I love this video, shared it with friends, and watched it the second tome slowly with a notebook. Mode 3 was a revelation. There are a lot of hidden chords in harmonic major (I major 7#5 for example)

this is one of the best descriptions of the modes I've come across, especially the notion that most of them have the same 1,3,5,7 and then having 2,4,6 described as the "tension" notes that are all slightly different was a really eye opening Ahha moment for me (or, I totally mis-understood everything, but hoping that's not the case). on the other hand I'll never be able to learn this level of theory because the names themselves don't make any sense to me, melodic vs harmonic vs double harmonic. to me those words only have meaning in the sense of "rhythm, harmony, melody", re-using those same words to describe totally different concepts just doesn't work for me. (and then there's all the greek names, that I'll never be able to memorize at my age)

what are tensions? why are they important and how do you use them ?

They are the 2 4 and 6 of a chord. They are the most colorful parts of a tonality

They are the upper structure triad as well: 2/4/6 and 9/11/13. Deriving the upper(inner) structure triads for all modes from all 4 parent scales took me 3 days of brain fry. Learning them all - longer.
