@@sinner2499 It implies that he thinks he's incapable of taking Hikaru on in his current state, and that he'd have to wait until Hikaru is no longer playing before he can stand a chance of winning. While he spoke so confidently, he was describing a situation in which he is currently too weak to outcompete Hikaru - right before their tournament. That's why it seems naive. It was almost prophetic, and the tournament result spoke for itself.

@Richard0503
@Richard0503 2 ай бұрын
@@zepeterinma IMHO, the first poster wasn’t literally saying Tyson can’t walk now; they were drawing a comparison. It would be like bragging about beating Tyson in a fight only when he’s so far past his prime that he physically can’t compete anymore, like when he can’t walk. The point is that it’s not impressive to make claims about beating a legendary figure when they’re no longer at their best. This fits perfectly with Hans Niemann’s comments about Hikaru-he’s suggesting that bragging about beating Hikaru when he’s close to retirement doesn’t hold much weight, just like beating an out-of-prime Tyson wouldn’t. I will be super interested to see how Tyson gets on - he's such a legend and, like you said, he has done an awesome job of getting into shape. Do you think he will beat Jake?
@zepeterinma
@zepeterinma 2 ай бұрын
@@Richard0503 I think theres about a 70% chance he will beat Jake. Boxing is a strange sport and upsets can happen so we cant discount anything. I do think that his experience and current condition should be enough to give him an edge over Jakes size advantage. I do see your point though and sort of feel the same way with Hans and Hikaru, like I beat a national master in USCF rated chess but I cant really brag that I beat a national master because hes now in his 70s and is no longer at a master rating, only between 2000-2100. down from his 2350 peak. Another good parallel is when Kasparov came back to play a tournament and got last place I think 2 years ago. Just because hes the second best chess player of all time, people cant really be that proud that they beat him in his current state. I do wonder if he could get into semi-competitive state again with enough effort. I know Anand for example is retired but can still have absolutely monstrous performances even these days. Maybe the fall off depends on the person.

Once a cheater always a cheater, the fact that a fraudster is allowed to play with the players who follow the rules is a big mistake. If there's no punishment for cheating, the risk/reward shifts and it encourages more people to try and do the same. Magnus was right not to play against him, the rest of the players should do the same.

The punishment is getting put in a position where you have to play your betters in tournaments where they make it well nigh on impossible for you to cheat. Now he will have to live with that for the rest of his life.

@@someoneelse293 That reasoning would apply to other cheaters as well. So no punishment for cheaters, because the might use it for bragging and we might miss out on a genius. Hikaru definitely has a massive ego. All of the best players of anything develop an ego. The difference I see is that Hans has his ego born from narcissism. He probably will be great, as there is a fine line between genius and insanity. But even if he broke every record, destroys Magnus every time they play, he will still not be fully respected as a person, because of how he treats and talks to others. He is 21 with a bigger ego than players that have dominated for years. He cant get through a conversation without saying "the truth/reality is" or insulting someone while bragging how great he is. Pre-match, he says he is in great form, eating players for lunch, post Hikaru, he is lacking experience, practice and form.

Ignoring belittling and disrespect are not the tools of a humble person I don’t like him either but they are better ways to deal with a rude brat or a bitter old man (kramnik ) truly sad I got a bit back into chess after I dropped it in my teen years but the dismissive way critic (even if it is in part nonsensical) is handled is sad you take everything seriously even the dumb brat u don’t like and honestly hyping up a traitor who made part of his sport more or less irrelevant is still hard for me to believe I don’t care about his skill there were better players and there will be better ones still I mean he ,they made chess more popular again but that to the price of a legacy the current „best“ player seems to hold no respect towards but it’s working so far I guess still I hope classical gets a bit more recognition after the deathblow dealt to it but honestly not holding much hope still age humbles most in a sport where your mind is the most important we will see how those people will develop
