Just letting you know how to get to heaven 🫶🏼 State of Grace= heaven. State of mortal sin= hell. You can look up the difference. Once you commit a mortal sin, turn from it, meaning stop doing it and ask Jesus for forgiveness to enter the state of grace. If you fall back into mortal sin, keep turning away from it and asking for forgiveness, God bless ✝️

I also, like Leo, was a cradle Catholic. I attended Catholic grade school 1st-8th grade. I loved everything about my faith as a Catholic. I left the church at age 24. I became born again in a Protestant church and for the next 20 years learned to study the Bible, grow in my faith and also developed an arrogance on why Catholicism is wrong. At age 45 started going thru a really difficult period at my work. It was so bad that I felt God didn’t care about me. I started questioning my faith. One day I heard the Lord speak to me and tell me to go to Mass that night. I, in my Protestant arrogance, told the Lord that I was too good for the Catholics. I didn’t go and the following Monday I went to my pastor and told him that I felt the Lord was leading me back to the Catholic Church. He began to tell me I was all wrong, that the stress from my job was playing a big part in that - a change to escape my hostile work environment And then he had his associate pastors and the church secretary lay hands on me and pray that my mind would be clear enough to truly hear the Lord and “forget the nonsense and wrong thinking” about returning to the Catholic faith. Well, it worked. God did answer prayers. That following Saturday I heard the Lord speaking to me again and this time I went to Saturday night Mass. I sat in the last pew in the corner and wept and knew this is where I belong. I’m 68 now, have truly studied the faith, have grown in Bible study and devotions and am so thankful that He took me on that long journey to get to where I am now. Our 3 kids who were raised in the Protestant faith still don’t understand why I am Catholic. They stopped going to church. I don’t preach to them but they see me live my faith and I everyday and I share my faith with them when they ask about it. My actions speak volumes and that is how I what I want my witness to be - a sinner saved by Grace, who loves the Lord, and am so blessed by my journey with the Lord.

Hail Mary” and portions of the “Hail, Holy Queen” are blatantly unbiblical. While the first part of the Hail Mary is almost a direct quotation from Luke 1:28, there is no scriptural basis for (1) praying to Mary, (2) addressing her as “holy,” or (3) calling her “our life” and “our hope.” Praying the rosary involves giving attributes to Mary that the Bible never gives her. To call Mary “holy”-the Catholic Church teaches that Mary never sinned or had any taint of original sin-is not biblical. The Bible calls all believers “saints,” which can be interpreted as “holy ones,” but Scripture says that the righteousness believers have is the imputed righteousness from Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).

It seems obvious to me. She gave birth. She is the mother of Jesus.
@Todd_Thinks10 ай бұрын
What should seem obvious to everyone is why Catholics describe Jesus and Mary’s relationship from Mary’s standpoint first, and not from the actual preeminent One, from Jesus standpoint. Is it or is it not true that Jesus created Mary? if Mary is not divine then, obviously, he did create her. Why wouldn’t we speak about Mary as being Jesus creation? Also, the mother father analogy in the human sense falls flat. If we concede that the mother and father are not the source of the child’s soul, then it is technically accurate to say that the mother and father are the source of his body. He tries to make the point that this isn’t true, but it obviously is. So then, what do we mean when we say that a woman is someone’s mother? We are describing the physical, genetic lineage and the accompanying authority that they have over the child as parents. It is not meant to describe the “soul “relationship between the parents and the child. So, in what sense is Mary “the mother of God“? Does she have authority over Jesus the way that the father has authority over Jesus? This is blasphemy, if Jesus is greater than Mary as God, then she is not His mother AS God, but not in the human sense, as she exercised authority over him and the human relationship which is important to define because one of the commandments is to honor your father and your mother, and Jesus would not be exempt from this. I could say more, but I will stop there.
@kyrptonite18259 ай бұрын
Are you the mother of a person or a nature when, you give Birth? If you are the Mother of a Person, then you are therefore mother of a body and soul, since a person is both body and rational soul. To say Mary is the Mother of the Human Side of Jesus only would be to split Jesus into two Persons, one human and one divine, which is a Christological heresy, and is why the term Mother of God was used in the first place. Jesus is however, One Person, who Had Two Natures, Divine, and Human, in One Person. This is called the Hypostatic Union. To get around this you would have to say one of three things: Jesus is two Persons (heresy( Jesus was not God from the beginning, but became God (heresy) You give birth to a nature, not a person Yes, God creates the soul upon conception, while the parents help create the body, but nobody would say that their mom is only the mother of their body, but the mother of them specifically. Plus, it’s not like you are a soul trapped in a body, but the teaching is you literally are your body, that’s why we have the Resurrection of the dead , we, humans, are made to be Body and Soul, not just Soul. Furthermore, no, obviously, Mary did not create God, God always existed, and Created Mary. We are merely saying that since Mary is the Mother of the Person of Jesus Christ, Who is God, then Mary must be the Mother of God. Hope that makes sense.

For when heretics or the adherents of schisms talk about her, not among themselves but with strangers, willy-nilly they call her nothing else but Catholic. Before Jesus ascended into heaven from the Mount of Olive Jesus told His disciples that he was going to give them a comforter to replace Him when He was gone who would tell them everything that Jesus wanted Him to tell them. My Catholic friends, who is that person? Is it Mary or the Holy Spirit? It is the Holy Spirit who came from heaven down to earth into our body not one who came from earth up to heaven as a woman. Mary's bones are still on earth in a grave somewhere here on earth but her spirit is in Hades waiting for her judgment day like the rest of human beings created in God's image. Don't make Mary a goddess or your mother she is only your sister in Christ. She was the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ as fully man only for the purpose of bringing Him into this world, and fully Divine who came from God the Father in heaven down to earth. (Emmanuel God with us). Also, Jesus never said to pray to Mary but only to our Father in heaven. Catholics sure like to twist the scriptures to fit their narrative belief. RCC teaches a different gospel from the Bible or from the apostle Pau teachings therefore your religion is cursed by God. It is a pagan religion that worships statues which makes you idolaters and sinners that will send you to hell. Christianity is not a religion but a relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ.

