The Mixing Board is one of those pieces of studio equipment that surround much of the "mystique" of Audio Engineering. So many knobs, dials and faders. To the novice, it almost looks the controls on a Spaceship.
But, how does a Mixing Board work? Designed to be a "router" of Sound, when incorporated into modern D.A.W.s (Digital Audio Workstations) this router can allow an Audio Engineer to benefit from the 'Analog' characteristics of the mixing board and the efficiencies of Digital Music Production.
The first video in the 'Mixing Board' series addresses the concept of 'The Channel Strip'. Every Mixing Board is made up of a series of, mostly, identical Channel Strips. If you know what one does, you know what they all do.
This video was produced for the Lil' Drummaboy Recordings (LDB10.COM) in-studio 'Audio Recording School'. The Most Affordable and Effective Audio Recording School in the World!

It was an absolute pleasure making this video. I love this craft of OURs. By the way, I created a comprehensive Audio Engineering training program that is helping music creators (like you) earn more revenue, expand their careers in the music industry, and increase their demand. It's called 'The Audio Engineering Blueprint'. Here's the link to learn more: theblueprint.samoricoles.com/

¡you deserve nothing less samori, thanks! i started recording 'sounddiary' at the age of 14 (1978)... totally autodidact, just by sounds and feelings of the day, cookin' inspired inventing ... i never had any lesson or what so ever... untill today , playing 8 to 18 hrs a day with sound... and here you are, the first person that manages to make me understand what i am actually doing. i mixed by ear only untill now and will include your wisdom in all my next choices. respect and keep on sharing your talents, light shines within you. blessings

I don't know what it is about this guy. I'm a World Class Hater -and a Hard Learner. So I am amazed at how easily I am able to listen to his videos from start to finish and retain the information afterwards. Strange.

Coles do you have those vids you where going to promise to upload on "Stereo Channel Strips", learning "Aux Sends", and "Busing" by any chance? This video is by far the best explained introduction to Mixing Board I have ever seen. I also watched your video on Sound Fundamentals and it is very informing, precise, and to the point. I am in process of purchasing a Yamaha mc124cx which is similar to the 166c but with 12 channels instead of 16. It also has the HPF switch, built in Special Effects, etc. If you have a website where you have objective, instructional videos please let me know. Be more than happy to pay for it or subscribe. Please keep up the good work :)))

Question can you still some how make stereo music with a mono channel strip how would be the work flow? do drum bass vocals in mono piece by piece then you just have to duplicate your mono synth say for stereo and pan on far left and one far right is that right? Or re record the synth 2 times and effect them differently if you like for a stereo or paraelle effect!!! thanks trying to get my head around is it okay to buy one channel strip hardware or need 2 cheaper ones to make stereo?

MIIKE 5 It sounds like you are trying to figure out how the best way to create a stereo image from a mono source. So, if you just duplicate a source and pan it, it will technically still be mono. However, if you slightly delay one of the sides (after you’ve planned it) by around 30ms, you will get more of a stereo image. You could also, as you stated, re-record the synth part and pan that track. That would also give you a stereo image. Hope this helps!

@@iamsamori So does this give you 100% stereo image?

whats the most common way to create mono to stereo source I guess i am trying to figure out ?
@iamsamori
@iamsamori 4 жыл бұрын
MIIKE 5 As with most things Audio Engineering related, it comes down to personal preference. The two ways that I mentioned (duplicate, pan and delay one side) and (re-record the source and pan) are both very common. Give them a try and see which one you prefer.
