That's every remodel ever. Codes were different then too, so what passed before might not now. My spare room from the 1930s had 1" cardboard for insulation. I'm sure this house they are working on has tons of two wire systems where now we have 3 wire. It's definitely interesting how things change in a short time (20years). I'd say they got more strict in what would pass now.

It's strange to me in the UK that your houses seem to be all timber with weather proof sidings on the outside and some sh*t on the inside, whilst we would use proper insulation and then plaster board and then plaster over it for a smooth finish you can paint or use wall paper. Well, horses for courses as they say!

Another entertaining and informative video. I have to make three observations: First, as an old "professional homeowner" who bought our first house in 1978 for $ 19,200, I've run into EVERYTHING you guys have on your remodel. You have my sincerest sympathies! Second, your videos just keep getting better.---content, production, everything. Third, REBECCA is a SAINT! I married a "Becca" in 1976, and through many moves and remodels, and a final new build, I've come to realize that the true test of a marriage is how well you (as a couple) survive multiple kitchen remodels. Keep that in mind as you grow together. That might sound kinda trivial--but I assure you....it's not!

Neither have we, but that how it was installed before we moved it and that’s how the window we are matching it to is installed. Both windows are installed with only 1 stud above the header. We weren’t sure if this was an old construction method or what, but we figured if it’s lasted 40 years it’s probably good to replicate it since it was being moved in between an identical layout on the studs. Call us crazy🤷🏼

@@Building_Jays_Way Honestly a space that wide doesn't really need a header. The only header in my house is above a 9 foot wide cutout for an addition, all the windows are 3 feet wide or less, its been that way since 1952 and it hasn't fell over yet 🤷‍♂️ I've cut out 10 feet of supporting wall before to make changes and it didn't sag at all 😳

Whats next now? Crazy how the past 3 episodes you moved the sink, a door, and a window!

Next big ticket items are plumbing and electrical. Plumbing is mostly done since we moved the sink, but we want to clean it up a little. After that it’s drywall, flooring and moving those cabinets.

As it is not my house i´m not going to mention that you put the flex-tape on the out side of the siding... 🤔
@Building_Jays_Way

I mean, I could have cut the siding back and put it on that blackboard stuff, but what does it matter? The windows will be trimmed out over the siding eventually and you won’t see it. Won’t it act the same way?