Mary received God’s grace. Grace is “unmerited favor”; that is, grace is a blessing we receive despite the fact that we do not deserve it. Mary needed grace from God and a Savior, just as the rest of us do. Mary herself understood this fact, as she declared in Luke 1:47, “My spirit rejoices in God my Savior.”
@jovanzpalisbo6624 жыл бұрын
The problem with protestants is they believe in Sola Scriptura alone but remember the Rapture is not named in the Bible only referenced but you deny what is actually written in the Bible about Mary. There are many miracles and mysteries that happened later on revealed only to a select few people like the saints which is not written. You want the King James Version? Luke 1:28 "Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women." This is in the Hail Mary prayer. Angel Gabriel said this. Luke 1:41 "...Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost" God the Holy Spirit filled Elizabeth and made her say: Luke 1:42 "...Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb." Again this is in the Hail Mary prayer, God the Holy Spirit allowed Elizabeth to say this, who are you to deny us to say this? When even God the Holy Spirit made it clear. Luke 1:43 "And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?" Elizabeth recognized Jesus as her Lord but she also gave the utmost respect and honor to Mary referring to her, this is called veneration not worship. Luke 1:48 "...from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." All generations means up to now, the generations did not stop when the books of the Bible are finished and compiled, this is Bible prophecy fulfilled. This generation still calls Mary blessed through the Hail Mary prayer. The 1st miracle in the wedding at Cana, action speaks louder than words. The Lord fulfilled the request of Mary even when it was still not His time, the Bible has many parallels, this is one of them and the Lord did not acquiesce as Protestants claim because there are many instances where the Lord did not act upon. There are many parallels of the "woman" Mary as shown here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYbHipiPrpiBh6M It is only 11 minutes make sure to finish the video. She is the Theotokos, only 1 woman bore the Word made flesh, not any woman can do that role, not your mother not my mother, out of millions and billions in all human history only she is worthy to bear our Lord Jesus Christ. She has no original sin cause it would be impossible for the Lord to be in her womb. The Lord hates sin but loves the sinners. She is the mother of the Word made flesh, after crucifixion when the Lord spoke to them it is not only Jewish tradition but She is our mother! Which makes her the mother of all, she intercedes for us, she points us to her Son, asks us to repent and to change our ways. The parallels of Lucifer and Mary and why you can call on her name during exorcisms: Mary is the humblest while the Devil is the proudest. Mary is the purest while the Devil is the filthiest. Mary is the most obedient while the Devil is the most rebellious. Mary always defeats the Devil because she has no taint of sin (original sin): aleteia.org/2017/07/02/devil-admits-to-exorcist-im-afraid-of-the-madonna/ If you are ever present in an exorcism say her name so the possessed can hear it and watch the reaction. When Mother Mary reveals herself in Garabandal, Lourdes, Fatima, etc. It is always to ask people to repent, change their lives and turn to her Son our Lord Jesus Christ. She is always crying for us, she is still interceding for us! Even in the book "Heaven is for real" the Protestant kid saw Mary kneeling in front of the throne of God. The Warning, the Miracle, Tribulation, 3 days of darkness (after Tribulation) and the Rapture (after the 3 days of darkness), all of which are true and will happen. Especially the Warning when a visible cross can be seen in the sky, it is so close now. You would know later on how Mother Mary loves us so much! Jesus through Mary, God bless.

Theotokos was a known term given to Mary before Council of Ephesus lol , Even Ignatius of Antioch disciple of John in his letter he said Jesus our God born of a virgin in greek "Theos" wasnt this a precursor to Theotokos , he believes Mary is Mother of God Jesus. There are Protestants who presume this or that about Marian devotion while being completely ignorant of Church history and having no primary scholarly proof for their claims which are pure conjectures. Muslims are the same by alleging post-Apostolic Christians corrupted the true gospels and got rid of the original ones to conceal the fact that Jesus never died and had risen from the dead. Nor was he the Godman. Anyway, Marian theology and devotion has its roots in Jesus and ancient Judaism, not in the pagan mystery religions in Rome. This is a faulty correlation. Atheists are no different by comparing Jesus with the pagan deities and demigods like Horus and Mithra.

There's Guadalupe, Lourdes, Fatima, Garabandal, Akita and so many miraculous places and sites. Besides there's that famous old saying: to Jesus thru Mary. That's who got me to love Jesus. Jesus’ Mother and Brothers 46 While Jesus was still talking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him. 47 Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to speak to you.” 48 He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” 49 Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. 50 For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
@alfray1072 Жыл бұрын
Jesus was not denigrating his mother, he was praising her, because Mary was the perfect example of hearing the word of God and keeping it. Jesus even gives His mother an even greater honor in this passage. He is saying My mother doesn’t get a pass because of Me. She isn’t just riding my coat tails into heaven. She is My mother because she freely chose to do the will of the Father. MATTHEW 12 is clear, Jesus will call you brothers and sister in faith if you obey and submit to God's commandments, not biological brothers. She (Mary) did this when she said… Be it done to me according to your word. She did it again when she said… Do whatever He tells you. Jesus would never dishonor His own mother. His mother did the will of the Father in heaven, so was a member of his family. He was teaching the higher meaning of family. “And Mary said: Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it done to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.” (Lk 1:38) “And after the days of her purification, according to the law of Moses, were accomplished, they carried him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord:” (Lk 2:22). “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5)

I think there's a colloquial meaning of "mother of..." meaning source of, and a more technical meaning "mother of..." meaning maternal source of the human body. I appreciate that Tim clarified the concept that a literal mother is not the cause of the whole person. So I guess.. imo if someone says Mary is "mother of God" in the first sense, they would be incorrect. But if someone meant it in the second sense, it would be theologically accurate. I guess perhaps there can be a further public clarification of the term, as it might be the case people are assuming the colloquial meaning (which is a natural starting point)

The Early Church Fathers had no problem referring to Mary as the Mother of GOD. Theodore of Mopsuestia... "When therefore, they ask, 'Is Mary mother of man or mother of GOD?" we answer, 'both' The one by the very nature of what was done and the other by relation".....Cyril of Alexandria...I have been amazed that some are utterly in doubt as to whether or not the holy Virgin is able to be called the mother of GOD. For if our LORD JESUS CHRIST is GOD, how should the holy Virgin who bore him not be the mother of GOD?....Gregory of Nazianz...If anyone does not agree that holy Mary is Mother of GOD, he is at odds with the GODHEAD.

