The head canon I've made to deal with this plot hole since it came up was to assume that each Supreme Kai we see for each other universe, is that universe's equivalent to Dai Kaiōshin, who is currently part of Majinn Buu in Universe 7. Shin, being the highest ranked Kai left, is effectively filling the role for U7. But yeah, I'm betting Toriyama just forgot that there were five of them. I'm hoping we get an explanation in the Moro arc at some point anyway, since there is talk about pulling Dai Kaiōshin out of Buu somehow, the character is at least being acknowledged and that makes the plot hole all the more noticeable.

There’s theories on both, you can argue that when DaiKaio was absorbed he didn’t die yet OR that the life link simply transfers to the next highest Supreme Kai. But I prefer the idea that he is linked to them all and as long as there as at least one then the GoD is safe.

I have a theory that all the supreme kais we see in the other universes are actually the grand supreme kais. The north, south, east and west, supreme kais just aren't shown. Supreme Kai shin is technically still the east supreme kai, but also the grand supreme kai now, since the original was absorbed.

My head cannon is that our current Supreme Kai was a Kai like King Kai and the Grand Supreme Kai was the Supreme Kai. After the old Supreme Kai was absorbed, our current Supreme Kai took it over.

it's more like they needed 1 representative for each universe, even for Universe 7, Kibito didn't show up during Tournament of Power even though the Elder Kaioshin was there, plus U7 had a more necessity for more Kaioshin, due to having a more wicked/corrupt/evil being, which is why U7 is one of lowest ranking universe, ranking 11tth among 12 universe, while other higher rank universe probably don't need 4 Kaioshin like U7 did

There's a theory that since those Kais were inside Buu for over a million years Buu actually absorbed them completely; they are forever a part of Majin Buu. I like to think of it like namekian fusion. Nail didn't technically die but he essentially lost himself and who he was when he fused with Piccolo. Just a theory. I'd think of it as a fusion that you can't escape from.

Just my theory tell me if you disagree 1. I thought all of the supreme kais from different universes that show up in the T.O.P was the Grand Supreme Kai and all of the other Supreme Kais just stay in their universe some one has to look after. 2. I don't like the idea that killing one weak Supreme Kai alsoll kills a a God of Destruction but killing 5 makes more harder but not impossible. 3. The reason a New Supreme Kai has not been born yet is probably because their King Kai counterpart Is still alive. Perhaps that part of the universe needs to truly not have no one watching over it for the process to begin. It not like the King Kais have done nothing to keep their universe safe they get heroes to fight villains who are threat.

Universe seven having 5 supreme Kais at once was a massive outlier. Beyond that the Kai are based off Hindu mythology, especially their reincarnation. As the universe seven supreme Kais died fighting buu their souls could not reincarnate as they had unfulfilled desires. Also if they had become lax or lazy in their roles due to so many of them existing at once their laziness could have given them bad karma lowering their reincarnations potential and how quickly they do reincarnate. It also explains their ability to unleash someone’s potential, it isn’t the potential of your body but the potential of your soul. They bridge the gap between your weak flesh and your eternal soul allowing you to access all the boons your passed life earned and then further develop them. This make even more sense with piccolo, as a fusion he has at least three souls. Kami’s soul was so pure he was born into the dragon type and nail was always a righteous person. I believe the statement “all you had plus a bit extra” related to this. He already had the potential from kami and nail, but he was also gifted his own potential from purifying his demonic soul. Idk if it’s because he died or because of the dragon ball magic but I’m sure he got at least 3 soul boosts. Maybe more if nail ever fused before fusion was outlawed.

My headcannon: there are 5 supreme kais in each universe, 4 that create planets and life in each section (because having one kai do it for every section sounds like way too much for one kai), one to keep them in check, and one of them becomes life linked to the g.o.d., I'm sure if all the kais of universe 7 were still around and shin is still life linked to beerus (if he's the only one), he would still be the only one to go the universe 6 tournament, the zeno expo, and the tournament of power.

