so many precautions to keep her unidentifiable. Maybe they also knew this woman and knew they'd be looked in to if she was identified because of their murderous past. I apologise for the wall of text, I love theorising about cases.

@thesimpledude1863 жыл бұрын
@@batrainn i m pretty sure its her and the fact that she was running from her murderer must have been a long run and when she reached the jaws shoot, the murderer was close by and she was trying to look around seeing if the murderer is near, but probably when she thought it was over, a few hours after the shoot , she must've got strangled till she was passed out, then the murderer cut off her hands and bash her face so that she dies and her identity is hard to confirm n the movie since he knows she was on camera. it is a high possibility that she was chased for a long time and the incidents that took place happened.

As others have pointed out, yeah, as of a few days ago the Lady of the Dunes has been identified as Ruth Marie Terry. It is currently suspected that the killer was her at the time and now deceased husband Guy Muldavin, who is believed to have killed several other people, including another wife of his and their daughter. Just goes to show how overdramatized these mystery cases can get sometimes. No prison escapee, no victim of mob crime, seemingly just an unfortunate woman who had her life stolen away by who she believed to be her lover.

Post Mortem: My dad was at the Cape with his parents when they were shooting Jaws. My grandma, as the story goes, was asked if she wanted to be an extra (actually, I'm pretty sure she wandered into a shot and got yelled at.) She didn't know how big the movie and Spielberg would become, so opted not to stick around. So yes, I totally believe the production was loose enough that this woman was a part of it and no one knew.
@Ellie-om3xk4 жыл бұрын
Postmortem: wouldn’t the fact that the victim had more expensive “New York” style dentistry work lend itself to the theory that she may be a hopeful actress working as an extra on Jaws? Just a thought Edit: Just to clarify my thought process, if she was an aspiring actress from a well off family, she would want to fix any blatant imperfections like crooked teeth to get into acting and she may take any acting job she can find, like an extra on a movie set, to find connections in the acting world

I dont think she would have that much dental work done to just be an extra. Even more so, there is no record of her being hired as an extra.
@johanvajse84104 жыл бұрын
plus anyone can be an extra in a scene like that I actually worked on a movie (Robert Duval's The Apostle), and we ran a radio ad to get extras to show up. None of them got paid anything. If you are a "featured extra" you got $75 a day. Days could last 12 hours.
@alicelortie96844 жыл бұрын
I think that it connects the story to the Mob guy. Maybe if, in those years, she managed to pay for such an expensive procedure, it might have something to do with the fact that she had some sort of connection with Whitey Bulger who would’ve paid for it. Or something like that, I’m no detective, but maybe she was a victim of his after being close with him and their relationship went south for some reason.

for post mortem: that poor girl who found the body was probably scarred for life. but also, the way ryan read that scenario kind of made it sound like she stumbled upon the corpse and immediately went 'yeah i'd say she's about 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches tall; 145 pounds; between 20 & 40 years old" and i was like 'dayum this girl sherlock holmes' before i realized i'm an idiot anyway i think it was aliens

@sylvanwilliams87214 жыл бұрын
For Postmortem: my bets are 100% on the Jaws extra. my great aunt was an extra on jaws just because she was sitting on the beach. someone ran up to her and was just like ‘we’ll give you 200 bucks, just keep putting sunscreen on’. that gives the impression that they kind of used the general beach crowd as extras. love you guys! 🧡
@MidnightWanderer004 жыл бұрын
If so, does she know the extra? Like, has she seen where that extra went?
@TyNels014 жыл бұрын
Trex 8210 Jaws has hundreds of extras, and if they’ve just used general people who are around the beach, the likeliness anyone knows another person there who they weren’t already there with is incredibly unlikely. Also even if someone was to remember where the person went from Jaws they won’t remember details from 46 years ago. I do think the Jaws theory is the most likely though
@charlottegreen95814 жыл бұрын
Yeah and it’s not a coincidence that she was shown in the same clothes that were with her at the beach when she died. It seems like this case would have been easy to solve because it’s quite simple and I don’t know how it’s taking pi’s and police to solve this one.
@timglover83284 жыл бұрын

Plus, it's awfully suspicious that the body hadn't been discovered by one of the rangers til several days after. A ranger stationed there would know where and where not to patrol. He would've known where to dispose of the body
@510-sohamray84 жыл бұрын
Well I think this could have happened. Maybe the woman was a criminal(or maybe an outsider?) who was found and caught by a ranger. But instead of arresting her he tried to do something to her( that would explain the clothes off) and murdered her. The murderer seems to know how to hide a crime and he may be familiar with crime work. So a ranger is a possible guess. Also it would explain the military entrinching tool and the place not being far away from a ranger station. That would explain that the woman trusted her and went with her murderer without any struggle. And no ranger was ever questioned or suspected. So he can easily get away.