She is not the source of God even if she - by God's will - gave birth to Him. She is the beholder of God not the creator of God. To say the Mary is God (goddess I guess) is heresy also the imaculata conceptione but I digress. She was a special vessel chosen by God, she had the original sin, but the Holy Spirit made her clean to be able to receive Him in her womb. She was, is and ever be Virgin but not God. As Jesus always existed, long before Mary ever existed and Jesus said: before Abraham was, I Am. I’m Protestant for now, considering Eastern Orthodoxy, and have to say, just wow. I now accept Theotokos, perpetual virginity of Mary, but I’m having a hard time accepting the prayers and content of some of those prayers to Mary as one whom we put our hope in, look to for salvation, or having power to deliver us. Can someone help explain how some prayers to the Theotokos isn’t borderline blasphemy?
@joshbhatt1595 Жыл бұрын
I’ll take a shot at defending those prayers. I admit they use strong language that can easily seem quite contrary to worshiping only God, but I believe they do not contradict any doctrine but rather enhance our love for God and His Divine Providence. Since you didn’t specify what specific prayers, I’m going to assume you’re referencing the Hail Mary and the Salve Regina. The first half of the Hail Mary is pure citation of Scripture. The second half asks for Mary’s intercession for us to God. Two reasons intercession must be possible: The Church is One Body, and the gates of hell will never prevail against the Church. Both of those statements are clear in scripture. Most Christians agree we can pray for each other here on earth. Well the gates of hell bring about death. Death cannot prevail against the Church. So if we are all one Body in the Church, I cannot reason that death would break the connection between our prayers and the prayers of the dead who are so close to God they are currently abiding in the Beatific Vision. The Salve Regina is probably the bigger issue. Mary being called the Queen comes from the Jewish background of Jesus’ time. He established a Kingdom, and of course He’s the King. Well Jewish Kingdoms also had a queen, the mother of the king. So Mary has to be the Queen of this Kingdom. She is “our life, our sweetness, and our hope,” because in God’s Divine Providence, He chose her to bring about He who gives us life, sweetness, and hope. God chose Mary to bring Jesus into this world, and Jesus is our salvation. So it follows that we can call Mary our salvation, because in God’s plan, her “fiat” or yes to Jesus brought about our salvation. Whenever we focus on Mary, it’s always to bring us to Jesus. Notice the end of the Salve Regina asks for Mary to reveal Jesus to us. That’s where the emphasis lies. Mary in and of herself is not our life, nor our sweetness, nor our hope. But when we see her, we see those things because she is the Mother of God the Son, Jesus, He who alone gives us those things. I’d recommend Brant Pitre’s “Jesus and the Jewish Roots of Mary.” I pray that Mary wraps you and all of us under her mantle so that we may be as close as possible in this life to Jesus, the One God who is Love Himself and brings us to the Father through the Holy Spirit.

Luke 1:28 “Hail, Full of Grace” in original Greek Translation (does not use the word Mary) Chaire Kecharitomene is the sentence in Greek. It means you who have always been filled with grace and continue to be filled with grace, not just because the Angel visited her and said you will be the Mother of Jesus, but that she was always that way (full of grace) from when she was born. This word Kecharitomene has NEVER been used in Greek literature for anyone other than The Blessed Mother. VENERATION VS. WORSHIP: There is a difference between veneration of Mary and worship of Jesus. This was formalized in writing way back in 757 AD at the Seventh General Council: Latria - adoration that is given to the Trinity alone; occurs 5 times in the Bible but always refers to God (Jn 16:2, Rm:9:4, 12:6, Heb 9:1,6) Hyper-dulia - veneration to Mary (as the mother of God) Dulia - honor paid to saints and angels; occurs 5 times in the Bible (Rm 8:15, 21; Gal 4:24, 5:1; Heb 2:15) There are plenty of Old Testament references that distinguish veneration from worship. "Then Moses went out to meet his father in law, and he bowed down and kissed him.." (Exo 18:7)...(also 1 Chron 29:20, 1 Sam 24:8) Some evangelicals say "consecration" shows that Catholics worship Mary. The word "consecrate" means to entrust. I entrust myself to my closest friends but only one is my Savior.

I’m trying to understand Catholicism as I am growing closer to considering RCIA. I am a Protestant as of now. I can accept almost everything except for the teaching on Mary being sinless. In Luke 1 she prays “my spirit rejoices in God my savior” Why does a sinless person need a savior? Also, Roman’s is clear in teaching that all have fallen short of the glory of God. I can understand her being blessed among women, being the Mother of God, and being a person to hold in deep reverence. Yet, nothing in scripture outlines that she never sinned to me. I’d appreciate understanding this better. The Bible is full of amazing holy saints. People who dedicated their lives to God. People I look up to and would expect any Christian to do the same. But none of them no matter how holy or unique ever merit the title sinless to me.

Think of the timeline: when Mary said that God was her savior, Jesus had not yet died on the cross. So Mary had a Savior before anyone else was redeemed by Christ. She was saved by her Savior before the crucifixion. When did this happen? I think it happened at the moment of her conception as God prepared her to be the human mother of the second person of the Trinity, so that she would never experience the stain of Original Sin. Imagine that you're looking at your cell phone and don't realize you're about to step into an open manhole. I grab your elbow and save you from falling. If I don't, then you'll fall and I'll have to save you by pulling you out of the hole. You see? You can be saved before you fall or after. Since Mary spoke of her Savior before Christ's crucifixion, we know that she was saved before! (Please also see my reply above regarding the cells of Jesus remaining in His mother.)

A lot of "mental gymnastics" here with little to no scripture. Jesus said "before Abraham ever was I Am" (John 8:58). It is clear the "I Am" predated Mary and not the other way around. It is accurate to say she is "the mother of the son of God" or a mother "for" God but not "of" Him, again since He predates her and created her, not the other way around. Also important to note, Jesus marginalized Mary's role as in Matthew 12:48-50 he basically says ANYONE can be his mother (what an honor!) or sister or brother. Only one Father, but many mothers (brothers and sisters)! Simply put (thanks to the indwelling of the Holy Spirit) Jesus has a multitude of "bearers or carriers" (mothers) but only one Father. You could be one too if you allow the will of the Father to live in you and flow through you. Hallelujah!

