Personally i think Lahey stoped being the hero of the story around season 4. There he was no longer trailer park supervisor and the boys were no longer harming anyone in the park (the people actually seem to really like Ricky and the quality of life seems to have improved since he became supervisor). Ricky even gave Lahey the park car so him and Randy wouldn’t be out in the cold. He has literally no reason to go after the boys but he does anyway committing several serious crimes while doing so.

Lahey tried getting back with Barb again so they could get their daughter Treena back again too. He mentions Treena to barb in one of the last episodes of season 4. But with ricky, Julien and bubbles running things, barb going behind his back to get with Ricky, lahey forever losing his daughter treena it seems, the boys being responsible for him losing his police officer job which could have partially negatively affected his marriage with Barb threw him over the edge completely. Hence how crazy he became in season 4 finale, season 5 up until around season 7 and then again from end of season 7 to season 10 finale and then mid season 11 to season 12. Only by season mid season 12 he had enough and realized for the greater good of everyone in the park including himself he ended the conflict and chaos between him and randy and the boys and became their friend in the end.

I adore the construction of this video. Your reverence for the character and Dunsworth shines not only through the quietness of loving non-judgement, but the narrative pacing as you invite us into your many complex thoughts about why he was so compelling. It's one thing to talk about something, but it's another to deeply love and immerse yourself into what that something is. A strength you both seem to share.

The way I found out about this show was back in 2012 when I was watching KZbin videos on my laptop while drinking some of the ol 211. I stumbled upon this unnamed clip of about one minute in length, and what I saw was this old man in shades stumbling while walking along side a classic car, stabilizing himself with one hand, and then with the other he put a bottle of booze to his lips and downed the whole fkn thing in like 10 seconds of painful chugging, and I wincing as he chugged, thinking to myself this was like a real home video and this guy was just killing his insides like a boss. As I mentioned, I had no knowledge of this show, no idea who Jim Leahy was, and this video didn't have a title on it aside from something vague like "Man drinks whole bottle of whiskey" Or something like that. There was no speaking in the video, no music, just the man downing a whole bottle of hard brown party liquor, and while I felt kinda bad for him, I was also thoroughly impressed. Some time goes by and I discover this amazing show and that man wasn't just some old guy drinking a whole bottle of booze right to the head... He was _The Liquor._

One of the most intresting things is that Lahey was so desperate to hide he was gay (And he was really Bi with a male prefrence) Beyond the minor shock of everyone learning it, and one joke from Bubbles the next episode (that even HE says was mean) no one really cared. No one disliked him because he was gay. They disliked him because he was a vindictive drunk.
@phoebe5 Жыл бұрын
This is why I stand by my thought that how crude in appearance the humor in tpb seems, Lahey and randy are actually great representation. They care about each other legitimately and have struggles that don't feel like low blows or cheap humor, and the other characters recognize his orientation but don't constantly use it as the butt of their jokes. For a show that has borderline cartoon characters their relationship felt surprisingly real

As a child this show was a pure comedy for me. Just dumb people doing dumb things. As an adult I see the true tragedy this series really is but the best part about it is the fact the comedy is so good you're loving every second. It's only when you look back without the jokes you see how sad this show actually is. Jim Lahey is the best example of this in the show to me. I've never laughed so hard at a man's life falling apart constantly while also feeling so bad for him. Truly brilliant. TPB is a one of a kind show that thankfully was never mainstream enough for poor imitations to be made of it but popular enough to get over 10 seasons.