So I have a theory: What if this woman was trafficked from another country? She could’ve had work done if she were brought over as a mail order bride, she could’ve been on the set of Jaws while trying to escape her husband, and this husband killed her so she wouldn’t talk. The husband likely could’ve been a doctor, explaining the work not being recognized. It would have also explained her body being so carefully maimed, as someone with medical experience would’ve known what to do. And if she was a mail order bride, almost no one would know her identity. Just something I thought of while watching the show.
@LocalTorchwoodIntern3 жыл бұрын
it would also explain the dental records, even if its "new york style" it could also be another country's dental work that looked similar or the same price as a dentist in new york, explaining why they couldnt find her records, cause they won't be in a US database.

I think theory 4 is the closest, but I think it’s a combination of that and the theory with the extra. Picture you and your accomplice just did a jail break, you’re in cape cod and you’re planning your next move. You see a woman who looks quite a bit like you. Maybe you talk her up a bit and find out she’s from out of town, working on a movie. This would also explain the odd and easily found placement of the body, maybe they wanted it found. If you’re looking for a missing criminal and a body looking just like her turns up, maybe the police jump to conclusions, is something they could have thought about. In the end what I’m proposing is really unlikely to be true, it is just that the placement of the body and the weird combination of a professional job and the brutality of the killing make it seem as if the body was left there intentionally to be discovered but not identifiable. Anyways just a thought

My grandparents found a body back in the 60's. They were taking a stroll one evening and came upon their murdered neighbour's body. My grandma says that if it was to happen again, she wouldn't call the cops. She says that it was a pretty hard time because of all the police reports and magazines who kept harasing them for interview (plus they were newly wed so yeah, it kinda ruined the honeymoon 😅). I personally understand why someone would not report a body. I imagine it might be pretty hard and nerve wracking, because no only do you have to deal the trauma around the discovery, but with all the questionning as well. So for me, the hypothesis that the footprints are from another witness seem pretty plausible. Sending love and good vibes from Canada ❤

Have they confirmed that this lady is American? Cause maybe she’s from a different country and that’s why they don’t know her identity- it’d be interesting for them to do a histological profile on her DNA and see if they can figure out where she’s from

The question I'm left with is, if it was NY style dentistry, why didn't they send the info to NY dentists instead of Mass. dentists? A lot of actors in NY, so she may have come from there to be an extra in Jaws.

NY style may not mean "from new york", it could just mean "city" or "fancy".

As someone born and raised on the Cape I can say that when Jaws was filmed in the '70s it was very easy for people to go on set and be in the movie. I have older cousins and other relatives who were in the movie as extras because they were in the area when it was being filmed.

Word from a Jaws nut: A lot of the crowd scenes filmed for Jaws were done without paid extras. In that montage they literally just filmed a ferry landing at Oak Bluffs so her looking at the camera is a very normal reaction for someone seemingly boarding the ferry to return to the mainland. That ferry very well could've been a Oak Bluffs to Provincetown route, meaning she could've easily gotten on that ferry when they filmed her, then was murdered that night on the mainland. #postmortem

POSTMORTEM: footprints still being fresh might mean that the killer was coming back to visit her body
@miafraher73674 жыл бұрын
Debbie Norman personally i don’t think the body was there for 3 weeks, i think it was dumped closer to the time it was found. It just seems unlikely to me that no one found the body before or just didn’t call it in because in a small enough community people would talk and rumours of a body on the beach would spread like ghost stories
@Georgiana-q4u4 жыл бұрын
The dog could have scared off the killer who dumped her there. Ooooo
@dontaskanimation56464 жыл бұрын
Or it could have been much more recent. In tests, most scientists put a cage or barrier around bodies to see how long it takes for them to decay, which means scavengers are not usually taken into account. Turkey vultures were a rare sight in cape code during the seventies, but that doesn’t mean they weren’t there. Perhaps the Body was left there one or two days ago, or even a couple of hours, and vultures ate some of the body, making it seem much older than it really was. Sometimes, vultures leave feathers at carcasses, but authorities might have though they were just seagulls feathers. But I might just be crazy, idk.

post mortem: I can barely imagine the emotional burden that comes with finding a body, let alone finding a stark naked decomposing body that has been mutilated beyond recognition, and having to deal with that at the age of twelve. like imagine being twelve and coming home from a nice day at the beach and just finding that, like jesus christ