You can’t give birth to a half of a nature. She gave birth to God and the Bible calls her His mother. You should probably read Luke all the way through again and then read all of the scripture on the arc of the covenant. Just sayin. 😉 the whole Bible is used in context in the Catholic Church. It’s why I had to leave the protest. Then He gave His mother to us (one of the “mothers” you’re talking about), at the cross. He gave her to the beloved disciple. All of us. Jesus is the king there’s too many brides to have a queen just like in the OT, it means His mom is queen, just like in the OT. I pray Holy Spirit gives you eyes to see and ears to hear.

Isaiah’s prophecy was fulfilled at the Annunciation once Mary gave her joyful consent in response to the good news that was brought to her by the angel Gabriel: “Behold, the virgin shall conceive, and bear a son whose name shall be Emmanuel” (7:14). The Hebrew name means “God with us” (cf. Mt 1:23). Mary’s cousin Elizabeth deferentially acknowledged the singular blessing conferred on her kinswoman when she asked her, “Whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord (Κυρίου) should come to me?” (Lk 1:43). The divine name YHWH was increasingly regarded as too sacred to be uttered; it was thus replaced vocally in the synagogue ritual by the Hebrew word Adonai (“My Lord”), which was translated as Kyrios (“Lord”) in the Septuagint, the Greek version of the Hebrew Scriptures. Mary is the Mother of God by having conceived and given birth to Jesus in whom "dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily" (Col 2, 9).

I think that probably the most significant divide between Protestants and Catholics, though, is just what is implied by the phrase 'Mary, mother of God' because nowhere in the Scriptures is that ever once implied. Instead, it reads 'Mary, mother of Jesus'. Now, I might also offer that in the Gospel of John (and it is only mentioned once in the entire Scriptures) it records the following text: 'So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven." They said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he know say, "I have come down from heaven?"' - John 6:41-42 Jesus is referred to as the 'son of Joseph' is he not? I think oftentimes that many Catholics get so enthused and caught up in the Catholic Doctrine of Mariology that they are then quick to discount that both Joseph and Mary were merely the earthly parents of Messiah. Nothing more and nothing less. Because when you begin to attribute what I considered to be IMHO unbiblical doctrines like the Immaculate Conception and the Perpetual Virginity to the mother of Jesus we risk attributing to her such lofty and one could argue 'divine' traits as were otherwise never at all to be attributed to her. Thus, I simply offer the following inquiries to those of the Catholic worldview: 1. Why is it so imperative and necessary that Mary herself would therefore be conceived in her own mother's womb without sin (the doctrine of Immaculate Conception)? Or do you not yet realize that the mother's blood runs alongside the placenta, and the nutrients needed by the baby are absorbed and transferred to the baby? All the baby's blood is contained within the baby and placenta. Therefore, the placenta protects the mother and fetus. The placenta acts as an exchange surface between the mother and the fetus. A membrane separates baby's blood and mother's blood. Nutrients and oxygen are passed over by diffusion only. If the mother's and fetus blood mixed, it could be deadly for both of them. As such, Jesus's blood would have never even mixed or come in contact with Mary's own blood. If Jesus's blood is perfect and untainted by sin then there would be no need for Mary to conceive him in an 'immaculate' state. And if Jesus also touched and healed lepers then clearly merely touching her earthly son would also not pollute his divine nature and being, either. 2. Why is it equally so imperative and necessary that Mary herself would therefore need to remain a virgin for the rest of her life? Why would God allow the marriage to remain intact while simultaneously forbidding Joseph from executing his duty as a husband to his wife and vice versa? This doctrine probably bothers me the most because it is almost as if it was considered to be wholly anathema to the Catholic Church for even the mere thought of Mary and Joseph having sex together to ever enter in the minds of Christian men and women. Yet, to sentence Joseph and Mary, husband and wife, one flesh, to a lifetime of perpetual celibacy while still living under the same roof--- to go about their daily lives as husband and wife doing everything but showing any type of affection for each other--- that seems to defy both logic and good common sense, yes. Does this mean that God no longer allowed them to hug... to kiss... to even sleep in the same bed??? Did they therefore sleep in separate beds in the same room, perhaps, not even in the same room? Did they have to undress and bathe in separate rooms, as well? Perhaps, Joseph silently divorced Mary, instead? Look, could any husband or wife reading this truly, truly live such a life as 'husband and wife' while being consequently forbidden to be "naked and unafraid" in each other's presence? What then would be the purpose of their marriage and the marriage of Joseph and Mary??? Celibacy is one thing in and of itself, yes, but to expect, nay, command that a husband and wife commit to a lifetime of refrainment from any type of physical affection towards one another, how is that even normal? How can that even be considered 'marriage'? That to me is just far, far too much legalism and worse yet--- an unhealthy aversion towards an otherwise natural, beautiful, and God-bestowed gift of sexual intimacy between man and woman, husband and wife. And that's just two of the four doctrines of Mariology that will continue to keep me from ever fully embracing the Catholic Church as a personal preference of location to attend any kind of formal religious service, yes.

I'm not sure if you'll find this helpful but I felt I should respond. I'm a protestant and calling Mary the "mother of God" does not mean we should therefore pray to her. I'm not entirely sure what the argument of this video is, but giving her the title "mother of God," does not mean she intercedes for us in heaven, nor that she is to be treated as our mother. She is blessed among women, and she is the mother of my Lord, but only Christ can save us. Only His work on the cross is sufficient. Pray to the Father, by the Spirit, in the name of Christ. I was told when my daughter a twin was stillborn while her brother survived by a Monsignor who came into my hospital room that my daughter would never see Jesus because she was not baptized. She was an innocent infant condemned to Limbo. It was over 40 years later that I have learned that the Limbo, especially since Pope Benedict, was not true, however this was not the only time that Monsignor and his priest in our local church were very rude toward me. Then there were other priests who would not answer my questions putting me down in a chauvinist manner for being female, saying things such as "just wait for heaven and then you will understand". That attitude was hardly Christian. Some nuns mean to my little children were the final straw and I left the church raising my children in various other churches depending upon where we lived.

