A lot of it has to do with mic type, placement, and recording technique. Then yeah eq and dynamic eq like de-essing and de-popping is absolutely necessary. Then you just want to normalize and somewhat maximize all the audio together to reduce dynamic range and keep everything at the samish volume, and keep it loud. Someone can always turn it down towards 0db, but you cannot always turn it up to sufficiently compensate for quiet audio. You might have it all the way up but it still is not as loud as maximized audio turned all the way up on your device

I agree with you. I believe that MLB at least tacitly encouraged it. Look at the big McGwire-Sosa HR race, which took place after a players lockout, after which MLB desperately needed to bring the fans back. Neither player had ever hit HRs at such a rate, and Sosa certainly hadn't, being like Bonds, who was a good hitter with some power but nothing like that year. There had always been rumors of PED use by the "Bash Brothers" that were later confirmed and Sosa had suddenly bulked up to be able to hit homers at a record pace. MLB looked the other way and actively promoted the race to break Maris's record, just like they would when Bonds grew three hat sizes and ended up breaking Aaron's lifetime record. You can't tell me the owners, supported by the commissioner, weren't complicit in all of it.

In the interest of science, I conducted an experiment during this video. The hypothesis is that the droll, droning monotone, and the drooping inflection at the end of literally every sentence is enough of an overall low that it could actually neutralize the usual effects of cocaine. The control was to rip one moderately sized line when the bit about Tim Raines began. No additional line until at least 15 minutes in. The effects were documented thoroughly. Conclusions are that the voice didn't lessen the potency or duration, in fact no second line was used. However, the voice did become noticeably more droll and it was easy to lose focus on it. I can safely say that I missed most of the second half of the video, as the voice is a low and clashed with my upper tinged brain. Now to publish my findings.