I think it works like this at the bottom we have the cardinal Kai's then above them is the grand kai then 4 supreme kai for each quadrant then the grand kai then the supreme kai apprentice then finally THE supreme kai so it works like there's supreme kai for both south east and west quadrants but at the top of the hierarchy is THE supreme kai the difinite article not just a supreme kai but the number 1 supreme kai that's what shin and elder kai are

The supreme Kai shin became a supreme Kai after a long time and there are still 5 kais below him the north south east and west kais as well as the grand kai. it is possible that the supreme Kai at the time of buu didn’t die and soon shin became the supreme Kai. All the universes have the same thing. The way I see it (no evidence just opinion) is that each universe has their own system of doing things, they can have as many Supreme Kais as they like but in doing so they have the responsibility to ensure they are worthy and can do the job etc. Some may prefer to rule creation alone, some my chose a single apprentice as a backup (Gowasu and Zamasu), and some may chose to split their universes responsibilities to many like U7 does with the 4 Kais and have the grand supreme Kai lead them. Maybe Universe 7 is the only one with that many Supreme Kais because Beerus is a lazy ass who’s always asleep so they had to fend for themselves coz he was no help 😅

Where are all the grand supreme kais of the other universes? The answer is: They no longer exist, and here's my reason... A long running multimedia franchise such as Dragon Ball (DB) is bound to develope plot holes and inconsistency over time, DB is no exception. DB has been around for over "30 years." That means, lots of ideas are changed, thinking, and feelings on things change, things retconned, things left out, and things just simply "forgotten." Meanwhile us fans attempt to fill in these holes with theories, attempting to make sense out of something that has "no sense" at all. Now, at the beginning of DB, we learned about King Kai, at that point we "assumed" that he's the chief overseeing deity of the universe, hence bearing the title "king." Then later on in the series, we learned that King Kai has contemporaries, with him being no long sole kai but just one of four cardinal sub-deities, with him being overseer of the north quadrant of the universe and there being the other kais south, east, and west with their own quadrant they oversee. Then we was introduced to the Grand Kai, who was in charge of managing the other sub-deity kais. For that moment we reasoned that Grand Kai was the chief of the universe, but then a little later, yet we learned of "another" higher deity, the Supreme Kai, aliased Shin. We have good reasons to accept that Shin is the ultimate overseer of the universe, which he IS currently, BUT this wasn't the case at a different point in time. We soon learned that long ago the universe had "more" supreme kais, much like the lower kais, the supreme kais are ordered by a cardinal quadrant of the universe, bearing the supreme kais of the north, south, west, and Shin, being orignally the Supreme Kai of the east. And we have "yet another" higher deity that manages them, the Grand Supreme Kai. How Shin became the chief deity of the universe, Universe 7 (U7) by the way, is that he was the sole survivor of the Majin Buu attack that either had killed or absorbed the other high ranking deities, including the higher deity, Grand Supreme Kai. After all their deaths, Shin took on the role or "office" of Grand Supreme Kai but he NEVER had appropriating the "title" of Grand Supreme Kai. Shin was ALWAYS addressed as Supreme Kai, the sole Supreme Kai. Thus, Shin is NOT Grand Supreme Kai of U7, nor even Elder Supreme Kai, who was "a" supreme kai 15 generations ago ever said to have held that title. So that begs an answer to the question, Where are all the grand supreme kais of the other universes? The answer was that they do not exist, and it doesn't have anything to do with a particular event that happened in U7, but WHY??? Because, the writer, Akira Toriyama (AT), creator of the series, simply "forgot" them. As mentioned in the fore front, a long running multimedia franchise such as DB is bound to develope plot holes and inconsistency over time, AT is known to forget things, ALOT of things, just ask Lunch! So does that mean that all the other supreme kais of the other universes aren't actually grand supreme kais? Exactly so, even though they do hold the "office" of Grand Supreme Kai, they do not assume the "title" Grand Supreme Kai, they never was refered to as such, they all are what they are, supreme kais, and "sole" at that matter of each of their own respective universes.

Beerus is the one that sealed the Elder Kai in the Z-Swords, so he was tied to both. Elder Kai never actually died so Beerus was not in any real danger and the role of Supreme Kai was passed on to the next Kaioshin.

That whole multiple Supreme Kai thing was total bullshit and unnecessary, when we first meet Shin at the tournament he was not just the "East Supreme Kai" he was THE Supreme Kai, and that should be respected afterwards in the saga. The Supreme Kai was supossed to be the ultimate God, its ridiculous that there are more than one, and if all that shit was actually retconned then thanks God (literally).

inaccurate from the very first sentence the first kai we meet is king kai and supreme kai was met PRIOR to db super. Infact several kai's were. Including the bad ass hippy that was the grand kai. (Pican vs Goku anyone?)