1. I have never heard any Protestant/Christian deny Mary is the mother of Jesus. This whole discussion is based on an argument that Protestants don't believe that, and that's not even a thing. Ofcourse we do, we just don't glorify Mary because we believe all the glory, worship and prayer is due ONLY to God. A request He Himself made to us through the Word. 2. Even if this issue was real among Protestants: Sorry, I am now even more convinced of the idolatry practiced in Catholicism with this video. Mary is blessed among women. Mary is the mother of Jesus, and that has to be respected. I agree. But praying to her is unbiblical. And when I say unbiblical, I mean anti- biblical, against what the Bible teaches. Worshiping/praying to/glorifying anyone other than God (the Trinity) is unbiblical. Doing and teaching these things is straight up going against the Word of God. Protestants disagree with Catholics for a whole lot of reasons. The worship and praying to the dead saints including Mary, is just one of them. The theology of the Gospel is wrong, when works you do here on earth dictate the status of your salvation. The images that aren't just made, but built into statues and Catholics bown down before them and often also build altars of candles around them. Yikes!The existance of the Pope, the existance of purgatory. The meaning of baptism... It's not that Protestants don't have church traditions. It's just that we strongly believe no tradition in the church can be AGAINST the Word of God. And because the Catholic church has and does MANY traditions that are not in line with the Word of God, that is the reason most Protestants stay away from Catholic churches. Out if respect to and fear of our holy God. One day we will all stand before God and will have to give an account of our actions, words and thoughts. I ask you this, will you be able to tell Him that you deliberately chose to ignore His commandments and teachings in the Word for the sake of the teachings of some man made king dressed up in white (the Pope)? Will you be able to play this video and say these arguments straight to His face? Will you be able to justify your actions of worshiping, kneeling down and praying to/before statues of other beings in creation? Will you be able to justify praying to dead humans? Are you able to say this straight to Jesus' face, God, the person who died for you in one of the most painful and horrible ways possible? I know I will have to rely on what His Word thought me. And I am sure I will be wrong on allot of things, flawed as I am. But I will rely on His mercy, His grace for my salvation and place in His Kingdom. Not my 'good deeds' and or practice of man made traditions that go against His Word. Can you Imagine standing before Jesus saying: "Well Mary carried you for nine months, birth you and raised you into this world. You are God, therefore she is the Mother of God, Mother of you. Therefore I pray to her" *finger snaps*. Good luck with that.

Im not a Catholic, but I can tell you, as a fair-minded person, you misunderstand virtually every point of catholic doctrine you speak of here. Im not being mean, Im just saying, to properly critique someone's belief, you have to properly understand it. For example, asking for the intercession of Mary is not based on her being Mother of God. It is based on the doctrine of Communion of the Saints, the belief that all believers, living and deceased, are united and alive in Christ. This is a very ancient belief, it is even in the Apostles Creed. Scripturally, its evidenced by the fact that Jesus said that those who believe in him have "eternal life", and that "though they die, they will live" and "God is God of the living, not the dead." Several other verses too. If those who pass in Christ are alive, and we are "surrounded by a cloud of witnesses" who want to see us succeed as our brothers and sisters in Christ, Catholics ask them to pray for them just as you would ask a faithful brother at church to pray for you. When considering who one should ask for prayer, Mary is top of the list. As the mother of Christ, she is was particularly close to Jesus, and her intercession is greatly desired. So if you want to defeat the idea of intercession of Mary, you need to defeat the doctrine of communion of the saints, which has a strong scriptural basis and long history in the church. That is why, as far as the span of church history is concerned, the protestant perspective is both novel and innovative as a doctrine. And to be clear, they are not "praying to" the saints, they are asking for the saint's prayers to God on their behalf. Only God answers prayers for Catholics. Again, Im not a catholic, I just want you to be fair in your critique.

Wrong, Jesus means GOD SAVES in Hebrew. Mary is the MOTHER of the LORD (LUKE 1:43), therefore Mary is the Mother of the LORD GOD. Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant, the Gebirah-Queen Mother, Woman of Revelation and the Daughter of Zion that is why we pray for her intercession and protection because she leads you to the real Jesus of the Trinity not false protestant zi0nist jesus. Our Lady of Guadalupe converted and baptized the new world because Mary is the most powerful intercessor among the saints. 2ND Intercessory prayers are instructed by St. Paul in 1 TIMOTHY 2:1. SUPPLICATION (DEFINITION) - The action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly. EPHESIANS 6:18 Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. Saints and angels in heaven interceding for us in REVELATION 4, 5, 6, 8. "Mediator" is Christ alone in one sense. As intercessors all members are " mediators". according to Catholicism and Scripture: 1- The Church is the body of Christ 2- There is only one body of Christ, not one on earth and another one in heaven. 3- Death does not separate the members of the body. 4- Christians are bound by the Law of Christ to love and pray for one another.

My concern with calling Mary the mother of God is what it potentially could imply without ample explanation. In the sense that she gave birth to Jesus who is God, yes, absolutely. However, what is massively important for us to communicate is that her existence was preceded by Christ's and that as she was giving birth to Him, her existence, like everything, was being held together by her holy Son. So my concern is not in the doctrine rightly explained, but in the doctrine easily misunderstood. And this misunderstanding is easily avoided by saying that she was Jesus' earthly mother. So that is how I refer to her.

But ignore other things. Why would people want to believe in a non apostolic line theology when these kind of things were well discussed during early church days dating back to 300-400 AD. Its just that people these days want answers that can please them even if its okay to dilute the authenticity of the religion.

As a protestant I don’t have an issue with his logic. But just as father Packwood clarified on the issue of the Trinity, I think it’s important to clarify that the doctrine is that she is mother of the second person of the Godhead. The way we use the word God, it is easy to develop a misunderstanding of what is meant by the title mother of God.

In ordinary language we mean ‘the Father’ when we say “God”; not the Trinity, not the Son, even as we do not deny divinity to either. This has caused many to hear the term “Mother of God” as one intending to fête her as the Mother of the Trinity. In addition, it has been wrongly thought that this title is the product of overzealousness, meant to raise Mary to a status superior to God. In fact, the title was not applied to elevate Mary, but to protect the Homoousion dogma that insists that our Lord is the same in essence, in being with God the Father. Saint Athanasius is recalled as an assiduous defender of the full divinity and full humanity of Christ in His hypostatic union. In addition to the Arian heresy, which denied that Jesus is equal with the Father, there were some fourteen more heresies disputing the Church’s insistence that in Christ one person subsists in two natures, the Divine and the human-some claiming he was all-God and others that he was totally human, and all shades in between. Athanasius employed the term Mother of God to show that Mary was not only mother of the Man but of the entire Man, God included.

