When you bring the newborn baby home the two-year old toddler suddenly seems SO BIG! ❤ I love that you’re able to give Khanisia so much reassurance and love. She’s not the baby of the family now but she will always be cherished.

Seeing Khanyisa next to Phabeni is incredibly heartwarming. On one side, you'll see how much she has grown. She was once little Phabeni, unsure of where she was and her new family and life. Now, little Phabeni is the baby and its good to see that he too, one day, will be actively involved and growing up with the HERD. It is such a wonderful cycle. It's amazing to see them grow and gradually become introduced and then gradually become more comfortable with the HERD. Khanyisa is to Phabeni as how Timi and Kumbura were to Khanyisa. I hope they get along and I'm sure little conversations will happen. Khanyisa telling Phabeni "I was once you... you are safe now" 🙏❤️

Why would Khanysia do that; roll her trunk away from Phabeni. I don’t understand that behaviour. It looks to me like she was saying: I don’t want you to touch me. After all she knows that was her spot and wouldn’t want to share her friends, carers, adine, etc., with an outsider. She’ll get over it. I am sure!

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that sometimes the fence has electric wires (which are turned off in this instance)? She also puts it into her mouth after curling it up, so maybe using taste as part of learning who the new one is?

@calpoker21
@calpoker21 Жыл бұрын
its nice of you to try and make that a sweet gesture but unfortunately that's a little too much anthropomorphizing and not in line with what we know about elephant behavior. curling up the trunk like that is an aggressive act that is an early stage in charging sequencing which is why you can immediately hear adine tell her to calm down.

I've always wondered, when Adine says "steady boy, steady girl", what elephant behavior prompts her to say this. She says it often, leading me to think that these guys aren't as "tame" as we'd like to believe. They are acclimated to people they know, however, their roots are wild.

That was a very sweet moment - a little trunk kiss perhaps? It seems only 5 minutes ago that Meisiekind was standing where Phabeni stands now watching the Herd head out for the day. And Khanyisa now looks so big in comparison to FabPhab 😊 I do hope she will love her baby brother and that jealousy will not be a problem. We will just have to wait and see. Khanyisa really does not need to feel envious. To those of us who witnessed her arrival at HERD, she will always remain Khanyisa Braveheart. She had us very worried at times but she also made us laugh with her antics, especially during the dark days of Covid lockdown. I suspect Phabeni is going to make us laugh too. Each and every Elephant in this family is dearly loved because they are all special and unique and because there is more than plenty of Love to go around - for Lammie Spotty and Nandi, Adine's dog, too. No one is excluded! Love and Thanks to the Amazing HERD human family too. You are all Truly Very Special People 🥰❤️🐘💙🤗🙏

It's so interesting how most of the adult ellies are fixed on Phabeni when they walk by-except for toddler Khanyisa who has been seeing him during milk bottles. Khanyisa is a tough cookie, and quite territorial, so I hope that resolves. Phabeni is too little to be pushed around (and the allomothers won't have any of that!) I hope Khanyisa eventually embraces and plays with Phabeni-especially since Timisa is tired of playing so much. Can't wait
@Renee29forever
@Renee29forever Жыл бұрын
I couldn't agree more! Khanyisa is very spoiled and its time she grows out of it. Some of her behavior is dreadful! (digging her tusks into Tokwe as she lays down) (doing the same to Timi over and over again) Its no wonder why Timi whacked her...I dont blame Timi for putting a end to it. Adine keeps bringing up the "head butts by Phabeni" does she fully understand that he is a bull? I think the world of Adine..but never agreed with her training Khanyisa to come when she whistles like a dog... I see the problem as Khanyisa and not Phabeni. Your so right in thinking the allomothers and older cows will not tolerate it! I hold your hopes that Khanyisa comes around. Thank you for calling a spade....a spade! Sometimes the truth is hard to swallow. Be well my friend!! Thank you for your comment!

@@Renee29forever Thanks Renee! I just ruminate openly, I am still learning. Ha. What's great is how much work they put into describing the ellies and their interpersonal relationships. No channel does that. You realize how intelligent and emotional ellies are. No place is perfect, but Adine works incredibly hard to share this experience with ppl. Why do think they haven't introduced Phabeni to his allomother yet? After reading about Mopane and Fenya, you see how delicate baby ellies are. So stressful.

I was watching some of the old Khanyisa videos yesterday, when she was just as tiny as little Phabeni only three years ago, walking and foraging with the herd, stumbling in the sand and being picked up by her allomothers and aunties. We can't know what elephants think, but we know how utterly amazing it is for an animal to behave kindly to another of its species that isn't part of its own family. For all of their former history, each baby in their midst is most likely genetically related to them and a valuable addition to the group in terms of protecting each other from predators, learning where seasonal food and water sources are, and passing on their genes. A new baby, even if it isn't your own, may someday help you, so it is in each of their best interests to care for the babies. I wonder how Khanyisa will react to Phabeni joining the group - it will be a valuable opportunity to learn even more about the social behavior of these lovely animals. Adine and the caretakers are doing a fabulous job in slowly introducing Phabeni to the other elephants and making sure he doesn't get frightened in these early encounters. Thank you to all who help elephants, whether they are captive or free. 💚💚💚

Wonderful storys to tell each other, starting with one little touch and e ding with Khanyisa playing babysitter for the baby, now Khanyisa looks a giant next to Phabeni. She has such a confident and trust. Phabeni is welcome in the Herd. I am sure.

I can't get over the fact that Khanysia is taller than the guys ...seems unbelievable...like she was tiny just yesterday. She'll always be the baby to me!! ❤ Phabeni and miss sunshine are going to be so cute.

I remember when Fishan first touched Khanyisa between the fence. That look of surprise on his face ! ❤❤❤

Kany is not very interested, comparing to Jabu. I think she is jealous or scared. How she rolled up her trunk when she touched the baby's little trunk. It's the first time she sees a babay and Jabu is used to them.

Yes, exactly 👏 she is not used to such a tiny elephant and has slowly been getting used to this new strange sight! 😀

I still remember Khanyisa when she was just as small as Phabeni! Hoping they'll be great friends! Kudos to the entire Sanctuary!

I think it's going to take Khanyisa a little bit of time to get used to Phabeni, even some jealousy/confusion at first. She rolled the trunk almost as a protection 'that's enough for now thankyou' and also she did a little 'kick' at Phabeni when her back was turned. (Just my thoughts after watching this channel, since the beginning of Khanyisa's arrival at the orphanage.) I always save the videos of this channel until just before I go to bed, so it's the last thing in my mind. Brings me me Peace in my mind and Love in my heart. 🥰

I did wonder if the backkick was aimed at the bucket, as if to say "F... your sweet potatoes"

Khanyisa has gotten so casual about the bottles. Doesn't even have to wrap the trunk all the time but just props it. Funny

Amazing! To see how big Khanyisa is compared to Phabeni. She looks so big because I'm used to seeing her so small. When she's with the other elephant she's still a baby. Perspective, it's everything. ‼️‼️😘
