Dr Sam had several ounces of sand in his pockets when he was unclothed at Bay View hospital. His temperature was so low that 2 thermometers couldn't get a reading. His skin was completely clammy and clothing was soaked. He was shaking so badly that x-rays could not be taken without changing the aperture of the machine. He was incontinent with a swollen face and several loose teeth amongst his other injuries. Some of his reflexes were missing, caused by nerve damage from the blow to the back of the neck. Shame on Dr Samuel Gerber (Cuyahoga County coroner) and Louis Benson Seltzer (Cleveland Press editor) for railroading this man and essentially his family.

@@reptile_loki The story is rather fanciful. He was knocked out _twice_ in one attack? When did the burglar have time to hide the jewelry in the bushes, and why? Why would a burglar take time to murder a woman but not the male, who is the greater threat? The victim was pregnant and Sam was having an affair. The murder weapon was never found. But the outline of a scalpel was left on the bed. No forced entry. Sam took a nap after the incident, then called the mayor instead of the police.

The place Shane is talking about with the decaying bodies is “The Body Farm”, located in Tennessee. My mom is a prosecutor and got to visit. It’s very difficult to get that chance and only law and medical people are typically allowed. It’s really cool and fascinating I love listening to what all she saw there. But it smells so bad near some of the bodies that she had to throw away a pair of shoes and even after showering multiple times and even swimming, her hair still smelled terrible. Just thought y’all would be interested :)

But why would his wrestling name be "the killer" if he hadnt killed anyone. I think he killed his wife.
@michaelpalmieri73353 жыл бұрын
@@GeekRaj Usually, wrestlers don't choose their nicknames. Their managers do that. Maybe Sheppard's manager gave him the "Killer" nickname because he had been accused of murder. But, it doesn't necessarily mean that he actually was a killer. That wrestler known as "The Rock" isn't actually a rock, or a stone, or anything of the sort. It's just a nickname. So, by the same token, the fact that Sam Sheppard's wrestling nickname was "Killer" doesn't prove that he murdered his wife, especially since a lot of the evidence contradicts this idea.

"Forensic Science is crazy to me" I'm currently a Forensics science major in college and I can agree it's crazy. Some of the methods and tests I learn blow my mind. One (newer and expensive) method of collecting fingerprints is by melting solid gold until it turns into a gas which then sticks to very fine fingerprints. Zinc is then melted to a gas and that chemically bonds to the gold so that it becomes visible to the eye. It's like superglue fumigation on steroids. I love this major

But in the eyes of the community though... really, when an innocent person is convicted, their reputation is tarnished even if they are later set free.
@charliebone83353 жыл бұрын
Fewer things are harsher than the court of public opinion. Also, it’s not just in the USA, the idea of “innocent until proven guilty” is a hallmark of justice systems. That is what a trial is for. It gives the prosecution the chance to prove that the defendant is guilty beyond any reasonable doubt. Still, while the burden of evidence lies with the prosecution, it is sometimes up to the defense to look for new theories because if the authorities are so certain the defendant did it, they neglect evidence that could prove otherwise.

Also, the fact that she was pregnant was interesting. She could have been having an affair with/been assaulted by the handyman, resulting in a pregnancy. The handyman could have found out and, not wanting his actions to be revealed, killed her to get rid of both her and her unborn child.
@venesajuskaite10 ай бұрын
I'm not trying to defend him, but the media was on everyone's tails, and he could have easily found out little details like that from the media. My theory is that maybe Sam hired the handyman as a hitman in exchange for the cocktail rings since he could have possibly known that the handyman had killed before since they were close. And like @elementsfannfics3859 states, it could have easily been a murder to cover up an affair.

@sandstormxx4 жыл бұрын
from wikipedia: 'With regard to tying the blood to Eberling, the DNA analysis that was allowed to be admitted to the trial was inconclusive. A plaintiff DNA expert was 90% confident that one of the blood spots belonged to Richard Eberling but, according to the rules of the court, this was not admissible. The defense argued that the blood evidence had been tainted in the years since it was collected, and that an important blood spot on the closet door in Marilyn Sheppard's room potentially included 83% of the adult white population. The defense also pointed out that the results in 1955 from the older blood typing technique, that the blood collected from the closet door was Type O, while Eberling's blood type was Type A.[58]' so it looks like there was some work done on it, but its not conclusive.