Tobit 12:16 Tobiah and Tobit fall to the ground before Raphael. Matthew 18:10 The angels in Heaven are always before the face of God. We venerate angels because of their great dignity, which comes from their union with God. Saints are also in united with God. Veneration nor honor is worship. Catholics worship [God|Jesus] alone. Hebrews 13:7 Remember your leaders, who preached the word of God to you, and as you reflect on the outcome of their lives, take their faith as your model.1 Thessalonians 1:5-8 You become an example to all believers. This is what Saints are for Catholics and all mankind: Examples of holiness to live by 1 John 3:2 We shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. John 15 - “I am the vine, and you are the branches.” St. Paul - We are the “body of Christ.” It doesn’t make sense that death would rupture this bond. Hebrews 12:1 - The saints are a “cloud of witnesses” Intercession for Others Isn’t Optional for Christians Love of God and love of neighbor go hand in hand. The saints are our neighbors and our brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ. When we grow in fellowship with our fellow Christians, we grow in fellowship with Christ. What Tim Staples leaves out is that Jesus is referred to the 2nd Adam and the son of man, that is who Mary gave birth to, basically the Flesh, man is Flesh. Jesus as the Son of God always existed before time and creation, Jesus is God. Mary a person can say when she gave birth to Jesus the Son of God, just "CLOTHED" Jesus in human Flesh. Jesus as the Son of God and is God just used Mary as a portal to come into the world and "CLOTHED" in human Flesh. To call Mary the mother of God is Aposotasy and Heretical.....The RCC should just call Mary the "mother of the 2nd Adam" (Human Flesh Chlothing), or even call Mary the "mother of the son of man". Mary just Clothed God with Flesh is all it is. Jesus is also called the "Last Adam", for the Last Adam to come into the world has to be through natural child birth. Mary like all humans are from the First Adam and like the first Adam........ all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God, Even Mary would be of sin, who contrbuted the Fleshly clothing for Jesus who is God. The Apostle Paul tells us in his first letter to the church in Corinth, “The first man Adam became a living being; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:45-49). Paul is here pointing out the difference between two kinds of bodies, i.e., the natural and the spiritual. Genesis 2:7 speaks of the first man, Adam, becoming a living person. Adam was made from the dust of the ground and given the breath of life from God. Every human being since that time shares the same characteristics. However, the last Adam or the “second Adam”-that is, Christ-is a life-giving Spirit. Just as Adam was the first of the human race, so Christ is the first of those who will be raised from the dead to eternal life. Because Christ rose from the dead, He is “a life-giving spirit” who entered into a new form of existence. He is the source of the spiritual life that will result in believers' resurrection. Christ’s new glorified human body now suits His new, glorified, spiritual life-just as Adam’s human body was suitable to his natural life. When believers are resurrected, God will give them transformed, eternal bodies suited to eternal life. Paul tells us in verse 46 that the natural came first and after that the spiritual. People have natural life first; that is, they are born into this earth and live here. Only from there do they then obtain spiritual life. Paul is telling us that the natural man, Adam, came first on this earth and was made from the dust of the earth. While it is true that Christ has existed from eternity past, He is here called the second man or second Adam because He came from heaven to earth many years after Adam. Christ came as a human baby with a body like all other humans, but He did not originate from the dust of the earth as had Adam. He “came from heaven.” Then Paul goes on: “As was the earthly man [Adam], so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven [Christ], so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven” (1 Corinthians 15:48-49). Because all humanity is bound up with Adam, so every human being has an earthly body just like Adam’s. Earthly bodies are fitted for life on this earth, yet they are limited by death, disease, and weakness because of sin which we’ve seen was first brought into the world by Adam. However, the good news is that believers can know with certainty that their heavenly bodies will be just like Christ’s-imperishable, eternal, glorious, and filled with power. At this time, all are like Adam; one day, all believers will be like Christ (Philippians 3:21). The Apostle John wrote to the believers, “Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is” (1 John 3:2).

Thought about Mary.... Did God expect too much from Eve? She was merely human and tempted by a superior being (fallen angel). Through her disobedience, all of mankind was condemned. But Mary, who will crush the serpent's head, shows that a mere human can overcome that superior being. Through her obedience, Our savior is born.

In Exodus 19:12, God told Moss to put a boundary around Mt. Sinai to prevent his people from touching it, while he was on top, giving the 10 commandments to Moses because their mere touch would be unholy. Would God have allowed His only begotten son to be born inside Mary's body unless she were extremely holy and special among all humans, a place inside her visited by the Holy Spirit?

Even this year, I have pointed this out to many evangelicals, and many have said, point blank, that Elizabeth was still wrong. Jesus has given us his Blessed Mother as our great Spiritual Mother (Rev.12:17), a Heavenly Advocate who intercedes for us. At the foot of the Cross. @barelyillegal2866 The Woman gives birth to a male child who is to rule the nations with a rod of iron. That’s a reference to the Messianic prophecy in Psalm 2, where we read: Ask of Me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron [Psalm 2:8-9]. Jesus fulfilled this Messianic prophecy. The fact that the male child is caught up to the throne of God is a reference to Jesus’s Ascension into heaven, so we have another confirmation that the male child is Jesus. And since the Woman who gives birth to Him is His Mother, we could infer that the Woman here is Jesus’s Mother, the Virgin Mary.

