Saying that Egypt doesn't produce 'Elite' players is an insult to a nation that won the AFCON seven times. They always had excellent players but the difference between many of them and Salah is that Salah wanted to play in Europe and put all of his focus to that goal. He learned a different language, had an extreme work ethic, excellent discipline, stayed out of trouble...there were many Egyptian players with plenty of potential (Like Mido, Amr Zaki, Hossam Ghali among many others) but they all lacked the one thing that seperated them from greatness. Discipline.

I went to training back then when I was a kid and the coaches refused to let me do anything because they were waiting for a bribe, they'd just play on their phone and once the tests are done they'd pick kids randomly or the kids they are bribed to take. Egypt is so unbelievably corrupt that you almost can't get anything done without a bribe, even in schools you have to pay teachers for outside of school tutoring or you will fail even if you get a good enough grade, you can't even get a driver license without a bribe. salah was the exception his talent allowed him to play instead of just some random rich kid.
