The Missouri River and the Badlands. America Journal Pt3

There are some places that capture the imagination that speak more to the heart than the head - for me one of these very special places is the Missouri River. This river and its tributaries formed a major part of the imaginative and historical component of the first weeks of this trip. The Badlands are a place unto themselves. You can look at places and say "this reminds me of.." not so with the Badlands - it truly is like nothing else.

You pretty much sum up the whole experience. The camera cannot capture it - indeed I think to really get it you have to be in the place and let it impose itself on your consciousness.

It can require quite a bit of imagination sometimes, but you do get a sense of "how did they do it?"

desolation; is that were they find the dinosaurs?

They have found dinosaurs all over the Dakotas, Montana etc. It looks that way but it is not so much desolation as becoming.