First, as an evangelical, let me say "I Love my Catholic Brothers and Sisters!!!". Truly do. What I still haven't gotten a sufficient answer to, regarding Mary, is why would there be specific mention AND instruction regarding the Eucharist ("take and eat" "do this in remembrance of me") , as well as Baptism (Go and baptize and make disciples of all nations") and yet there is literally not one word on, nor any mention or instruction on any spiritual actions regarding Mary. There isn't one single word from Jesus, any of the 12 Disciples, Mark, Luke, Timothy, Jude, James, or Paul that mentions Mary and instructions on honoring her, praying to her, etc. None. Literally. I find it inconceivable that you would have mention and instruction by numerous Biblical sources on Communion and Baptism, yet something as important (to Catholics) as Mary is literally has not one single word about her, the importance of her, that you should have a relationship with her, or that she was even important in any way for the early church. Zero mention. Not a single word in the Bible from Jesus, any of the12 Disciples, Mark, Luke, Timothy, Jude, James or Paul about Mary and any of the practices concerning Mary that the Catholic church hold today. Just read that last sentence out loud and truly think about why that is. Every single other important practice that a Christian holds dear is mentioned by either Jesus, the 12, Mark, Luke, Timothy, Jude, James or Paul. The Eucharist, Baptism, instructions on Prayer, instructions to meet, evangelism, giving, serving the poor, etc are all found in the Bible....yet NOT ONE SINGLE WORD on instructions about Mary or even a mention of her outside of interactions Christ had with her. How does one reconcile that without just admitting that what they believe about Mary is simply accepting, and accepting blindly, the teaching regarding praying to Mary and her role in heaven or redemption?

We love you too, What precisely does Mary give to Jesus in her act of motherhood? First of all, Mary did not give Jesus his divine nature, nor did Mary give Jesus his divine personhood. Both of these divine aspects of Jesus Christ existed from all eternity. However, “when in the fullness of time, God sent his Son, born of a woman” (Gal 4:4), Mary gave to Jesus a human nature identical to her own.

Now, Mary is a creature. She is not God. Therefore, true devotion to Mary does not involve giving her adoration. Then what kind of honor and devotion should be given to Mary? Some may say, “None! Only God should be honored!” But they’re wrong. God himself commands us to honor our parents, and it’s a good thing to recognize and esteem those who demonstrate a particular excellence, such as courage or valor on the battlefield or extraordinary holiness of life. The kind of recognition or esteem that is given to creatures is called veneration, or in the classical language of theology, dulia. Of course, we shouldn’t adore our parents, heroic soldiers, or saints, but we should esteem and respect them, showing them some degree of veneration (dulia).

@@rooforlife First I would lovingly ask my Catholic Brothers and Sisters "Have you read the Bible? Like actually read it and searched out what it says?" Have you read it cover to cover? I have read the OT 4 times through. I have read the NT 5 times through. It absolutely IS NOT in the Bible. There isn't one single line of instruction from Jesus, The 12 Disciples, Luke, Mark, James, Jude or Paul that mentions any Instruction or practice regarding Mary. No line from Paul encouraging the early church to remember the "Queen Mother" or to have a relationship with her. There is nothing, that teaches or even mentions most of the "Doctrine of Mary" that the Catholic church does today. Now contrast that with the Eucharist. You literally have multiple direct mentions in the Bible, most importantly God Himself, say here is what the Eucharist is. Go and do this in remembrance of me. With Baptism, you have God Himself get baptized and instruct his disciples to go and make disciples and baptize them. After listening to the apologetics of Mary from the Bible it is incredibly weak. All I have heard is taking random verses that clearly are not specific or instructional and then reverse engineering the doctrines one believes about Mary. For instance, to take Gen 3:15 and infer what Catholics believe about Mary because it says there will be "Enmity" between you and the woman" is a massive stretch. You don't build a doctrine on a single line of scripture as vague as that. Furthermore, I have also heard Catholics mention Christ's words to Mary at the wedding in Cana referring to Mary as "woman" meaning that is proof that Christ is saying Mary is "THE Woman". Again massive massive leap. Calling Mary the second Ark (which I believe) is also misconstrued. What was the Ark, but a place where God's presence dwelt and where the 10 commandments (the Law), Arron's staff (priesthood), and Manna (eucharist) dwelt. Jews honored the Ark because but didn't pray to it or seek a relationship with it. Also, the reference to Mary in the book of Revelation. For sure it is her, but one cannot say "this is exactly what this verse means" in regards to Mary and her role.
@brianmccaffrey12914 жыл бұрын
@@rooforlife I would Lovingly encourage you to be as neutral of a 3rd party as you can be and actually read the OT and NT cover to cover and see where any doctrine or direct teaching about Mary exists. Don't read into verses....just simply where does it say exactly who Mary is and how one should interact with her. You will find direct instruction on virtually every single Christian doctrine, but not on Mary. Also, to clarify, here is what I absolutely DO believe about Mary. I believe we evangelicals have completely ignored her. I believe we have thought too little about her. I believe she is most Blessed of women (how could she not when she bore God in her womb). I believe she is the "Mother of God" by sheer logic. I believe she could have been assumed (there is Biblical precedent for such an act with Enoch and Elijah). I don't think that she was perpetually a virgin (although not willing to die on that hill). She could have been though. What I find completely outside of not just Scripture but the Biblical framework of Judaism and Christianity entirely is the thought that anyone could be sinless or that anyone should pray to or have a relationship with anyone other than God Himself. Zero reference to that possibility anywhere in the Bible (other than the Son of God himself). Completely outside of Jewish or Biblical thought.

