The Moment Tokwe Runs After the Wild Elephants & the Herd Follow After Her!

All for one and one for all! That’s what this video shows… except for a few bulls taking the day off from guard duty. Tokwe rumbles and runs off after the wild elephants to chase them away from her herd, since the two separate herds do not generally get on. Her friend Lundi runs after her and is second in the chase, but soon most of the elephants gather and run after the matriarch, Tokwe and her closest ally, Lundi. Only bulls, Sebakwe, Jabulani and Fishan hang back by the water. The other elephants give up the chase soon and return to look after the smallest in the herd, Khanyisa who has run off to the dam, with her ears out in alarm over the heightened situation. Khanyisa soon finds solace in the sand again, lying on the ground with Kumbura and Klaserie watching over her.

This video was full of interesting dynamics within herd. Despite what Mambo believes about himself I believe his elders don’t consider him to be adult enough to accompany the adults during their fact finding mission. I loved once again seeing Kumbura’s strong feelings of protectiveness over Khanyisa and Timisa. She was standing directly over napping Khanyisa and Timi was right there. Once the alert sounded she and the babies moved their positions just enough to be able to peer ahead to ascertain what was happening. When Adine whistled for Khanyisa and she began running towards Adine, Kumbura immediately turned herself around and quickly came alongside Khanyisa. And there she stayed, again over Khanyisa almost touching. Others came along to help with the babies, like Klaseri but not with the same intensity of emotion that Kumbura has. Another example of what makes Kumbura my favorite member of the herd ! It’s hard to choose just one as a favorite, they each have so many reasons to adore any one of them, but if forced to pick one over the other, for me it’s Kumbura!

Whenever Khanyisa lies down all by herself, sweet and beautiful Timisa💞 is never far behind and always trying to get her to sit up by those subtle little foot kicks. And Kumbura was on the same frequency today. If several do it, it's a different story. It amazes me. And Lundi, what a faithful friend to Tokwe she is. Theirs is a real time-tested friendship. Nice to see Mambo with the girls behaving himself. Khanyisa got a little fright today but once she saw Adine, all was well. She's lucky. She's got a whole HERD and her human mom and Carers!

❤🐘Timisa has such a wide trunk, I just love it and so badly want to pet & tap her. Khanyisa trunk looks similar to Timisa's and she grows. Just when I thought she looked bigger than ever, when she ran to the water she favored that baby elephant still. They are so remarkable & mesmerizing in the way they protect, in their social & familial structure. It's always a great video when we get to hear the awesome trumpeting herd! The sleeping dart and the whole situation when Mambo was out living his best life with his own harem, then got darted and passed out with all his adoring fans fluttering their ears and lashes over him then when he next opened his eyes his mother and all his Aunties and Uncles were gathered around him fussing at him for having run away and eluding capture. It was too funny hearing one of the carers (maybe Tigere?) tell the story and laughing about what a shock it must have been for teenaged Mambo to be out partying one second and the next second he is back with his anxious concerned family smothering him! 🐘🎉🤣🤪🐘😢😢!

Óla 👋 Kombura is exceptional she took Khanyisa under her protection 24/7 she is really on a mission to protect and take care of this adorable little one, she’s always touching her, checking her to know if everything is ok with her, always looking around to prevent if a danger may arrive… she really is Khanyisa’s personal bodyguard. If you are looking for Khanyisa and the vegetation is a little high you just have to spot Kombura, an amazing unwavering dedication. Khanyisa has grown well but Kombura is still trying to put her head above her it is clearly an instinctive gesture of protection because Khanyisa is too big but nevertheless as soon as she lies down or lowers Kombura puts herself above or against her in protection… it’s really incredible how Kombura cares and protects Khanyisa as « her » baby, definitely Kombura made the choice to be the guardian angel of Khanyisa with a real unconditional love. She who was thought too young to have a maternal instinct when Khanyisa was introduced into the herd… 💖💗💕

I think I have noticed in times past that often the bulls mostly stay behind to protect the younger members of the herd while the Matriarch and her deputies investigate and threaten. I’m not sure what would happen if ever the matriarch and/or deputies would to become physical with an enemy. Would all but the babies come to her aide and protection Or would the🐘bulls continue their protective stances near the youngest? Anyone know the answer.

I was quite pleased that Tokwe went after the wild herd of elephants with absolute no fear. She was definitely protecting her babies and I also loved the Bulls when they knew to stay behind and protect sweet Khanysia and Timisa too.❤️🥰👏🏻👏🏻🐘🐘🐘I was curious to know when Adine whistled for Khanysia to to go to her that Khanysia had gone running in another direction? Was she scared and confused? But I was happy that her elders and Adine all made sure she was fine and helped her to realize she was safe too. What happened between your and the wild herd of elephants?

1) Was the wild herd the same herd featured in the previous video? ie a Matriarch, adult daughter and several young calves? If so, hardly a threat. 2) Why was the wild herd unwelcome to share the water, when we know herds often meet at water points as a social ritual? After all, your reserve is not starved of water and the youngest Jabulani calf now weighs over a ton - and seems pretty laid back and lazy with it. 3) Why in your opinion did the bulls hold back? 4) Why were Tokwe and Lundi so keen to chase off the wild herd? Were they worried the wild herd contained females in oestrus who might attract Mambo (doubtful)? Or has the wild herd attacked the Jabulani herd in the past? Or what? 5) Why did Mambo retreat to the dam and not try to meet the wild herd? Are you double-dosing him with contraception? 6) Why were the Carers sprinting as if their lives depended on it? Had they let their guard down and were having a quiet smoke, when they should have been between Tokwe and the wild herd?