Knowing that God is eternal, which both Catholics and Protestants agree to; one cannot listen to one side and claim to understand the hullabaloo about the title Mother of God. The immediate thought that comes to our minds is that God is eternal, we cannot claim to understand how God entered into His creation by means of young virgin, but He did. The issue is not that what Mary gave birth to was God who became flesh. The question is whether the term Mother of God is used collectly or misused. Qoute (from Evangelical Apologists): >>The Creed of Chalcedon, A.D. 451, includes the Greek term ‘theotokos’ to define the identity of Christ. ‘Theotokos’ literally means ‘God-bearer’, which is loosely translated into Latin ‘Mater Dei’ - Mother of God. The term was used to underline the fact that the child born of Mary was truly God, and thus to guard against the error that Christ was two persons in one body, rather than one person. This heresy, ‘Nestorianism’, was condemned at the First Council of Ephesus in A.D. 431. The Creed states, in part, that Christ was “begotten before all ages of the Father according to the Godhead, and in these latter days, for us and for our salvation, born of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of God, according to the Manhood.” The creed does not teach that Mary is the mother of Christ’s divine nature. As God, Christ has no beginning and no mother. Indeed, the creed explicitly says that he was begotten ‘before all ages’. Moreover, the creed qualifies the meaning of ‘theotokos’ by the phrase ‘according to the Manhood’, or, in another translation, ‘born of Mary the virgin, who is God-bearer in respect of his humanness’. It is only Christ’s human nature that is ascribed to Mary, from whom he was descended and born. Thankfully Catholics and Evangelicals are united on the doctrine of Christ. We believe that our Lord is a unique Person. He is eternally God; he also became a man. Yet Christ is not two persons, nor is he divided, but he is one Person with two distinct natures, divine and human. Thus it is equally correct to call him both ‘God’ and ‘man’, and for this reason, we do not hesitate to call his mother, the Mother of God. Sadly some have misused this title to attribute to Mary a role which the Lord never intended. Some Catholics think that Mary has a maternal authority over her Son, and therefore some ask Mary to plead on their behalf with her Son because they are convinced that he will never disobey his mother’s commands. Amazingly, in his days of humiliation, the Son of God did not only become a babe, but as a child, he submitted himself to the authority of his creatures - his putative father, Joseph, and his mother, Mary. Of course, he is no longer under such parental authority. Even during his earthly public ministry, he was led solely by the Holy Spirit to do the Father’s will. Following the resurrection and ascension, Christ is now seated at the right hand of Majesty, and he has all power over his church and all creation. Mary does not have authority over Jesus; on the contrary, Jesus is Mary’s Lord and Saviour. Let us, therefore, keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. Let us remember that for our salvation he was born of the blessed virgin mother, and was made human like us, so that he could be nailed to a cross to shed his innocent blood for our redemption. Let us also remember that the man Christ Jesus is none other than the eternal Son of God. He is not inattentive to the cries of his people, nor is he reluctant to save to the uttermost those who come to the Father through him. Let us confidently come to Christ. We ought to trust him with our souls and worship him as our God. * * * PS I received replies from several Catholic readers of the Gospel e-Letter saying that I misrepresented the Catholic teaching on Mary when I wrote, 'Mary has a maternal authority over her Son, and therefore some ask Mary to plead on their behalf with her Son because they are convinced that he will never disobey his mother’s commands.' I refer you to the popular devotion, The Glories of Mary, by St Alphonsus Liguori, to show that this is what some Catholics really believe. Excerpts: - Moreover, once Jesus Christ has deigned to make her His Mother, He was then obliged to obey her because He was her Son. - At the command of Mary, all obey, even God … God grants the prayers of Mary as if they were commands. - We are all under obligation to God for whatever we have, because everything is but a gift from Him, but by taking flesh from Mary and becoming Man, God was put to put Himself under obligation to her. - Although Mary obtains favours by asking, yet she asks with a certain maternal authority, and therefore we ought to feel confident that she obtains all she desires and asks for us. - The prayers of the Blessed Virgin, being the prayers of a Mother, have in them something of a command; so that it is impossible that she should not obtain what she asks - As thou hast, O Mary, the authority of a Mother with God, thou obtainest pardon for the most enormous sinners; since that Lord in all things acknowledges thee as his true and spotless Mother, he cannot do otherwise than grant what thou askest - Thou, O Mary, being Mother of the most high God, canst save all by thy prayers, which are increased in value by the maternal authority. This teaching is erroneous, and I hope that you reject it. On the contrary, I trust that like Mary, you submit yourself to the authority and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and life.

Your comment is for the most part very well written. I only want to point out to you the Wedding at Cana, when Mary intercedes with Jesus on behalf of the bride and groom. Jesus, appearing to be reluctant, nevertheless complies with her request. This is an example of what Mary continues to do on behalf of those who ask for her intercession, and Jesus listens to her. There is also the finding of Jesus in the Temple, when Jesus went home with His Mother and Foster Father and was obedient to them. Consider the commandment “Honor thy father and thy mother.” In Judaism, obedience to parents is an important aspect of honoring them. Jesus fulfilled the Law perfectly. He treats His Mother with reverence even in Eternity. You may not want to believe this, but if you consider the Mind of Christ, you will understand. Philippians 2: “Have this mind in you which was in Christ Jesus….” going on to say “He emptied Himself,” meaning He was humble, and “obedient unto death.” The Mind of Christ would not be haughty or jealous of our requests to His Mother and to the Saints for their intercession. You are projecting your own lack of humility and obedience onto Jesus, who although He is Almighty God reigning in glory, still treats His Mother with the utmost respect and love.

@@MarilynBoussaid-yd1vk It seems "my comment is just well written" but you did not hear what it says in its fullness otherwise you would not comment saying the exact opposite. You write, for example "He[Jesus ] treats His mother with reverence even in eternity..." This the great example why I find it difficult to understand these type of arguments. Tell me, who is Jesus to you? Is He the one in John 10 who is a good Shepherd or is that role belongs to Mary? Did Jesus indicate anywhere that He will shepherd us along side Mary? You interpretation of Philippians 2 is the most grievous, it has nothing to do with Mary and an example of Mariology approach to God's Word, seeing Mary in every sentence. The Jesus I know is capable of folding this world like a garment. The Jesus I know in His glory cannot be looked upon with naked eye, you will die immediately. The Jesus I know destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah in minute. Think about it, when He decided to enter into His own creation, He had to put aside His glory by His own will. That is what Philippians 2 is all about.

The virgin Mary, by God’s grace, recognized that she needed the Savior. The Bible never says that Mary was anyone but an ordinary human whom God chose to use in an extraordinary way. Yes, Mary was a righteous woman and favored (graced) by God (Luke 1:27-28). At the same time, Mary was a sinful human being who needed Jesus Christ as her Savior, just like everyone else (Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23; 6:23; 1 John 1:8).

"Okay I'll pay you later". Got me laughing sooo hard. I am a protestant on my conversion to catholism. I am currently reading "Any Friend of God's is a Friend of Mine". "Behold Your Mother", is my next book

I may have dropped in on the wrong segment. I'm a Presbyterian, but so far, so good. Mary is the mother of God. I'm guessing that this was a first step for the guest on his way to accepting a Catholic view of Mary?

When I first began my Catholic journey, my sponsor (who wasn’t yet my sponsor at that time) was feeding me apologetic materials from Dr. Scott Hahn, Fr. Larry Richards and our esteemed Mr. Staples. He even attended a Protestant-vs.-Catholic debate featuring Mr. Staples, and ended up pinch-hitting after it was determined that Mr. Staples wouldn’t make it.
